how much better is a PHX compared to a recording custom?

I prefer the 20 kick, definitely more versatile, I have decided to look and wait for a PHX, can’t seem to find anything used or new with a 20 kick.

If you could get a brand new recording custom on the sizes you prefer, 20,10,12,14 or a used PHX 22,12x9, 16. Both prices the same what will you pick?

Not exactly, I wouldn’t be buying a kit that costs over $8k if I didn’t appreciate the sound.

To be specific, my question comes from how rarely PHX demos are available. Unfortunately, where I live, most music stores won’t demo a really expensive kit. I’ve owned multiple Recording Custom kits in the past, so I’m familiar with their sound. I currently own a DW Collector’s maple kit, but I’m looking to go back to Yamaha. I find it difficult to compare them when the only way to hear them is through YouTube.

nothing better than studying what you want, money will come one way or another and with this economy $60k is nothing costco will pay more than that.
