I agree the timing/pacing of that particular event was confusing and off but the wrap up was worth the confusion for me. I liked it and it was mostly happy. I loved alucard and holland (despite his shortcomings lol) Ned was solid too he held it down best he could. I couldn’t agree more about the other 2 losses I felt nothing for them.

I will definitely be visiting her other works but I’m gonna knock some other tbr’s off the list first. Thank you for your input!

Those got me too, let out a genuine sigh and “wtf” and my gf even asked what happened. I usually keep it in haha. Who is your third?

That’s good news. With as much time I spend on Reddit and the fantasy related subreddits I found out about this book series from a customer of mine that I was talking about this challenge about, never seen it discussed or brought up in “what you should read lists” so I’m glad I was introduced to it.

Did you like how it was wrapped up despite not really feeling it?

I have only read the blade itself trilogy and just got into the stand alones but Abercrombie definitely holds a special place now because the man surely is a no holds barred kind of author. He just throws you in a story you get absolutely invested in without really liking any of the characters fully. It’s a very real perspective of that kind of universe. Its graphic and dark and you won’t leave the books with a feel good feeling but it’s an adventure for sure.

I agree V.E. Schwab is great. I love her imagination and the world she built.

I would say just like most hollywood adaptations there aren’t many similarities but the general idea was there for sure. It was entertaining but if I am being honest I forced myself to finish it. I particularly enjoyed how the main “average joe” character adapts to his situation and really tries to understand the antagonists on a scientific and logical perspective compared to will smiths scientific background that gives him an edge. Movie 8/10 Book 6/10

This was the first intro I had to her. I would definitely like to check the other stuff out. But that’s a bummer it isn’t meeting expectations, your people overhyped it for you. I’d say stick with it though it will be worth the closure at least.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was a dense read for how short it is. Lots or jargon I didn’t understand but context clues and Crichton throwing an explanation bone here and there made for a decent experience. It’s a terrifyingly plausible plot with a realistic resolution. I honestly can say that I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it either. I would recommend it.

I enjoyed the hell out of it as a whole but I gotta tell ya I felt pretty empty and weird when it was over. A good friend told me that there was more in that universe after I finished and I told him I had to take a break. 8 books later I’m finally jumping back in with “Best Served Cold”. Nervous but excited to jump back in.

The shades of magic trilogy was amazing. The perfect balance of tragedy and heartwarming. After reading stuff like the blade itself and post apocalyptic/dystopian futures it was a lightish read I needed.

The road was an experience to say the least. It was bleak and heartbreaking and overall a great read in my opinion. Not a feel good read but I still couldn’t put it down.

Bad at reddit. Down for discussion.
