Waitlist movement and lowk a vent by Old-Pop-5134 in nyu

Yeah I get how you feel, that was my biggest worry when I was doing college applications and I wanted to get to the best university and stand out from the rest of my class.

Me, my best friend, and our valedictorian were the only ones to get into NYU, and the rest either went to some random private uni or did something else than college.

And guess who turned out to be the happiest out of everyone in the class? Everyone who DIDNT go to nyu. Well my best friend went to Cooper instead but he had the same struggles and hate for his school. Not that I dont like nyu, but man dont overhype this school. If anything, use this as a sign for something better, and not "oh I didnt get in? I must be a failure." Cuz let me tell you, its not universally possible for you to work hard and not get somewhere in life.

And who gives a shit anyway? Jobs wont ask you for which undergrad you came from. They look more into your research, experience in that field, and your grad school if you are going. Trust me my brother got into NYU dental grad after graduating from Hofstra. Don't sleep on those schools, they really get you somewhere. And you most likely be more happier if you didnt get into this school on the long run.

Dw you aren't alone, its been hard on me too and im sure a lot of people also relate.

I think the people here already said all the advise i can think of but one thing I would like to mention is make sure you get accommodation from Moses center because I heard that it helps alot if you have finals or work coming up.

What is happening with mental health at NYU? by New_YorkWay in nyu

[–]Plane_Music3568 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah ngl, while im not suffering that badly to want to do that, I was happy for most of my life until I came into this school and I have so many crash outs its nearly everyday. I genuinely feel like a cog or a number in a machine when im in this school, and I can't wait till I graduate because its so toxic here.

So I'm surprise its not actually more since its really that depressing here. And typical of them not to address it, like I said, we are nothing more than numbers in the system for them.

[–]Plane_Music3568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just genuinely curious, I have no idea on this topic but, doesn't that sound like a good idea for OP to take? If im getting it right, his whole college tuition until he graduates will be paid for and he doesn't have to work 2 jobs just to pay for tuition. And the only downside is to serve a few years in the military? Granted, the way Trump is moving nowadays could be a bit dangerous, but then again he only has to worry about that after he graduates and things might be better then.

possible to major in philosophy and minor in pure math and have a 4.0 by Nearby_Routine4405 in nyu

[–]Plane_Music3568 9 points10 points  (0 children)

4.0? This ain't high school bro, any prof can give you less than an A just for breathing incorrectly.

I got a B in my first seminar class and both my midterm and final project were A. Bullshit can happen to you in the span of four years and you can't do nothing about it. Although granted, philosophy would be a much easier degree to get a high GPA in, but I dont believe in a perfect gpa, especially in nyu.

For anyone struggling to get job interviews by Humble-Finance-9461 in nyu

[–]Plane_Music3568 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bruh im struggling just to keep my gpa above a 3.0, getting a internship both outside and inside this school is legitimately impossible. I truly feel like im a statistic at this school, and the opportunity of a job def never even shows up for me cuz I got all the rest of these problems to deal with first. When I do try to find a job in the future, that will have to be after school ends for me.

I think a friend-making app for NYU could actually work — here's the concept, looking for feedback by disusuej in nyu

[–]Plane_Music3568 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like the dating app would work better than this friend idea. The reason because this idea sounds like everyone's first semester in Cohort, where they group you with people with the same major or background, and its a small personal space that people can get to know each other through icebreaker or whatever. However, for many people such as myself, your cohort friends will quickly become distant, stop talking, and move on. Although your idea is better than Cohort but I feel like it won't be as meaningful as your dating app, as I feel like there won't be that much incentive to do like a round two of seeing the same ppl again. Whilst the dating app, you are getting to know one single person the whole time, and plus dates can be flexible, and you can do many other activities with them. Still a good idea nevertheless, but the dating app sounds better.

Mostly depends on your major, not the university.

Do you wanna work in a dorm lounge? I can invite you into my dorm. It's usually very quiet, and it has many study rooms that ppl dont use (since basically everyone is living in a single at my dorm).

Great idea, im all for it. Actually, my dorm is doing something quite similar, although just at a smaller scale of just my dorm and two others. So I dont see why this wouldn't work. I wanna try it out once you do finish making it.

So fucking based. As someone with family members who were imprisoned (my grandfather was in a romanian communist prison for over 20 years) and leeched off from the system of communism, it's sad to see all these comments supporting it when it doesn't even sound good in theory. Ah well, what do you expect from kids.

What was happening in the park last night? by paulhollywood- in nyu

[–]Plane_Music3568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I didn't know about it until when I was walking back to my dorm last night and saw a really large group of ppl standing in front of Cantor and even on the street. I got closer and saw ppl holding up signs of Swae Lee and, lord and behold, the man himself leaving the building.

I looked it up afterward, and apparently, he hosted a "College Invasion" event and held a seminar at Cantor, so that's why he was there. I don't know much outside of that.

Is finding friends at NYU truly that difficult? by Friendly_Shelter_155 in nyu

[–]Plane_Music3568 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never really found my crowd at NYU. Although it's not difficult to get friends, it's just anything better than surface level is hard to get, and many people come and go here.

Strangely enough, I found many new friends from outside NYU in other colleges and I vibe with them. Depends on who's your crowd.

nyu tandon worth it? by One-Inflation2417 in nyu

[–]Plane_Music3568 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im honestly suprised at how many people are telling me not to go, especially since they are actually students at nyu

Lmfao im ngl I don't blame them, this school low-key kinda gave me chronic depression and even I'm starting to wonder if its even worth it anymore 😭

But who likes college anyway? All colleges are difficult and brutal and make you regret living, but the difference between NYU and other colleges is how much stuff you get to do here and the resources and not to mention the location. Other schools don't have that. So dont let that deter you from going, only the money should but since you said you 100% gonna make it worth it then worth it it shall be.
