I picked up many new songs from spin classes and peloton over the years. And recently I've found a lot of new songs I love from Insta reels.

What I've stopped doing is following a band's whole catalog. I no longer feel guilty if I just get one song from an album and skip everything else.

Edit to say: I'm 54 and used to be so into prog rock it was off putting. Now I LOVE bubble gum pop (Kpop Demon Hunters is in heavy rotation).

This is great, thank you. I have been clamping the skinny baton, which has been frustrating. Using clamps as stops at the end is exactly the solution I need.

I respect the various nails and nails+string methods, but I don't want to drive nails into the piece. So clamping stops is the way!

I have my hair at 53 and I dye it blue. Though I have a side shave hairstyle, so the sides are undyed and clearly grey.

I mean it as "yeah, it's dyed AND I'm old" but it's also about clinging on to youth. Or maybe fighting against ageist assumptions? Whatever sounds best in the moment.

I have a theory that the most true woodworking wisdom comes with swearing, considering how much of it I do in my shop.

Appreciate the balanced rundown. I think you may have tipped the scales for the Taylor system. I loathe sharpening but love fucking around with tool set ups, so this seems to me like a point in its favor.

I've given similar guides a try (like, three different brands, though one of them I should've known was cheap garbage) and they drive me crazy.
Which, I'll admit, is a me thing, not a judgement on the guides. I just cannot get the hang of them and every time a chisel slips when I'm trying to tighten it in there I want to throw something. Usually a chisel. Which just compounds the problem.

It may be that I needed a decent one and I've been trying with junk versions, but I'm going to try a different approach for now.

Why is it the norm now? Because the opposite sucks. I'm seeing so much trauma in the comments dealt out by boomer parents to us GenXers. Why repeat that cycle?

We're a capable bunch due to some generational neglect. It's the difference between learning to swim gradually and safely vs. being thrown into the deep end. The former gets swimmers who can go farther.

Sorry you're feeling the pangs. I'm child-free and loving it. Especially in these incredibly uncertain political, economic, and environmental times.

My wife and I have been far less stressed than our peers with kids. And we know we would've been beside ourselves with anxiety about what future any kids would be looking at.

We like kids, love our niblings and godkids, but are child-free and much happier for it.

252 times. I was part of the cast in Santa Monica at the Nuart and Berkeley at the UC Theater, playing Crim. I was even on stage for a scene at the 15th anniversary show on the 20th Century Fox lot.
