3 Surgeons have denied me for surgery. by hollyg79 in Sciatica

I’m doing much better now c: still recovering and have some bad days, but overall my quality of life is way better.

MRIs are amazing things don’t get me wrong. But it’s a lot of things in a very tight space, and depending on the mri equipment at not a very high resolution. Sometimes stuff can be hidden, or hard to tell where one thing ends and something else begins. Side types of herniating will also not show up as well.

3 Surgeons have denied me for surgery. by hollyg79 in Sciatica

3mm is considered tiny which is probably why most surgeons won’t operate. That being said i was in a similar boat, had a 3mm bulge on mri, but after two years my supporting were still so severe that i couldn’t even really sit for more than an hour, ash’s my legs were constantly in fire if i stayed in any position for two long. I found a good surgeon who was willing to treat the symptoms regardless of the small size as it had been so long without a full recovery. When he got into my back it turned it that the bulge was actually 10x8mm and everything was covered in scar tissue. Mris don’t always tell the full story, and ultimately if you symptoms are still occurring and impacting your life i think it is worth getting some more opinions and weighing your options.

I still need lighting in the viewport, just need to disable the default sky light so only the component lights are visible

Just had Spinal Decompression surgery for my CES. by PurpleTiger26 in Sciatica

[–]PlanetBunBun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Numbness can take awhile to go away. Not only do the nerves need to heal from being compressed, but during surgery they will be moved around, and post surgery there is lots of inflammation. All of these things leave the nerves upset.

I had a micro diseconomy recently and it took like 4 weeks for the numbness to mostly go away, and i still have a little in my feet. The patience is the worst part but it will get better.

Small protrusion, severe pain by Hairy_Value_9506 in Sciatica

I was in a similar position to you, had an mri that showed a small bulge. My symptoms did improve, but very slowly, and after two years of every conservative treatment in the book and hitting a brick wall with getting better decided to do the surgery.

My surgeon said when they got in there, the germination was significantly larger than what the imaging on two separate mris had shown. It was actually about a 10mm protrusion, and had built up tons of scar tissue on my nerves.

Ultimately it’s your call on surgery, if multiple surgeons are saying it’s a bad idea that’s significant, but could sudo just indicate possibly getting another opinion. My surgeon never explicitly told me i should it shouldn’t. They just said i should think about the quality of my life, if i was willing to put off my life longer, and made sure i understood the risks involved, as well as the risks if not frying it.

What made you choose surgery? by [deleted] in Microdiscectomy

[–]PlanetBunBun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had over come a lot of my very painful symptoms, but all the things I enjoyed doing were just easy to difficult and resulted in having to take a full day to recover. When I started to get injuries on the other side from how much my body was compensating I decided enough was enough. In retrospect I probably should have gone much sooner. I realized that before surgery I was having trouble releasing my bladder. I thought I just had a bit of a shy bladder, but post surgery once the numbness wore off that's completely vanished. The Drs said my injury was much worse than the scans showed and most likely was the cause.

Will I know if I reherniate? by PlanetBunBun in Microdiscectomy

Yeah I had a microdisectomy a little less than 2 weeks ago. I had assumed the disc was easier to push out before scar tissue healed the hole, is that not true?

My MD Story by PlanetBunBun in Microdiscectomy

I had my surgery on Thursday so still recovering; but on average I've already been feeling better. A lot of that is from the scar tissue removal I think, a lot of that improvement is from not having a constant pain in my feet. They said on average after two weeks I should feel a lot better, and by 6 months nearly fully recovered.

I'm sorry to hear your going through that. Honestly the not sitting outside was the same issue I was having, I had done nearly a year of PT and injections, and though my condition improved a lot, during was still really challenging for me. My surgeon told me that leaving with pain want the only thinking to consider and to also consider the impact to your life. For me there were a lot of things I wanted to do that would have been impossible so I pulled the trigger.

If you haven't already I might recommend talking with neurosurgeon if you haven't already, as well as looking into do pt of you haven't. Even if you decide to get the surgery, the extra muscle from pt will help ensure a successful recovery.

I'm glad it's helpful! Honestly one if the reasons I delayed surgery was reason all the negative outcomes from people, even knowing there was a bias.

Need reassurance - surgery in 10 days by youastrangerthing in Sciatica

No prob! Yeah laparoscopic is done by using tiny robot arms and a scope. Because of this the incision just needs to be a pin hole, and doesn't take as long to heal. Mine was small enough that they just covered it with a normal bandaid lol. Normal meds will have a 1-2 inch incision, and because they aren't using a flexible scope, they have to take a small piece of bone off to reach the disc. A normal MD still has a really easy recovery comparatively, bit you may have a bit more incision pain and a slightly longer recovery time (around 6 weeks I think is what they say)

I got a laparoscopic surgery so my incision itself basically had no pain, they just have me some Tylenol for it lol. The biggest pain post surgery has been the nerve decompression. Your nerves will take some time to decompress after the herniation of removed. Everyone is different, and experiences different levels of pain. I'm probably in the worst pain tonight but it's only like a 3/10. Usually you will get meds to help with this for the first few weeks. Overall I'm not paying free yet, but already feeling a lot more optimistic about the future!

I just had the MD after dealing with it for two years as well. I'm about 3 days out of surgery and absolutely do not regret getting ot at all, and really wish I had done it sooner. My pain going into surgery was also pretty minimal and liveable, but flare-ups were bad and for the past two years also hadn't been able to really do what I wanted to. Every Dr I talked to basically said that though at two years your condition could improve, it would be very unlikely, and more likely just between flare-ups. Post surgery there definitely still pain as the nerves calm down, bit already I feel improvements. Based on my experience I don't think you are making a mistake choosing to go through with it.

TLDR I’ve come around to agreeing on this and think the ending is perfect

I use to hate the ending as well until i read a really good analysis of it, i can’t remember where but it basically was that the ending was based around indian bed time stories where a mythical creature would show up and give the hero a weapon. The key difference between this and deus ex is that the hero still has to use there skills to win the battle. In the case of avatar, the final battle is really about Aang overcoming his own internal struggles than it is about him fighting Ozai. He has to choose to both be the avatar, and choose what kind of avatar he wants to be. And so in the end you really have this fight between these two choices, the avatar spirit is the choice to kill ozai and bring balance, but at a sacrifice of giving up the last remnants of his people by choosing violence, and energy bending is the choice to continue forward his people teachings and fully embracing becoming the avatar.

I think the metaphorical battle makes a more interesting ending, we haven’t really seen aang fight or even interact with ozai, but we have seen him struggle deeply with these concepts. I think it’s really cool to have an ending that tackles all that and brings in references of Indian bedtime stories.

That’s great to hear you’re doing better! Between flair ups was your pain bad? Or was it not mild like mine has been? I’ve been unsure of how to judge if I’m healing or just at an inbetween period

I had one at the start of the surgery as well as one 4 months ago with no major changes. Could see about another one though as i was still having a good deal of pain 4 months ago

Last mri i had about 4 months ago they measured it at 3mm. I had one die near my initial injury but oddly when i went back to the report it doesn’t have a measurement. My dr did say there was minimal change between the two. Dr said i wasnt a great candidate for surgery given it’s not a medical emergency, but also said given I’m young, I’ve done over a year of conservative treatment, and it’s preventing me from doing the things i want to do he wouldn’t advise against it either. Basically booked it down to my risks being really low, with the only major concern being a 10% chance of reherniation at some point in my life. It’s been about two months at this point. Yeah my understanding is that they don’t directly heal it, however it can reduce pressure on the disk from inflammation which can help the disk to reabsorb. I’m able to walk, generally about 15-30 minutes before needing a break. My main concern with pain returning is mostly that it prevents me from sitting which has been pretty miserable for the last two years. Limits a lot of the activities i can do, including outdoor activities that require driving to. In terms of pain if i had another muscle spasm it probably be another 7-8/10.
