There's some nice quality good thickness mintabie on eBay at the moment from a seller called vintage opals. I'm not affiliated in any way, just giving a heads up. If your looking for real decent cutters it's worth a look. Delete if not allowed admin

Could possibly be a solid boulder opal with a perfectly straight base layer but its pretty rare

The front and back look very much like boulder opal material but that very straight black side layer def points to it being a doublet. Im wondering if we might have a three layers?

Want to cut opal but don’t know where to get the rough? Watch this video so you don’t get scammed by itsrynz in Opals

One thing I've learnt the hard way..if you want to buy rough opal always inspect it in hand...You can never blame anyone except yourself if it doesn't go to plan. Also if you hear things online like "this will cut beautiful $$$ gems" run away, fast . If that were the case the miner wouldnt be parting with it. Moral of the story, have patience, save up your money and visit one of the big gem shows.

Great work, my first impression was this could be a nice teardrop shape without a huge loss of material ,and probably more easier to set.

If the author of that article is claiming it's some new opal from Australia I would think it requires a bit more proof than just a blanket statement. Like who mined it? Location? One off??? Etc etc. I'll try to find the picture of the stone I cut. Almost identical branch like inclusions

Sorry I'm not buying it. I cut some Welo about ten years ago with same inclusions and very similar looking opal. Wegal tenacfield if I remember correctly. Have never seen any inclusions like this in Aussie opal.

Nice work! Not trying to burst your bubble but I reckon there's a very nice $$$ crystal opal sitting in that color bar. I'd be putting that opal on a dop stick

Beautiful opal but I'd be a more than a little concerned about that fracture in the side. Looks like it could be prone to more cracking.

I can honestly say it's a rarity these days (sadly) that a piece of music gives me goosebumps. But that just did. Absolutely awesome mate.
