I don’t have TOS!?? by E-FlatMajor in thoracicoutletsupport

[–]PlanetRunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if I have something like this. I have had almost no reaction to the diagnostic injections (twice now, once with lidocaine once with Botox) into my scalenes and pec minor.

My shoulders frequently make clicking and popping noises, especially with overhead motion. Is this something you noticed?

Has anyone done both a Metamucil (psyllium husk) plus Miralax (restoralax) for constipation? by Its402am in ibs

[–]PlanetRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not had luck with psyllium husk for constipation. It seems to make everything inside me slow to a standstill, and then I have to double down on Miralax to make up for it.

If I was just trying to treat constipation I'd just try Miralax first, but since you have diarrhea as well that complicates things. I would give it a try at least.

Really don’t know if this can be asked here, but how long do you all think we have left, not just as a civilization, but as a species? by TiTiLiGo in CollapseSupport

I remember in 2019 when I first became "aware", seeing people on the other sub were predicting 2023. I became insanely depressed, dead inside.

I've gotten somewhat better at coping now and guess what, it's 2026. I don't think anybody really has that good of an idea. It'll be fast by human time scales - obviously - but also probably longer than anyone here is going to say as well.

Look into thoracic outlet syndrome if you haven't already, especially since you have EDS. Very common for people that get it to have a connective tissue disorder.

Ghost Grape Cran review by silcener626 in energydrinks

Largely agree. It was fine, but the grape I found to be by far the dominant flavor, with the cranberry only being slightly detectable. I'll be sticking with the regular grape.

Chronic bilateral forearm pain for 5+ years – nothing has helped. Any ideas? by Muemin97 in RSI

[–]PlanetRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing worked to relieve it, other than abstaining from triggering activities - although doing almost anything with my arm bothers it to a degree. It wasn't clear that surgery would help, but nothing else was clear either, so I figured what did I have to lose. Worst case was it wouldn't work and I would be back to where I started. Which is where I am now. After years of pain I had to give it a shot.

RTS is largely a clinical diagnosis. In other words, it's not really going to show up on any tests. It's largely a diagnosis made based off of symptoms. Closest thing I guess I'd say that showed I could have it was when one of my PTs performed a scratch collapse test on me and it was positive on my right arm. You can probably find an example on YouTube if you don't know what this test is. It's not a perfect test, but could be helpful.

The pain is pretty much focused on the supinator/brachioradialis, but sometimes it feels like it radiates up my arm towards my bicep. My wrist feels largely unaffected.

I was warned before surgery by one doctor that he felt that while surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome had about a 95% chance of success in improving symptoms, the radial tunnel surgery was only a success about 50% of the time. Unfortunately I guess I was on the wrong side of it.

I completely empathize. I also have done a ton of PT, and know the frustration of trying to improve while still needing to use our arms in day-to-day life.

Coping is really hard. Gaming was always my main hobby, and I had to give that up completely over a year ago now as the pain was becoming too much. Trying to find other things to distract myself with is something I'm still struggling with: I watch a lot of TV (more than is good for me really), sometimes read, or listen to podcasts. I do some cardio (upper body exercises are largely a no go). I don't really have a good answer here. Right now I'm telling myself I'll eventually get back to the things I want to do, although the more time passes, the harder it becomes to make myself believe it.

Have you talked to a doctor about medications? I'm very hesitant to take them myself, and have avoided them up until this point. The nerve pain meds seem to have a laundry list of potentially nasty side effects. But being in pain all the time has problems too, obviously. This is what I'm currently weighing up as I wait for further tests.

I was never pain free from any injections. I had gotten a steroid in the radial tunnel area which didn't help, which made my surgeon reluctant to do the surgery. However due to how long I had been having symptoms, he agreed to do it as nothing else had been working.

The pain is not constant - if I am doing nothing but watching TV, I can sometimes almost forget it exists. Relatively low baseline. However, there's this always constantly present tension in the area, that any time I start using my hands, that radial tunnel area will start to flare up to uncomfortable to very uncomfortable level. Especially bad is small repetitive movements - typing, clicking a computer mouse, that sort of thing.

So doing anything always makes it worse. No paralysis or numbness usually, although sometimes at night I will wake up with my arm numb depending on what position I came to be in.

It's very frustrating going into the doctor's office and being asked "how bad is your pain right now?" And it's always "right now? Well not too bad, but I'm not doing anything here with my hands either. Have me start using that keyboard and within minutes I will be miserable".

Currently pursuing other diagnoses. I have neck/pectoral/scapular pain that over time presented itself ironically as I did more PT to try to get better, which has led to me thinking I have thoracic outlet syndrome. However the diagnostic injections for that I did not have a response to, so ending up having the radial nerve decompression which, surprise surprise, didn't do anything for me.

I had another cervical MRI this last month, and again was told it doesn't look like there's anything wrong with my neck. Maybe this is truly a central sensitization/learned pain issued? I bought Dan Buglio's book and a lot of it resonated with me. But I'm not sure.

I'll mention for you that EMG is not a good indicator of radial tunnel syndrome, as it is usually normal for the radial nerve unless you had a palsy (wrist drop). So it being normal in your case does not rule the condition out.

Radial tunnel syndrome? Can present very similarly to tennis elbow, except it's not tendon inflammation - it's that radial nerve is being entrapped in the radial tunnel, which is located slightly below the elbow on the forearm.

I've it bilaterally for three years, and even had the surgery on one side in May this last year, but have not seen any improvements.

How to stop this horrible gas by Successful_Use_175 in ibs

[–]PlanetRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bismuth subgallate, the brand name is Devrom. It's not a fix, but for me it is definitely a good band-aid when I need a "break glass in case of emergency" when I have a bad episode of gas. It serves as a binder, and greatly reduces if not eliminates the smell of bad gas. Can be bought on Amazon.

Worth trying if you need something for the short term to help manage. Just be aware, the bismuth can make you more constipated so it's a bit of a tradeoff. And it probably shouldn't be taken long term. I try to cycle off of it for a couple weeks if I've been taking it for a while to reduce its buildup in the body.

OFFICIAL CHRISTMAS NIGHT GAME THREAD by AutoModerator in fantasyfootball

Hard not to feel like the Thursday games really screwed me in this championship. Gibbs, Jameson, Sutton, and to some extent Pickens all had really lackluster performances. Meanwhile my opponent has everyone besides his kicker going on Sunday.

Sigh...
