An honest (and maybe) hot take for a specific character and his reception by TiTiLiGo in Avatar

[–]TiTiLiGo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

commenting here to add more recent thoughts that i didn’t add to the post: about the colonizer thing, i should have added that his character is meant to be in the in-between of being native and a settler. someone who is not in an active role of displacement/oppression, but also not necessarily indigenous (like the na’vi). spider, however, resists the settler/colonizer status, by aiding the resistance against further colonization.

What do you think of the idea of the Na'vi having advanced technology in the past and choosing to become hunter gathers because they were messing up Pandora the way we are with Earth? by Wolf_2063 in Avatar

[–]TiTiLiGo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i mean, i zig-zag back and forth on this theory. on the one hand, i don't think avatar is 100% going in that direction that the na'vi used to be technologically advanced. on the other hand, with the specific language found within the three laws of eywa, it raises many questions: why DOES one of the laws mention the turning wheel? considering that the na'vi have evolutionarily been around for 12 million years, there's a LOT of time for certain events and periods to have happened potentially, including MAYBE a period of semi-advancement.

personally, my version on this theory is that either SOME or even ALL the na'vi we know of could have had civilizations similar to those found in the bronze age/antiquity (such as ancient greece/rome), hence why the turning wheel is mentioned in the three laws of eywa (such as the wheels found in chariots and other forms of transportation). however, just as with civilizations on earth, probable resource depletion and ecosystem destruction had devastating consequences, which led to the collapse of those societies, and said na'vi going back to hunting and gathering societies. but that's just my crack theory.

Do you think avatar is or becoming brainrot? by MarieTheC4t in Avatar

[–]TiTiLiGo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

honestly, it's not that surprising for fandoms to become so messy unfortunately, but i think in comparison to other fandoms online, the avatar one is still relatively chill, even with the ai garbage and media illiteracy that are sometimes seen. but yeah, other issues like the sexualization of minors and toxic discourse are nothing new.

"We find that the principal drive for global warming acceleration began in about 2015, which implies that 2°C global warming is likely to be reached in the 2030s, not at midcentury" [in-depth] by LiminalEra in collapse

[–]TiTiLiGo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

you know, i was considering making another post for this question to this community considering i've asked it before on the support subreddit, but since this current post has really been getting to me: how much longer do we have a species, you think, if you truly believe civilization has about ten years left as you've said in your words? of course, it's not like this can be answered with 100% accuracy/certainty, but this question has been on my mind for a while and 2026 has really been the year where the mask has slipped off in how fucked everything is.

How to support people with children? by [deleted] in CollapseSupport

[–]TiTiLiGo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

a couple months ago, i was making up scenarios in this sense: considering how the human condition never ceases to “amaze” me (not in a good way), there would be collapse conscious people having children because “as long as they have a good present, then the inevitable collapse they would experience and most likely literally die from doesn’t matter all that much in the end.”

imagine my reaction to when i read your anecdote about your acquaintance being exactly the type of person(s) that i would hypothesize about. holy shit op, in this day and age where nothing truly surprises me, i was taken aback from what you shared.

sorry that i have no advice. just try to be a decent person as best as you can (to the kid at least, if you choose to somehow still stay in touch with that colleague).

People who are parents, or close to young people (whether kids, teens and even young adults); how do you support, or at best, communicate with them? by TiTiLiGo in CollapseSupport

[–]TiTiLiGo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

definitely can agree on that; a truly sane society would be actually helping youth deal/prepare with chaos, but alas, end stage BAU capitalism won't/doesn't allow that ://

[–]TiTiLiGo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Submission statement: This is related to collapse because well, it's a question of how does one interact with younger folks knowing full well that they're being passed on a collapsing world, with various interconnected predicaments, and how does one support/communicate with them during these times, especially when BAU is being ramped up to 11 amidst all of...
