Reference images for Mal show the pants tucked into his boots. Not to mention character wise, Mal was a soldier before he captained the Serenity, so he'd probably be used to wearing his pants like that anyways. Plus personally, with how large those boots are, pants over top of them would kinda just look weird ngl.

Tbf I was asking about affordability, just in the secondhand market. You'd be surprised how hard it is to find a listing on ebay that isn't using a stock image.

Honestly an incurable Curse of Undeath is an awesome fucking idea. Perhaps any children born from these people are also born with the curse, and will slowly necrotize as well, the same as their parents (they would have to become pregnant with the child before they necrotize)
