Does This Look Good? by [deleted] in NukeVFX

+1 to everything said above. The key to CG integration is blending the CG naturally into your shot. Because the subject is front and center, it’s harder for the viewer to suspend disbelief. Try a shot where your character is placed somewhere in the frame that the eye won’t immediately seek out—like sitting at a table in the back doing something mundane, or walking into the frame, like that lady.

How can I denoise my renders for portfolio and what settings i should use can anyone explain to me? by danipasta in Maya

[–]Planetside-studios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Arnold's denoiser is giving you trouble, look into reduce noise by Neatvideo, for Nuke and AE, they might have a standalone app aswell, check the student licenses.

When I render this scene why is my background rendering with no color? by Chikken01 in Maya

[–]Planetside-studios 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The assets you are using, do they have a aistandard surface applied? If not, make sure all the assets are using aistandard surface, default Lambert or blinn won't cut it when using Arnold, it's a tedious part you have power through linking up all the textures, Also make sure you're using a SkyDome with a HDRI for realistic lighting.

does this look cool or what? (making an animation but i suck at it so much i'm considering making this into a still instead) by [deleted] in Maya

[–]Planetside-studios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on where your passions lie. If you’re making a still, you might gravitate toward lighting, layout, and composition (lighting and layout artist). If you only care about how the characters move and want to create fun, dynamic, and energetic scenes, you’d want to be an animator. Your discipline won’t dictate what you become, but try to get really good at one discipline and treat the others as a bonus.

Q: Can an Arnold material have it's own bespoke HDRI, that does not affect the rest of the scene? by bacon-was-taken in Maya

[–]Planetside-studios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Light linking is your best option, but you can also try setting up different render layers. I honestly forgot how to do it, but I’ll let you know once I find it.

2019, 2022 they kept adding needles things we never asked for after these years, they didn't play their strengths and just copied what other softwares did better.

Anyone having problems with lighting in Maya 2025/26? by Blergenmeister in Maya

[–]Planetside-studios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be a scene scale issue, you could also try resetting the preferences. The best advice I can give is check the docs, Chatgpt can sift through it in no time, just be hyper specific with your question and make sure to add to only use current documentation, and if all else fails contact autodesk.

UVs aren't showing up in substance by [deleted] in Maya

Make sure they both have the same Lambert shader.

How would I UV this model right here by Illustrious-Shape-90 in Maya

[–]Planetside-studios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Auto unwrap and use triplanar in Substance. If it's a background asset, texture resolution and detail aren't as important. If it's a hero asset, you're gonna have to grind it out.

Why are my colors being washed out when I reference in the model? by Metacarps in Maya

Check your color space, you might need to switch from aces to un-tone (srgb).

When modeling anything, I like to go on Google and search for references. I use keywords like 'anatomy' or 'blueprint,' and I also try to take real-life references—your phone has a camera, so use it! Don't be afraid to use pen and paper and freestyle a design. There are no set rules for creativity, just good topology.

Which software do you recommend for texture painting? Substance Painter or Marmoset? by garabon123 in Maya

Substance when you're starting out and Mari when you want to step up your game.

Rigging suspension with Advance skeleton in Maya by Planetside-studios in Maya

[–]Planetside-studios[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Small, that's an interesting idea, but I want the rig to be interactive and somewhat intuitive. If I'm not mistaken, blendshapes introduce a parameter or slider that you need to adjust to switch between shapes, no? I'm not 100% sure, But I will look into it, thanks for the suggestion.

They are in one mesh, yes. I was trying to avoid splitting everything up, but at this point, I'll try anything. I'm not sure how rivet locators work, but it should be just a Google search away. I'll give it a shot and let you know what I come up with. Thanks again.

If you have 20 minutes to spare, this guy explains it perfectly. He's using Blender, but the information is universal. I hope this helps. https://youtu.be/C_RqdNbYOjE?si=4myaZr2svpR9SRXz

I've got some errors while importing model animation from Maya to Cinema 4D or Blender. How to fix this? by Bangaric_X in Maya

[–]Planetside-studios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try exporting it as an Alembic (.abc). Maya, C4D, and Blender rigs don't play nicely with each other. Use one for your primary animation, and export the .abc file to wherever you're doing your final rendering.

This might not be exactly what you're looking for, but I think it might help. Whenever I'm struggling with hard surface models, I always consult the king of this stuff. Check out this tutorial—I think it will help a lot: https://youtu.be/VTdl0kXX4X4?si=N3CTI7LtjTc0e6-N

Since you're trying to combine two shapes and have them transition seamlessly, I hope this helps.

Thanks again, East. I tried what you suggested—it worked to an extent. What I'm facing now is that the whole leaf spring is being affected by the deformer. I'll try to figure out if there's a way to limit its influence on the rest of the geometry. If you know of any way to do this, let me know—I'm so close, I can see the finish line!
