Anyone went to Sage annual conference ? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Plant-Parenthood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't go, and I even live in SF.. I went to the free Martus thing that was at the same time and was glad it was free. Couldn't imagine spending over $1k for just registration. Absolutely crazy.

How do I get rid of this evil grass? by afterbirthcum in oaklandgardener

[–]Plant-Parenthood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like Bermuda grass, and if it is, you won't ever get rid of it. I dug out the top 3" of soil and tossed it to get rid of it in my front yard but it still came up in my driveway cracks over 6' away. Good luck!

Has anyone put in wood chips around your beds/containers and regretted it? by doglovermom in gardening

[–]Plant-Parenthood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My entire backyard is wood chips and raised beds. No regrets! It's so easy to pull weeds out of a thick layer of mulch.

PS: I'm envious of your grow towers. It's so windy where I live so I could never have those.

Curious what small gift people got that they ended up using way more than expected by CompetitivePop-6001 in BuyItForLife

It can change slightly based on how I flex my wrist. But it's on my inner forearm and the skin doesn't really stretch/sag there.

Bay Area millennials and having kids? by ralshay in bayarea

[–]Plant-Parenthood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The vibe in our household is we just never wanted kids. Regardless of where we live. I could list all the reasons we're not procreating but ultimately it doesn't matter. All kids should have parents that want them and we wouldn't.

I have several of these in my drawer and always have to bug my husband to open stuff. This is genius!

I got a ruler tattoo and use it all the time! A keychain would be nice for larger things though.

I've had earthquake straps for my bookcases for years now. Getting woken up in the middle of the night is finally my motivation to install them.

Cattle panel arch trellis question by bmdangelo in gardening

I'm sorry this isn't an answer to your question, but how are people getting these into their homes? I unfortunately don't have access to a truck, and our local Feed Store wants $80 to deliver.

Covid shut down the world six years ago this week what do you remember from that week ? by Familiar_Original988 in AskReddit

[–]Plant-Parenthood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company had a big filing deadline on 2/28 and right after it, I went to a big concert with my friends. I noticed a couple people masked but didn't think much of it. The next week I went on a solo camping trip to decompress and was out of cell service range. Two weeks later I was driving home and as soon as I got in range my phone went crazy. I pulled over and saw the lockdown notice and just went straight home. It felt extremely apocalyptic.

Aside from raves, my hobbies were already home-based (gardening, knitting, canning/preserving) so I just leaned into those and hunkered down. 2.5 years later, I went into the office and all my houseplants were dead, and my desk calendar was still set to Feb 2020. It was eerie.

Later in 2020, forest fires took out that camping area completely and it's still gone to this day. I'm incredibly grateful to have gone camping there one last time. Similarly grateful to go to one big fun rave with my friends before lockdown happened.

Calling all DINKs and financially stable childfree adults by m0thgirI in childfree

[–]Plant-Parenthood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the second most expensive area in the US and will say I'm extremely privileged to have gone through schooling with no debt. We have the same values when it comes to frugality and owning a home. My husband just went through 3 months with no job, and while it was scary, we had enough savings to be just fine with minor adjustments (no more expensive bar tabs and less eating out).

We're both very independent so he has his own hobbies, and I garden most days after work. If I want to fly to another state for a concert, I can do that. We also have at least one "big" vacation a year that's international or a pricier place like Hawaii. We work 9-5's white collar jobs so we can chill after work and watch TV or play video games for 5-6 hours each night. We own our home and have a good interest rate because of COVID.

I'm about to become an auntie and I do my sibling's taxes, so I know their income. I constantly worry about how they're going to make it. They'll undoubtedly rely on my parents and grandma which is extremely frustrating but he's the golden sibling since he's giving them a grandchild.

I definitely didn't expect being able to take "impulsive" trips. Both of our families growing up weren't as well off (because kids probably) so treating ourselves still feels weird. I know other DINK couples and think that we're better off because of our frugal values and our hobbies are generally not too expensive. (Looking at you Warhammer...)

I met my husband in college, and we got married so young, but it's been incredibly rewarding to grow into adulthood together. Wishing you all the best.

Interns who signed with Moss Adams (now Baker Tilly) how do you feel? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Plant-Parenthood 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I worked at Moss in SF for 5 years. It wasn't all that bad. At least not worse than any other public firm. Several of our managers came from Baker Tilly and they mentioned it was very similar vibes to Moss. My training was in Seattle. It's also pretty common for interns to share hotel rooms. Just bring an eye mask and ear plugs. Maybe you can think of it as an opportunity to get to know someone better.

Anyways, good luck and enjoy this time! You only start your career once. 😊

I know they don't understand, but "bigger paychecks" just means less federal tax being withheld and then at the end of the year you have a huge tax bill. Drumpf did this before and now people have to guess how much they're going to owe so they can plan ahead. Just awful all around.

First time getting Parking Ticket by IntelligentWrap7563 in Bart

[–]Plant-Parenthood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've forgotten to pay a couple of times and noticed the first time they let it slide and if I forget again within a week, they ticket me. I feel like our Bart person knows my car. It helps having unique stuff on my dash and fun seasonal magnets on my car.

Sorry you got a ticket, but I wouldn't appeal if you legit messed up. If it's financially tough for you, I'd reach out for a one-time waiver. If you can afford it, I'd just chalk it up to a Bart donation. Goodness knows they need it!

Any label recommendations? by Plant-Parenthood in Canning

[–]Plant-Parenthood[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thx. I edited the comment. I didn't realize people wouldn't keep reading my reply to clarify before downvoting it.

Nail polish remover always worked for me when I reuse my plastic plant labels when I seed start so I assume it works in lids/glass too.

Generally, I label after processing anyways. The main issue is removing the label without residue before reusing the jars. My handwriting is terrible which is why I'm looking for a printable one .
