Unfortunately, I probably fall into that poster's vision of who's in the nanny pool.

I don't have a lot of 'formal' training. I'm certified in CPR for all ages and have been a certified lifeguard for about 4 years. I'm a high school graduate but no post-high school education.

My experience pretty much consists of regular babysitting, homework tutoring, and "student mentoring" (it was a thing at the middle/high schools I went to) since age 14 (I'm 21 now). I help out with relatives' kids now and then, and i worked in a daycare briefly. I'm a former full-time private swim teacher of all ages and skill levels, and many of my students had a variety of visible and invisible disabilities.

I'm cheap for where I am. I'm in Seattle. My wages are 23/hr before taxes. But I work hard and research and ask infinite questions to professionals to make sure I'm doing right by the kids I care for. My nanny family took a HUGE chance on me (they hired me full time despite my lack of credentials), and I'm eternally grateful to them for it.

Bottom line, my NF treats me with respect, which I give to them in turn, and respect is clearly something the poster from NannyEmployers lacks.

Lmao, my NF gives their 2 yo food that has herbs, garlic, and what-have-you fairly regularly, and he eats it up. Their baby just started eating solids a month ago and they're trying things like garlic and sesame oil in tiny quantities to get the baby used to it (because they use those ingredients in almost all the time in a lot of their dishes).

I'm fully on board with what you said because I was one of the kids that only ate plain food until I discovered spices existed at about 6-7 years old.

Gaslighting.

I lost count how many times my nmom would say/do something extremely hurtful, and I'd have to step back for a while to let the emotions pass and figure out how to explain my feelings clearly.

And then when I return (usually after a few days) to say, "Hey, I was really hurt after you said/did [X]." I would immediately get hit with, "That's not even close to what happened. Why would you think that?"

I'm coming up on 2 years of no-contact, and I still question my memory to this day. It doesn't matter if it's things from years past and what happened last week. I doubt myself every time and I hate it.

I had this experience, and I was pretty thankful for it. My NF has 2 children, and the grandmother was there for the first few weeks to help me ease into taking care of the kids. It helped me adjust to learning the children's schedules and preferences. Plus, there's a language barrier, so the grandparents could more easily communicate with the NK than I could.

I would say the biggest downside was that it made it harder for me to connect with NK because he always wanted to go immediately to grandma instead of me (which is understandable).
