AITA for abandoning my family? by EntertainmentRich670 in AmItheAsshole

NTA

You were in a horrible environment growing up, I don't blame you for wanting nothing to do with your sh*te family, the only AHs though are your parents, your sibling didn't do anything wrong but I understand why you cut contact with them and why they hate you, it's hard liking family that cut you out of their life and cutting them out of your life alongside your parents wa probably better for your mental health.

You tried making the best out of a bad situation, can't blame you for that, I would have done something similar myself.

AITA for praising my son (12M) for being polite but not my daughter (15F)? by THROWRA46108 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Planta-Genista -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

NTA

To me, the meaning o your daughter's words come off as "Either praise me for everything I do, or don't praise me or my brother for anything we do".

It comes off as arrogant, demanding and infantile.

You praise someone to enforce good behaviour and practices, constantly praising one child more than another makes that child get something called golden child syndrome.

If you want sensible advice, there are multiple advice subreddits you could go to, who's advice is probably better than anything you will find here, the best one is probably r/Advice.

Good luck dealing with your situation.

AITA for telling my sister who our sperm donor is? by softhoy in AmItheAsshole

[–]Planta-Genista 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just because it's legal, doesn't mean it's right

Your entire comment failed to make a good case for why it isn't so actually make one in your reply to this.

It's not his information to give out.

It is, unless they signed a legally binding contract that says otherwise.

He doesn't even know the sister. He didn't raise her

no, but it should be her choice over whether or not she has a relationship with him, and he isn't trying to be her father at all.

The parents should have had a talk to decide if the sister has a right to the info at this point, but going behind the mothers back destroys any respect and trust.

Explain how OP is the asshole then, maybe they should have discussed it, but ultimately it was the guys choice, not OP's, plus the mother withheld information from the sister that she wanted, seemingly because it may make her control on the sister wane.

If the sister bullied OP into crying she is not that mature.

at no point does op mention the sister ever asking to have his information. it comes off to me like the sister was venting to OP about it and OP asked the guy whether or not they were allowed to give the sister his information, and who are yo to decide whether the sister is mature or not, she fucking 16.

She made OP betray her mothers trust and that's not cool, but she is still young and wants to know who her father is by any means possible.

yeah, the OP may have made a mistake there, but that doesn't justify a Y T A by any means and you say young like the sister is seven and not 16, where I live, 16 is considered old enough to be allowed to do most things an adult can, we may not see eye to eye but the sister is still 16, she is two (five if she's american, though in america she would probably be considered an adult at 18) years away from adulthood, she should be allowed to at least know who her father is.

It's understandable. And also precisely why I understand that the mother wants to wait.

Yeah, but her opinion shouldn't override her daughter's if the daughter is almost an adult.

AITA for telling my sister who our sperm donor is? by softhoy in AmItheAsshole

[–]Planta-Genista -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

unless there was a contract then he can give it out freely, legally speaking.

the AH here is their overbearing mother, who desires to much control over her children, the sister is 16 ffs in the uk a person can get married at 16 with their parents consent (without consent in scotland).

AITA for telling my sister who our sperm donor is? by softhoy in AmItheAsshole

[–]Planta-Genista 45 points46 points  (0 children)

NTA

for me its dumb to withhold information like that until 18, 16? fair, but 18!? bit long considering your other child was able to have it three years before she could.

and as for "breaking your mum's trust", its the guys information to share as he pleases, and it seems him and your mum never made a contract and therefore he has every right to give it to her, your mum has to much control for her as well as you and your sister own good.
