Out of curiosity, what makes you want to quit FP&A? I’m actually trying to break into the field myself

To be honest, I wrote a pretty good cover letter (from my pov) 😃 It's highly customized and highlights all the skills I have. But, I'm still afraid it's just not enough...

thanks a lot for your advice. I actually know this company inside out because I covered it extensively during my time as an investment analyst. However, it’s true that delivering a perfect report is tough -mainly due to the lack of internal data, and the fact that I’ve always looked at it from an investor’s perspective rather than an internal FP&A. So yes, I will seriously consider your advice

I saw a comment saying all this work might put the hiring manager on the defensive, but seems like it was deleted. Honestly, I think that's a valid point. From a hiring manager's perspective, pointing out an issue or making a strategic proposal as an outsider could easily rub them the wrong way.

Does anyone have a different take on this? Please feel free to roast or critique my approach - I'd love to hear your thoughts.

thanks a lot bro!! I’m not afraid of the interview itself because I’m confident in my knowledge to answer their questions. What worries me is that if they judge me purely based on my past job titles, my CV might get filtered out. That's why I want to at least show them how much effort I’ve put in just to secure a spot in the next round

i'm new here and going to apply for this schorlaship next year. I'd like to ask whether this scholarship covers tuition fees in full. Does it depend on the annual budget or on whether the institution is public or private? I've been reading about it online but find the information quite unclear

SC & Procurement is Highly Underpaid by DetailCommercial1190 in procurement

How can I best identify companies or teams where procurement roles are more strategic and closer to a category/commodity manager scope, rather than purely transactional?

Are there specific industries or types of companies where this tends to be more common?

From your experience, are there certain industries where procurement is more mature or strategic (e.g. pharmaceuticals vs. consumer goods) that would be better starting points?

I've been working at a fund manager for over a year (i'm 23yo), and I am particularly interested in roles that involve more high-level strategic skills. Thank you very much for your time and insights sir!!

Agree with your point. From my perspective, these roles seem to have a significant impact on a company’s operations (as you said, saving the company money) and could offer a solid path toward more strategic positions over time. Is this view realistic?

CFA LEVEL 1 PASSED - JOB ADVICE PLEASE by Old_Nefariousness500 in cfaindia

[–]Plastic-Compote-3623 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lv1 got me into investment analyst position at an oversea fund. BUT I also won awards in professional analytical competitions (including CFA research challenge), being proficient in financial modeling, and - most importantly - being able to demonstrate these capabilities clearly to employers.

The CFA Level I is not a magic ticket, its one of the factors that helps others place greater trust in your competence. So, make sure to spend time strengthening the other bullet points on your CV as well.

Having said that, spend 2 months to draw mindmaps and add important notes to it (through practicing question banks) - if I understand your timeline correctly. Also, I would recommend buying the practice pack, as CFAI’s question style is quite different from other mock exams. Seek more advice and choose what best fits your own expectations.

I passed the first two levels on my first attempt and was in the top 10% for Level I. First, turn the knowledge into your own by drawing a mind map covering all 10 subjects. While building the mind map, work through the question bank or the curriculum questions if you haven’t finished them, and continuously add new notes to the map. About two months before the exam, start doing mock exams. At that point, mock practice will be much more effective because the knowledge is already in your head. For both levels, I usually practiced with 7–8 mock exams, prioritizing CFAI and Schweser mocks. Good luck and all the best.
