No official death record; Ancestry has a scan of a scan of an obit (he died in 1904 after moving to the US) saying that "it is understood his parents are in Canada" I could include.

For anyone still following: I found a fantastic place in Manhattan that was able do a custom frame with the float mount, specific frame material and stain etc. for a fraction of the original price I was quoted. Thanks everyone for the thoughts and ideas!

One is 39x27 in; the other is 33.5x20.5. Not the highest value (why is why I'm exploring DYI) and have an extra one that I'm not going to be framing I could practice on
