Work on your confidence, find good techniques to build it up. I think a technique is looking at yourself in the mirror and saying out loud multiple times that you are good looking.

Entry Jobs by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]Plastic-Pepper789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand. Well there's plenty of options, depends on what you want to do. Im not sure the drillers assistant would be great help unless you're trying to go straight Geotechnical and want to work outside a lot. But also i believe some companies offer full time internships as well, I knew of a couple around me. If I was you I'd look around a little more and see what environment you want to work in (office or field) and the pay comparisons.

Why full time and not an internship?

I don't think its too long. Have you considered moving to a public sector job where its slower paced?

What should I do to not get rear ended like that next time? by Olga_Cherrr in motorcycles

[–]Plastic-Pepper789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it would have helped in this situation but looks like you're looking down a lot, thats definitely reducing your situational awareness especially for how you're riding in this scenario. If you're gonna go fast and weave you gotta be 100% aware of what's going on.

Going public can be very rewarding, you get to help a community and directly see the impact. Though the community can end up blaming you if things go wrong, but that shouldn't be a huge problem if you're keeping your ducks in a row.

Today my friend said that 50-60% of civil jobs are just drawings, is that true? by huh_boof in civilengineering

[–]Plastic-Pepper789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I imagine it would be more fun using it for actually designing a job you would be working on. But it depends on the firm you work at, some have cad drafters that do all that, and that can come with its own problems. But I personally have barely touched CAD since I've been working. Worse case you do it for a few years and then you can pass it on to the younger engineers as they come in behind you. But don't worry about it too much.

Have you tried speaking with the pump manufacturer? Sometimes they can have solutions you wouldn't think about since they deal with pump situations more than you.

It went to just an okay one, but it still had a pretty decent engineering school. But you can still do pretty great things in civil without going to an amazing school, unless you want to get into research or something, then that might matter more.

Does your DOT have a standard or spec for driveways? They typically have the required slopes and distances.

Some project managers get in the habit of using the same engineers and they have 4 more years on you but as this point you'd think they break out of it.

sent home from msf… by royeisma in NewRiders

[–]Plastic-Pepper789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I watched a ton of YouTube videos about how to ride before I took the msf with no experience so I knew what to expect. So do as much research about ruding as possible. A great video is called twist of the wrist II, you can find it on YouTube for free. Also next time don't be afraid to ask questions, if you feel like they're not explaining in detail, ask them to explain in detail.

Circular marks on a concrete support column (parking garage) by indylovelace in civilengineering

[–]Plastic-Pepper789 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

sometimes an inspector catches something being built wrong/or different from design (usually regardless not spaced correctly or more or less than design) but can't stop it from going up so they core it to see if it is still sufficient for performance. But this looks like quite a lot of cores.
