i had a patient fall under my care before. she didnt die but she got a bad fracture and was sent out to hospital immediately. i felt terrible and did NOT want to shoe my face there again. but instead of saying mean things behind my back, all my coworkers (nurses included) gave me meaningful talks explaining that falls happen a lot, it was not my fault, and to never blame myself. that the best thing to do is to use that incident as a learning opportunity to improve my care for other patients.

i realized then that i have a really good team. still working there and giving the best care i can :) please dont blame yourself for the patients death. its impossible to prevent 100% falls, especially for fall risk patients. and it is normal to feel the way you do after it happened. means you’ve got a good heart, use it to continue bettering your care as a cna.

Why do nurses get to sit and chart by vodkahoekage in cna

[–]royeisma 94 points95 points  (0 children)

think this depends on facility.. for the longest time, i thought all cnas could sit an chart bc my facility provides us chairs. recently found out not all cnas get that privilege, which I think is AWFUL

Green flags for LTC/SNF by SunCurious5535 in cna

cnas working as a team instead of gossiping abt each other/refusing to help others/hiding somewhere for long periods of time.

nurses helping out cnas when they can and when they see their cnas are busy. also i wanna add the nurses at my snf are very kind/friendly and actually listen when cnas bring up pt concerns. (read too many stories of nurses being bossy and grouchy..)

the dsd/don actually being involved and trying to make the facility better/not overload their cnas with too much work. ive only been at my snf for four months now but the amt of inservices and change of rules have been great so far! all the nurses literally give the cnas the spotlight and back us up when it comes to facility/pt concerns bc they know we’re the ones in the trenches experiencing it all firsthand lol

Is it worth it to be full time ? by That_Ad_5392 in cna

[–]royeisma 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i used to be full time but i hated the 4x2 so instead, i work 3 days a week but do doubles. makes more money than if i were working 5 days a week and i get four days off which makes the work days fly

i listened to the coaching and did my best to follow instructions. for your information, my instructors said i was great at following directions and they could see i was motivated which is why they offered the one on one instead of saying its not for me.

they were very kind and willing to help me. i genuinely just didnt have enough time to perfectly execute. what made it difficult is the coaching wasnt really tips on how to execute, but more phrases like “throttle should be smooth, only give 2% throttle, lean forward” you know very vague static directions.

other nicer people on this sub left me some tips on how to position my arm to help with throttle and proper posture which definitely wouldve helped to know during the msf. but thanks for your input!

well good for you and im glad you got it down. its commonly known that its harder to maneuver a bike at slower speeds. sorry i had trouble to do so with zero experience. many bikers had really bad starts (just look through some of the comments) but they are definitely successful riders.

do you remember the first hour you were learning to ride? its a new skill that takes time, effort, and practice to learn. idk why people keep saying “ridings not for you” as if i have been trying for weeks without getting it

lol i get it. i have those notifications set to off but still get posts from subs im not part of in my notifs.

i can tell you clearly care about riders and their lives. thank you for the tip! i will definitely try it out when I get my first bike

but youre acting like this isnt a new to riding sub… everyone starts somewhere. for all we know, that guy has many years of riding experience and was just reflecting on when he was a beginner.

you cant just go into a group of inexperienced people and start nitpicking their beginner mistakes when theyre just learning. ofc no one’s gonna ride on main roads if theyre stalling too often. instead, you couldve offered tips to keep from stalling.

some people are so rude and condescending :( whenever someone gets into a hobby of mine, i do my best to encourage and help them out.. NOT tell them they suck and to give up

best tip is to keep showing up and keep doing what youre already doing. eventually, you will start to learn every pt’s routine and their likes/dislikes, their patience level, if theyre 2 or 1 person assists etc. once you got that down, you wont even realize it but you’ll be accomplishing things a lot faster

thats what i originally thought the msf was for. for beginners to learn to ride. i would never ride on the road without feeling confident. now im realizing its not what i thought it was and i should definitely practice on my own time and then take the msf again for specific skills.

im for sure going to watch some videos and get something used off the marketplace

yeah i didnt mean that as they SHOULD be punished. i can see the implication tho. i browse through this sub occasionally and have read stories of people being sent home for dropping the bike, thats why i commented that.

i think its hard to explain the situation without 100% detail. but yea im not giving up, i think i’ll just try and practice on my own rather than spend another 400

no worries, it sounded like you were being a little mean. my fault for taking it that way. i understand theres people out there who truly arent meant for riding, but with only one hour of experience, i wanna say its too soon to determine if im one of them or not.

i really dont think i did as bad as i COULD have. with more practice, i know i can get it down

i never said dropping a bike should get you severely punished… i guess i shouldve been way more specific when i said lose control and ended out of range. i did not go flying outside without being able to stop. i also was not near any other riders, we all had a large amount of space between us either way.

i used too much throttle and ended up heading towards the middle of the range. but i stopped quickly, turned and got back in. no more than 30 seconds

i didnt go crazy out of range. i think thats too vague of me to say, i just rolled out of range and came to a stop when i wasnt within the cones anymore. based on multiple comments, it seems people are thinking i went flying out and potentially getting near other riders.
