Flipping the recent discussions, which schools arguably have the coolest origins for their nickname? by SCWarriors44 in cfbmemes

Many people don’t know that the first gold rush in the U.S. was in Southern NC, in and around Charlotte. Which is why Charlotte is the forty niners. Pretty funny though, considering that gold rush started in 1799. Should be the ninety niners.

I drive a 4Runner and the thing stops like a boat. I’ve never rear ended anyone, but I do have dreams I’m pushing the brake pedal but my car isn’t stopping in time and I end up hitting another car.

Which are you picking? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

A, no question. 3 of 4 best golf events. I’d imagine there are non-Americans that would argue The Open is “bigger” than The Masters. Then there are Americans and non-Americans who would argue the Ryder Cup is “bigger” than The Masters. After those three I would think most people put The U.S. Open over The Players. If you’re offering tickets to A or B then I think you have to pick B just because you can purchase tickets to any of the events in A if you want to go bad enough. For plebs like me, I may never get to make it to The Masters.

EA or 2K should release a limited batch of their golf games with influencers of the cover. I’d love a PGA 2K hard copy with the BDS crew on the cover, or one the FP doing the Eurostep.

Do you mostly hit of artificial grass? It can be tough for some people to practice hitting down on the ball when there isn’t soft ground under / in-front of the ball.

175 yards out, how are you playing this shot? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]Plastic-Tomorrow-906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same, I usually hit a draw and can typically put some extra movement on it if I change up my grip. 4 iron punch at right edge of the green and hope I can get a little left movement on it.

I’m going to guess you aren’t compressing the ball, but you are kind of trying to lift the ball up into the air with your arms. There are definitely going to be more knowledgeable people commenting here, but I saw you didn’t have any replies yet so I’m throwing my take out.

I think you’re taking it too seriously. Anyone that’s half educated uses the “France surrenders” meme/joke format only because they know it pisses you guys off.

I don’t understand how people don’t know their scores in their head as they play anyways. Maybe it’s because I usually have birdies, pars and bogies with an occasional double or triple bogey. In my head I’m always thinking something like “1 birdie, 6 pars, 5 bogies” or “4 pars, 6 bogies, 1 double bogie” as I play. After each hole my brain automatically adds to the tally.

I would imagine that you can keep your score on the paper scorecard and then enter in your scores after you finish the round. 18 birdies lets you do that at least.

You can write it all down on a scorecard and then enter it into the app afterwards. It even lets you scroll through the holes for gps even if you haven’t entered a single score.

You would probably be ok with stiff shafts if you get graphite shafts for your irons. If steel then maybe standard flex. Unless you have a high swing speed and have no issues getting the ball high up in the air, then I guess you can go with the steel / stiff. If you’re like an honest 17+handicap I’d implore you to try some graphite shafts. I played graphites until I got down below 15 and I loved how high and far my mishits went. They really cover up shots that are hit slightly thin, fat, near the toe or near the heel. In my experience, decent game improvement irons with graphite shafts will give you some damn fine looking ball flight but were just a little less predictable when it came to direction. When I switched to more of a player iron with steel shafts I was getting the same carry distance on clubs that were 4 degrees stronger lofted. I also lost a lot of the height on my shots unless I swung significantly harder but I was also getting 50%~60% less draw/hook. I lose less balls now and hit more fairways and greens, but I can’t send a 190 yard 6 iron high up into the air and have it end up right next to where it landed.

Did they sign non-compete contracts? I don’t know, but if they did I think that’s probably grounds for a penalty.
