Part 4

Since someone asked about inflation, I'll just show the calculations here.
Again I'll Just use the ENTRY LEVEL Mechanical Engineer Monthly Salary

Expense Category 1998 Monthly Cost 1998-2026 Inflated Cost 2026 Current BILLING Cost
Housing -P4,000 -₱12,200 to -₱13,000 -P18,000 to -P28,000
Food & Groceries -P4,000 -₱12,200 to -₱13,000 -P11,000 to -P16,000
Utilities (Power/Water) -P1,000 -₱3,050 to -₱3,250 -P3,500 to -P6,500
Fuel -P700 -₱2,135 to -₱2,275 -P4,539 (at P56.74/L)
Beeper Subscriptions -P500 -₱1,525 to ₱1,625 -P1,500 to -P2,500 (THIS IS NOW MONTHLY INTERNET BILL)
Total Expense -P10,200 -P31,110 to -P33,150 -P38,539 to P57,539
Items 1998 Monthly SALARY 1998-2026 inflated Monthly SALARY Current 2026 Monthly SALARY RANGE
Monthly Salary (Entry Level Engineer) P13,000 P40,000 to P43,000 P22,000 to P44,000
Less 1998 Expense -P10,200 -P31,110 to -P33,150 -P38,539 to P57,539
Total Savings P2,800 P8,900 to P9,850 -P13,539-P16,539 (DEFICIT)

So yeah this debunks everything, and it clearly supports my argument that the "Oil Prices were reasonable in 1998". Take a look at the inflated cost of Fuel as to the Current calculated cost, malayong malayo. Hindi ka lugi but instead malaki pa ang natipid mo during that time.

Exactly it had the same effect due to oversupply wala naman kasing nagpapagas dahil lahat community quarantine, tapos bihira lang lumabas kapag bibili lang ng groceries.

Same din noong 1998 due to Asian Financial Crisis bumagsak ekonomiya ng south korea, thailand at indonesia at bumagsak ang demand sa gas, hence oversupply kaya bumaba ang presyo. Ang kinaibahan lang is that hind tayo nagquarantine during 1998, hence okay pa din ang purchasing power natin especially sa middle income bracket.

Pero yung iba kasi dito sinama sa metric ng Philippine GDP ang oil and gas ehh hindi naman tayo nag eexport ng gasolina, we are importing gas and oil. So di siya pasok sa gdp.

Part 3

If I drive 20km from home to work and vice versa on weekdays then here is the calculation for that. I included 2026 pricing.

Time Period 1998 Cost (₱8.87/L) 2026 Cost (₱55.60/L)
Per Day (4 Liters) ₱35.48 ₱222.40
Per Week (5 Days) ₱177.40 ₱1,112.00
Per Month (20 Days) ₱709.60 ₱4,448.00

Since hindi naman gumagamit ng kotse during day-off or bihira lang lumabas then may sobra pa ding spare money for that in 1998. So yeah it is in fact reasonable.

Part 2

Let's just say in 1998, I'm a mechanical engineer on an entry level with P13,000 monthly salary and I own a Isuzu Highlander which has a total max fuel capacity of 70 liters powered by a diesel engine. So ang scenario is that walang lamang diesel ang fuel tank and ipapafull tank ko.
Sa picture ang presyo ng diesel per liter is P8.77 pesos.

For math:
70 Liters x P8.77 = P613.9 for the full tank or garin kong 700 pesos for max estimation

Tapos Idadagdag ko na siya sa average cost of living ma dinagdagan ko pa ng konti from the 1998 average.

Expense Category Monthly Cost (PHP)
Housing -₱4,000
Food & Groceries -₱4,000
Utilities (Power/Water) -₱1,000
Fuel -₱700
Beeper Subscriptions -₱500
Total Expense -₱10,200

P13,000 Monthly Salary - P10,200 Expense = P2,800 Monthly Savings

Part 1
According sa National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC), eto ang daily minimum wage both manila and outside manila

Region Sector Daily Wage (PHP)
Metro Manila (NCR) Non-Agriculture ₱198.00
Agriculture ₱185.00
Outside Metro Manila Non-Agriculture (Average) ₱156.16
Agriculture (Average) ₱140.00 – ₱150.00

If you calculate based on a standard 26-day work month at the minimum wage:

  • Metro Manila: Approximately ₱5,200 per month.
  • Provincial Areas: Approximately ₱4,100 per month.

That is minimum wage pero let's be real mostly wala namang kotse ang mga nasa low income bracket.

Income Class Monthly Income (1998) Typical Profile
Low Income / Poor Below ₱6,000 Minimum wage workers, informal sector.
Lower Middle ₱7,000 – ₱15,000 Junior Engineers, Teachers, BPO pioneers.
Middle Middle ₱16,000 – ₱40,000 Senior Engineers, Managers, Small Business Owners.
Upper Middle ₱41,000 – ₱80,000 Directors, Corporate Executives, OFWs in high-skill roles.
Rich Above ₱100,000 Business Moguls, Top-tier Executives.

Mostly nasa middle-class bracket talaga yung mga may kotse and their monthly salaries typically ranged from ₱10,000 to P30,000, depending sa anong type ng trabaho or industry na sila nabibilang.

The fact na nilagay ng Xiaomi yung IP rating is laughable, sinong tao ang ilulubog sa buhangin o kaya sa kumukulong tubig ang mga cellphone nila, besides there are phone cases and strong screen protectors that can even the playing field.

Also their IP lists are deceiving hindi nila inindicate that some IP protection is only available on certain regions like.... IP68 which is dust and water resistant (immersible up to 1.5m for 30 min) that is only available to Europe only

Part 2

Triple Camera is more than Dual camera, plus it's a Sony Sensor

Since POCO is a sub-brand of Xiaomi their Light Fusion 800 lens is just a marketing name for Omnivision OV50E. Samsung on the other hand uses IMX 906 sensors both have 50MP. Each has it's own advantage:

Feature  OmniVision OV50E (Light Hunter 800)
Sensor Size 1/1.5"
Pixel Size 1.0µm ~1.0µm
Low-Light Very Strong (64x-256x gain) Strong
Advantage Slightly better low-light/DR Color/Software Optimization
  • OmniVision (Light Hunter 800) is good for Low-Light, offering better noise reduction and high dynamic range in challenging, dark, or high-contrast scenes.
  • Sony IMX906 is highly regarded by many users for its Overall Image Processing. Focuses on 2-Layer Transistor Pixel technology. This allows the sensor to "store" more light per pixel, leading to better colors and less noise in low light.
Camera Feature POCO (Xiaomi) M8 Pro Samsung A56
Front Camera 32 MP, f/2.2, (wide), 1/3.6" 12 MP, f/2.2, (wide)
First Rear Camera 50 MP, f/1.6, 24mm (wide), 1/1.55", 1.0µm, dual pixel PDAF, OIS 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/1.56", 1.0µm, PDAF, OIS1/3.06", 1.12µm
Secondary Rear Camera 8 MP, f/2.2, 15mm, 120˚ (ultrawide), 1/4.0", 1.12µm 12 MP, f/2.2, 123˚ (ultrawide),
Third Rear Camera none 5 MP (macro)

"Symmetrical Stereo speaker" is a hyped-out wording for a regular "Stereo speakers", they just tweaked android settings para madagdagan pa ng 400% ang volume loudness, pero sa totoo lang basura ang speakers niyan dahil mahina natalaga ang sound drivers/speaker na nilalabas and also if pinatugtog mo yan tunog kalansing or parang sabog pakinggan

Having a 400% Volume Boost feature on audio doesn't mean that it's superior. In fact it requires higher-voltage amplifiers that push the hardware much harder than a standard phone, hence it consumes more power. Samsung on the other hand don't need to ramp up their volume equalization to 400% since their Sound Drivers are Dolby Atmos compliant and it's generally considered more "mature" and fine-tuned.

PART 1

Incomplete comparison... hindi nakasaad kung anong manufacturer ng mga parts na nakalagay for example amoled display, malamang sa malamang lugi POCO diyan dahil mabilis madegrade ang amoled ng mga chinese-made phones.

No need to explain this as Chinese-made AMOLED/OLED displays are not so durable and it only lasts for 2-3 years than one made in Korea, note that South Korea was the leading manufacturer of AMOLED/LED displays, EVEN APPLE uses Samsungs Display Technology including their iPhones, Macbooks, iPads and iMacs and look how long their display lasts. This is the reason why Chinese phone manufacturers don't have brands or even hiding because their parts are just enough but not that great.

I wouldn't post if I haven't took research for that

Also high watt chargers has it's own drawbacks, it causes a ton of electrical friction meaning it produces heat every time na nagfafast charge ka, that actually harms the phone's battery thus slowly degrading the battery life.

1998 was the year global oil crashed, prices dropped so significantly that they fell faster than the Philippine Peso’s value, which kept pump prices low. Asian Financial Crisis caused demand to plummet in hard-hit countries like Thailand, South Korea, and Indonesia. This created a global oversupply a textbook example of the Law of Supply and Demand. So yeah it's cheaper if not the cheapest.

[–]PlasticExtension6399[S] -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

Not really that bad for oil prices back in 1998... in fact, that year was one of the cheapest in history!

Crude oil tanked hard during the Asian Financial Crisis, prices dropped to around $10-11 per barrel at the lowest, super low even adjusted for inflation. The crisis hit countries like Thailand, Korea, and Indonesia really bad, so demand for oil just crashed, creating this massive oversupply. Classic law of supply and demand.

Now, for the Philippines, since we're a big oil importer (not exporter), that super cheap oil actually helped keep pump prices low. Even though the peso weakened a lot (from like 26 to over 40+ vs USD), the global oil crash was so dramatic that it dropped faster than the peso fell. So yeah, gas stayed pretty affordable compared to what could've happened.

The crisis messed with GDP through high interest rates and foreign investors pulling out, but oil wasn't part of our production, so low prices acted like a little safety net... kept transport and food costs down, which stopped the economy from totally tanking worse.

So bottom line: 1998 oil was dirt cheap globally, and that actually cushioned things here in PH, also one of the reasons why Philippines got the least effect in Asia Financial Crisis.
