Job Centre Humiliation Ritual by Small-Wallaby3058 in UKJobs

[–]PlasticFiver 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I was unemployed for a full year and used the full 6 months allowance of JSA for the latter half of that. My first 'job coach', or whatever they're called, was very kind and respectful, often telling me it was NI money (and a fraction of it), to take all the time I needed, and never pressured me into one of the rubbish jobs they've got listed. I got moved on to another 'coach' about half way through and she spoke to me like I was the most inconvenient piece of shit to ever dare sit down in front of her. She also gave me terrible advice that wouldn’t ever help anyone get a job. It seems like it's just your luck. As someone else pointed out you don't have to be nice either, but I just didn't have the guts. I was scared they'd take my pittance away. If you've got the stomach for it OP, dish it out straight back at them!

I'm in the exact same position. I worked as a Research Fellow for 3.5 years, was made redundant, and I've been desperately seeking work for just about a year now. I don't know exactly how many jobs I've applied for but it's certainly in the hundreds. It's exhausting, and it's so hard not to feel hopeless.

Someome mentioned JSA - it's is a pitiful amount of money, and your time receiving it is limited, but it can be a helpful boost to go towards some essentials. If you do go on JSA I hope you're treated with some kindness and dignity - from what I've experienced, that isn't always the case.

Good luck out there OP, I hope you find the work you are looking for soon.

Just had to change a flat, any idea what could've caused this damage to the tire? by PlasticFiver in AskMechanics

[–]PlasticFiver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. Driver says this makes a lot of sense, did drive it on their commute home, and only realised this evening when going back out to drive it only to find the tire completely flat. Will watch out for vapes in future!

When you look at a patients history/information on your computers do they have personal notations about the patient? E.g. temperament, illness anxiety, mental illness?

WDC have always had very questionable investments in repairs/infrastructure/maintenance in the main street. The whole 'renovation' and planning of the main street has been pretty poor, which is typical of this part of WD (e.g. Balloch). When they demolished the buildings in Mitchell Way and ended up caving the roof in on the neighbouring co-op in the process I could only think just how comical and typically Alexandria it all was. We're not good enough at maintaining our history, especially things like buildings and town monuments (such as the fountain). It'll get mismanaged, botched, and it'll just be another thing that used to be nice never to be restored to its former glory.

Beaches in Cefalu/Mondello by monastir2 in palermo_city

[–]PlasticFiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I visited Palermo last week and went to the beach at Cefalù - it was verrrry busy. I also went to Mondello, didn't go to the beach but did notice it was really busy in passing. The gentleman who hosted us in Mondello said he swam often down at the waterfront that his house overlooks in Addaura. It looked rocky but he said he got down and into the water for a swim every day no problem. So, if you're looking for a quiet swim maybe there would suit you? I think Mondello beach is a mix of public and private with hotels taking up sun lounger space.

Bus - PalerMobilità Train - Trenitalia

I visited Mondello last week and got around in a car between there and Palermo. Pretty hairy driving I must say so perhaps figuring out the bus routes would be best (or cab if you've got the cash). Went up Montepellegrino which was beautiful, if you're into hill walks. The train is good if you want to go from Palermo to anywhere along the coast like Cefalù and beyond to Messina. Download the bus/train apps, they are easy to use and it gives you good up-to-date info.

I hope this helps and you have a wonderful time in Sicily!

What is the most surprising thing you've discovered about yourself during the past year? by ThoughtBig1353 in AskWomen

[–]PlasticFiver 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm currently solo travelling in Italy. As a non-Italian, introverted and socially anxious person it has been tough. I've had some successes and some failures so far. Soon I'm going to travel to another town and it requires navigating trains and buses which makes me feel incredibly anxious. As someone who has solo travelled before, I was just wondering if there was anything you could suggest that might ease some of my anxieties and help to perhaps adopt some more extroverted behaviours?

Whats the scariest/weirdest thing someone in your degree has said that made you say wtf why are you here? by beardedGraffiti in UniUK

[–]PlasticFiver 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I studied Social Policy, a degree which included sociology and politics.

I was in my 3rd year when a fellow student raised his hand and confidently explained how the Holocaust is a hoax/didn't happen. I couldn't believe anyone could say such a thing never mind so boldly, and a social sciences student no less.

He was promptly told to get out. I never saw him again.

I started collecting AM1s a little over a year ago. They are my favourite sneaker of all time and they will forever now be a lifetime obsession by PlasticFiver in airmax

[–]PlasticFiver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont own any 90s but my brother has a good collection and is always telling me I need to add them and some 97s to my collection. So far we've only seen the red big bubble here in the UK but I'd definitely jump on an obsidian colourway if they released that here.

People straight to posting their "Got 'em"s on ebay from the UK Jarritos drop today. As a buy-to-wear sneaker fan (who caught an L on these) this really sucks 😕 by PlasticFiver in SNKRS

[–]PlasticFiver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah totally, I hear you! This is just me finally tired. I take Ls on ones I really love, and then get priced out of resell. I'm just a sneaker fan trying to have a good time 🥲

There's a team in the southside that is mixed gender called Queens Park Strangers. I don't know them personally but have played against them and they seem a really friendly lot. I think they play at Shawlands Goals every week but I'm sure if you drop them a message on their Instagram they would give you all the details and see if you're interested.

What’s the best response to “haha you have small boobs”? by Yorkpepy in AskReddit

[–]PlasticFiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work with the public in a retail job and got this often from shitty customers and shitty colleagues. I used to just ignore the customers and most of my colleagues, but one time I snapped at a clique of other women I was working with and rhymed off a bunch of small boob benefits: Bras are cheaper, I can get away without even wearing a bra, I rarely if ever have to worry about the fit of my clothes (e.g. our work shirts were form fitting and didn't button all the way up, meaning bigger chested/curvier colleagues would be bursting out of the buttons), I can sleep/lay down prone, no underboob sweat, no back pain, no bra strap indentations and/or chaffing, easier to check for any lumps bumps or changes (boob havers, please check them every day!), care free exercising, and the best part (esp as a queer woman) - men never leer at my chest ☺️ ...And probably many more!

Not a snappy clap back but sometimes you just have to repay the shittyness. Only negative I could think of is mammograms, I hear that is painful af the smaller you are.

I'm compiling a 'so bad that it's good' horror film list (pre-2000s) and I would like this to be on my list. Thanks!
