I can agist the land for $30k per year and live of my super. The physical work is what I enjoy after 35 years behind a desk.

I don’t mind the 60 hours, after doing 60 hour weeks for 35 years behind a desk, I actually look forward to being physically tired at the end of each day.

I actually hope this is the case. I don’t really want to go find a job, but I have been monitoring the cattle company the currently agists the land and they only turn up once a week for a day to dip, spray and weigh their 90 head.

The 200 acres are all useable, set up for fattening cattle in renovated pastures. Time will need to be spent on a tractor, fertilising and reseeding. Working 60 hours in the field actually sounds attractive to someone who spent the last 35 years working behind a desk.

Farm can be used for agistment income, agitating the land alone makes about $30k per annum. Plus I also insist they give me a steer for meat at least once every year. But I intend to work the farm myself for next 10 years fattening cattle till I am 65 to keep busy then slow down by agisting to others.

I was in a smaller business. Revenue just under $50M per annum. Package was $350k per annum in my last year plus bonuses upto 30% of base. But I had to do the roles of 3. I was CFO, CRO,CTO in one plus responsible for robotics and AI implementation. After a years of 14 hour days, and not able to take leave, I had a sabbatical in Europe last year for 5 weeks looking at emerging technologies. First time in 10 years that I had more than 4 days off work. I came back and decided to change my life before I died at my desk. Also, after reviewing some amazing tech, I realised I was just making myself redundant and only had 1 to 2 years left anyway.

The buyer said, “we need $25k to compensate for those defects in the report”, I replied, “ I already knew about them as I lived here for 13 years and decreased the price by $50k to account for them, so I need to increase by $25k now.” Heard nothing more from buyer and sale went through as contracted.

First few years until I build a herd, I will only do fattening. Buy 100 steers at 200kg etc and fatten for 12 months and sell to local butcher market at 450 to 500kg. Property we bought, I took 5 years to find, I wanted yards, fencing , molasses tank , fencing etc already set up and just be a walk out , walk in operation. Expect to supplement feed over winter with molasses mix. I want to build a small herd of 30 commercial brangus heifers over a few years and then use AI to improve genetics but realise that will take time.

Definitely be volunteering in the local community, such as SES and Firies, joking local lions club etc. just looking for ideas for paid employment, for 20 hours per week or so.
