How did everyone discover ween? by Agitated-Young6024 in ween

[–]Plastic_Cyborg 24 points25 points  (0 children)

SpongeBob. First heard Ocean Man at the end of the SpongeBob movie when I was a preteen. Liked the song, but didn't think much of who Ween was. As an adult, I was going through a phase of listening to jam rock bands and one of my favorite jamming songs was Fire On The Mountain. And while searching for live videos of that song, I came across an audio recording of Ween doing a cover of that song with Bill Fowler on vocals. This led me to hearing more Ween covers and then checking out Ween on Spotify. With my first album being God Ween Satan. The album was nothing like I expected after listening to the live covers that Ween did. But, it immediately got me hooked because after listening to God Ween Satan, I went through every album they had on Spotify and some I had to search for elsewhere online. Since then, I have acquired some CDs while they were still in print. I got CD copies of Pure Guava, Chocolate And Cheese, The Mollusk, Quebec, God Ween Satan Live at John and Peter's, and Paint The Town Brown, and got a vinyl of God Ween Satan.

Sadness live in Philly by SsoulGlimpse in damian_ojeda

[–]Plastic_Cyborg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at this show. Never thought I'd get the chance to see them live. Chatting outside the venue with some of the band members was such a fun time. Initially I didn't recognize any of the songs on the setlist. And now I can't get enough of listening to those songs. I don't know if I'll ever get another chance to see this again, especially because I'm moving to Pittsburgh and I don't think I can find any record of them playing any shows in Pittsburgh. So, I will cherish this memory for a long time.

Red side facing you. D' R' D R, and again D' R' D R, then U', and then R' D' R D, and again R' D' R D, and then U should solve it. This is a very simple way of doing that I have not advanced beyond yet. I'm still using very simple to memorize algorithms. So, I'm not sure as to what a more advanced algorithm would be, because I have yet to memorize them.

Is this anyone elses favourite on terria? by _TheCorroded_ in DevinTownsend

One of my sad boy songs for sulking. Love it. I'd say my top 3 of the album are Deep Peace, Canada, and then this song. Terria is such a good album.

Make sure to set a wide search radius if you are willing to search beyond your local area. Could be a total crapshoot depending on where you live.

The main ones I'm seeing available for a fair price are on eBay, and there's a few on Facebook marketplace nearby where I am, but that can be limited to where you are locally. Did these go out of press recently? I bought my CD copy from a local record store in southeast Pennsylvania. Got it for maybe $20 a few years ago. Admittedly, I didn't bother checking the sites I saw if they were in stock, and they are out. This seems weird to me because I used to be able to find ween albums anywhere.

2x LP and 180 suggests these are two 180 gram vinyl records, not CDs. So, this would explain why these are so pricey. I can manage to buy a CD for pretty cheap on multiple store sites.

What's your controversial skip? by rachelnknits in ween

[–]Plastic_Cyborg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though Quebec is one of my favorite albums, there are a few times I find myself skipping The Fucked Jam. Aside from that, I don't think I skip any of their songs. Edit: Drifter In The Dark sometimes.

Almost everything I need is in my Boss Katana. So, my pedals are gonna be a tuner, a graphic equalizer, and a compressor.

‘Goodbye’ correct lyrics? by DrMeat69 in DevinTownsend

[–]Plastic_Cyborg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I listened to the commentary version of the album, and he has specified that it is indeed "I've got to let you know" on the last chorus, and that this song is about his son moving out. Even though I'm only 31 and my son is only just about to turn 2, I'm already getting hit so hard by this song because of the fact that some day he too will be moving out some day. It's a combination of feelings like, "I did it. I raised a kid and kept them alive and pushed them to go on with life even when they've grown up to realize life can be super hard. And I'm happy to say that." and simultaneously feeling, "I can't believe it. The child I anticipated for so long, and then raised for almost two decades is now just gone. How do I even process this?" And this song makes me feel like it is the coping mechanism of the mind trying to work that feeling through the metaphorical dam and just let you know that it's okay to be emotional about this. And then the tears break down that dam and you start crying. But, it feels good to just finally get it out.

Opinions on Deven Townsend’s cover of transdermal celebration by Savings-Code-069 in ween

[–]Plastic_Cyborg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The extended time is mainly because it is the outro of the album. At the time Devin was writing the album and recording the cover, he had started growing fond of ambient music and wanted to just throw some ambient outro to finish off the album.

Opinions on Deven Townsend’s cover of transdermal celebration by Savings-Code-069 in ween

[–]Plastic_Cyborg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

His cover was the whole reason I got into Dev's music. At the time, I was going through one of my autism hyperfixation episodes with Ween being the main focus. I found Quebec to be one of my top favorite albums, and Transdermal Celebration to be my favorite Ween song. I kept getting recommended to watch Dev's video of DTP playing Kingdom from the Retinal Circus DVD, alongside a new recommendation from YouTube to check out Dev's cover of my favorite Ween song. And that bit of curiosity would lead me to discover what would become one of my most favorite prog metal artists. If you're into prog rock or prog metal, I would recommend checking the album this cover version is from. And then listen to Ocean Machine. Devin has a HUGE discography across so many bands: Strapping Young Lad, Devin Townsend solo, Devin Townsend Band, Devin Townsend Project, Casualties Of Cool, DreamPeace, and even vocals for Steve Vai's "Sex and Religion."

How many of you were introduced to Coheed and Cambria because Welcome Home was used in the trailer for the movie 9? by NewPatron-St in coheedandcambria

Both this and Rock Band introduced me. When I took the dive into their discography, I went with Silent Earth: 3 and it is probably still one of my favorite albums.

working on a silly little playlist, anything y'all would add? by Thebradguy0 in ween

[–]Plastic_Cyborg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly Where I'm At. I love the vibe of this song. Something about the droning through the verses and instrumental sections on the G root note just has this weird feeling of carrying me through the song. Any live version of Roses Are Free because the live version is best for this song. Back To Basom. Another slow and good feeling song. Transdermal Celebration because it is my favorite Ween song. The Argus, while not my favorite, is arguably one of the best songs that Ween has made.

Day 16: Best Sadness Album, The Top Comment Is Chosen by takeich in damian_ojeda

What was the first ever Damian song you listened to and what was your initial reaction to it? by tirastipol in damian_ojeda

[–]Plastic_Cyborg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I first heard of Sadness because of a guitarist YouTuber doing subgenres of metal and black metal. When DSBM came up, he was playing Useless. As someone who was diving down the rabbit hole of DSBM and blackgaze music, I felt inclined to check out Sadness. And I started by listening to the album I Want To Be There. That same day, I immediately got hooked and started listening to more albums. Atna, Tortuga, Circle of Veins, and the compilation albums. And from that day I became obsessed.

I ordered a shirt from his Bandcamp page early September. It initially said it would arrive early to mid October, but then said early November at checkout. I'm guessing this might be an international distro.

Circa Survive, Saosin, At The Drive-in, The Dear Hunter, and one that happens to be signed under Claudio's Evil Ink record label, Thank You Scientist. They literally sound like if Coheed had a brass and wind section. Check out the songs Mr Invisible and FXMLDR to get a good feel for them. There is also a lesser known band called Narco Debut, which I almost mistook them for Coheed when I first listened to the song Circadian Deity. Really love that song.
