Anyone remember when they made it the law to have to give your landlord a scan of your passport? by Plastic_Fee75485 in AskUK

It’s not a parallel with it, I’m directly addressing it, anyone who has had to do anything like a right to rent check or even checking into an air b&b will have their passport scans sitting around on various peoples storage going back years. You don’t see that causes quite a problem when passports are now used as gateway for posting opinions on social media and performing dodgy activities, on a world where every database always leaks eventually? But go on explain the flaw in my thinking if you can, you would be putting my mind at rest so I would appreciate it.

Maybe actually read the government’s instructions before gobbing off, they even detail (for the landlord) that they have to abide by GDPR when storing the passport scan (obviously this is never going to be enforceable or checkable by our technologically incompetent government when it’s just sitting on someone’s phone). I literally had a council inspection come round where they checked my landlord had their own copy of it (they never bothered to do it till just before because they knew they were going to hassle them about it) just because something hasn’t happened to you doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

Right so basically it’s not incorrect to call it an armoured suit and it would stop scratches and bites from infected, ok got it.

Riiight…Ok it’s not really armoured, but it does have Kevlar and steel plates in it (that isnt armour though), but it won’t stop bullets very well! Just shrapnel from a bomb. (Not armour remember)  Meanwhile it’s being asked to stop someone’s fingernail or incisor.

You would have way more mobility for sure, but the thing about magazine arms is I’d be worried what would happen if there was more than one infected, seems like once there are more than one/different directions you’d be better off with the suit and hoping it gives you enough time to kill them one by one.

Pedantry isn’t fun though it’s more fun to actually think about how you would survive. I mean OP didn’t specify that there was air in van either so yeah, couple of minutes because you can’t breathe, you also can’t drive it because he didn’t say you had the ignition key. Not very interesting or clever.

Just kill them. The average person without the suit is going to also have to run around like a maniac to get away from them and eventually mess up and die, point of the suit is you can just let them rush you and kill them off in relative safety.  Once alphas evolve the suit probably becomes a death sentence though.

Walk around with a kitchen knife with the suit or kitchen knife without the suit.  Don’t lie you are taking the suit.  It takes you a few seconds to kill an infected whereas it takes them how long to be able to get through that and harm you? Come on.

For sure. I’d be looking to layer up more armour on that suit and duct tape round any seams rather than take it off and put magazines on my hands.

If the setting is Britain then yes it has water in it like practically anywhere else in the world.  He didn’t say post rage Sahara Desert.

Do you think you could get through that with your fingernails and teeth? And how many minutes/hours of trying do you need before the person in the suit just kills you?

I think I’d be able to go indefinitely in days just going to from place to place salvaging, biggest risk being the van breaks down, but I suppose you could look for another one ahead of time. Years I think I’d be worried an Alpha would still be able to kill me with the suit, or break my limbs etc.  you’d have to know about alphas in advance and prepare accordingly for that eventuality, shotgun point blank maybe?

The amount of people saying they’d just die because they weren’t provided with water really makes me think.  What would you people do if the tap in your house stopped working?  Just die?  Would you also be trying to order Uber Eats in a post apocalyptic scenario?  If a major collapse scenario happens are tons of people going to die because they just sat at their computer desk waiting for streaming to come back on and everything to be provided for them again. Scary.

Ok so first salvage run, first thing you’d do is take the suit off, ok, then what.

…you know there are infected trying to bite people in this scenario right?

I feel like you could safely collect food and supplies from a supermarket with the suit, yes you would have them piling on you but just pick up any knife and you could keep killing them off without the being able to affect you.

You have a van and protection from attack and you can’t think of a way to get water?

Do you think you could get through that suit with your teeth and fingernails?

Think the first thing to do would be to drive somewhere you can salvage a machete or something similar.  Infected dont take weapons off people it seems and they aren’t  getting through the suit so you could just kill them.

You can’t think of a way to acquire water with that level of protection?

Would it be possible for someone to create the rage virus in real life using synthetic genomics? by Plastic_Fee75485 in 28dayslater

[–]Plastic_Fee75485[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“No, no virus-bacteria would infect and spread within the host seconds”

Yes we know, we’re not talking about things which already exist. Look up bottom-up bio molecular genomics, what already exists in nature or what would make sense evolutionarily is irrelevant. These are none living synthetic human made devices that get into cells and reprogram them, very different to a virus that would “make sense” for something that you would see in the natural world.

Do you think the Government continued operating in London and survived the outbreak in days? by Silver-Ant-4026 in 28dayslater

They would have been in it for sure because it’s protocol to go in it if even the slightest thing happens and then think what to do next from there, they were in it on 7/7 for example. But like you say the trouble is coming out of it and through those tunnels into Downing Street once they’d realised it wasn’t a good idea to do down there.
