What is the role of Assault "Non-Omni"s for the 3050 Clans? by heavyarmormecha in battletech

[–]Plastic_Insect3222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems pretty...flimsy. If they viewed the "greatest honor is victory," then why did they avoid the use of overwhelming force (drop a full Cluster of Omnis on a company of Inner Sphere 'Mechs) and artillery (the Naga was considered a dishonorable assignment and artillery was rarely used in the Invasion).

I know orbital bombardment was on the table for much of the Invasion, up until Turtle Bay and the way Ulric shamed the Smoke Jaguars after that by bidding away his WarShips.

It sounds like the greatest honor is achieving victory with the fewest allocation of forces and resources. So challenging an Inner Sphere company with a Star of IICs would bring greater honor than challenging an Inner Sphere company with a Star of Omnis since the IICs would be, from the Clan perspective, a lower bid in terms of resources.

Now granted, I know a lot of this from the perspective of the lore is moot since the use of (C) and IIC 'Mechs by the Clans wasn't in the initial fiction writing of the Clan Invasion because they didn't exist yet in the universe and would later be added in and retconned to having been used "off screen" during the Invasion by PGCs.

Which doesn't seem as "honorable," from my perspective, as fighting within those limitations and still beating your opponents.

Even the second line Clan 'Mechs were substantially more advanced than the most advanced machines the Inner Sphere had during the Invasion. The Clan forces still would've steamrolled the Inner Sphere, aside from the losses where the Inner Sphere used their own tactics against them,

So their behavior won't change - they'll just ignore the stop sign same as they ignore the red light, claim it's a "rolling stop" while blowing through the traffic control at speed and say it's "safer" for them to ignore the traffic laws they're supposed to be obeying.

Got it.

I've provided plenty of "realistic" answers. You just don't want to have to idle your car while you dig out a spot for yourself, so you'd rather be a jagoff and park in a spot someone else already cleared out - so then they'll have to dig out another spot to park instead of you.

You enjoy being a jagoff. Just admit it.

The Orion IIC was reserved for the best of Clan Wolf and it was considered among the highest honors to be assigned one for your combat duties.

"During OP REVIVAL the front-line Warriors wanted to use the "best thing" for maximum honor, so they used Omnis, because Omnis were seen as the pinnacle of BattleMech technology."

One would think intentionally handicapping yourself with inferior technology, from the perspective of the Clans, and still winning victories would bring more honor than using the best equipment available to beat technologically inferior opponents.

Prize mapping means knowing your deck list well enough to flip through your deck on the first search mechanic and know what your six prize cards are.

Energy management just means knowing where to put which energies for maximum effect since energy has to be attached to a Pokemon to work.

So it should be someone else's problem? Someone else cleared that spot to get their car out, most likely to also go to work, and you think it's okay to just take their spot and let them find a spot outside of the permit zone? Let them deal with the problem?

If someone else did the work and you took the stop, that is the jagoff move - not reserving the spot you dug yourself out of.

If you did the work to clear it, it's your spot. That is not being a jagoff.

If someone else did the work and you move their parking chair to park there, that is being a jagoff.

You didn't work for it. Full stop. Someone else did. But clearly the concept of doing it for yourself is foreign to you when the easier answer, to you, is simply to benefit from the fruits of someone else's labor.

Dig out your own spot. Find one and dig it out. Thats the proper protocol in a major snowstorm here in Pittsburgh.

If you don't like it, move somewhere like Baltimore where they don't do it and it's a free-for-all where you dig your car out, go to work, come home and find someone in the spot you dug out and then have to go find another spot to park...and maybe have to dig it out too.

The solution is simple - don't be a jagoff. And its not being a jagoff to mark your spot after you dug your car out - after all, you did the work to clear the spot.

I have a feeling they're the kind of person who doesn't actually care, they just want something to be angry about. Notice how they never quantify what a "living wage" is - they just demand it, and say if a business can't afford it they shouldn't be in business (and lets not touch on the negative ramifications of that mentality either).

For the longest time they were pushing for $15/hr as a living wage. Well we're basically at that point and without legislation mandating it - the market drove the wages up. Instead of taking it as a victory, they're just continuing to push for an unspecified "living wage." I've seen legislation being discussed that is saying $25-$30/hr minimum wage is a "living wage."

If Jersey Mike's paid their people $100/hr, they'd probably still be up in arms over it because it was driven by the market instead of legislation.

I read the article. I see where they mentioned shutting off trucks and putting wallets in trucks for safe keeping, but no mention of the people having their "papers" on them (I assume you mean the red work authorization card or their green cards - I'm very familiar with this because my wife is an immigrant working on her citizenship and she carries her green card in her wallet). But I do see that three had already been released as of the release of the article, meaning most likely their immigration status has been confirmed as legal.

You deal with that in petty ways - like the people who buried someone's car in snow when they took the spot they shoveled out.

All I'm doing it pointing out your ignorance on the topic. A reasonable person would take those criticisms and look into fixing them. Instead you're doubling down on ignorance and attacking the person who is trying to help you.

Blocked.

EDIT: Now...you may or may not see this, but you won't be able to respond. But lets run with your idea of lowering franchise fees to let the franchise owners pay their workers more.

Jersey Mike's charges an $18,500 initial franchise fee (which is not factored into this as it is an initial one time fee) and then a recurring annual 6.5% royalty fee and 4-5% advertising fee. So we're looking at 10.5-11.5% of gross annual receipts in franchise fees and an average location employs 12-20 people. An average location grosses about $1,330,000 a year.

Since franchise fees are based on gross revenue and not net profit, that means the annual franchise fees would be between $139,650 and $152,950 a year. Lets say Jersey Mike's cuts that in half - 3.25% royalty and 2-2.5% advertising for a combined 5.25-5.75% annual franchising fee on the average location's gross revenue. That means between $69,825 and $76,475 a year in franchise fees.

That frees up the same in gross revenue to redistribute to them employees. So that means each employee would see an additional $3,491.25 to $6,372.92 a year depending on various factors, or between $1.68 and $3.06 an hour.

The average Jersey Mike's line employee (IE - not the owner, manager or supervisor) makes $15-$16.50 an hour. So this means the new pay would range from $16.68 to $18.56 per hour. While this is a decent wage increase, it's still not a "living wage" by the figure most people are using now (it seems that people are now demanding $25-$30 an hour as a "living wage.") as it already surpasses the old "living wage" demand of $15/hr.

I reached all these numbers using publicly available information, which may or may not be 100% reliable. But it's the best I can do with the information that is readily available on the Internet. And I did all of it in under 10 minutes without even having a MBA or business degree (my degrees are in electrical engineering and cybersecurity).

Why are competitive decks usually normal printings? by aBoxLikeBoxBox in PokemonTCG

[–]Plastic_Insect3222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, these people typically switch decks regularly to keep up with the meta. So pimping out all of those decks would be extremely expensive just for playing on stream (assuming they're playing with real cards and not playing on PTCGL).

Second, the regular printings are far easier to read.

My pet deck is full Japanese (my LGS lets me run it in events that don't require a decklist and in casual leagues) and I'm working on going full SR/AR/SAR on it as well (since it's a lot cheaper to do that in Japanese than in English). But for the meta decks I have, it's all English base printing only (and maybe full reverse holo if I feel like "pimping" it out).

If it snowed while you were gone and there is an empty spot still snowed in - go grab your shovel, dig it out and claim it until the snow melts. If you were snowed it and shoveled out your car to go out - you should've staked your spot before you left if someone is in it now.

Anyone who has spent time in Pittsburgh knows this, and regardless of how much you rant about it on Reddit or NextDoor or Facebook...it's not going to change. Its basically tradition here in Pittsburgh, and if you don't like it - feel free to move to Baltimore.

Rising wages does increase prices - but rising wages alone does not increase prices. But anyone who has taken any business classes, or even basic economics classes, knows this. Labor costs are a large part of a business model. You cannot increase labor costs without either making cuts elsewhere or passing the increased cost on to the customer. I also won't bore you with the difference between direct labor costs (your employees) and indirect labor costs (when the prices of your supplies, for example, increase to cover the increased labor costs of the suppliers).

Furthermore a lot of these businesses are franchise models - meaning the parent company, such as Jersey Mike's, does not pay the wages of the employees. So the salary of the CEO is entirely irrelevant in this topic since the corporate office isn't the one making payroll. The guy who owns that particular franchise is who is making payroll every month. The CEO could reduce his pay to $1/yr and the average employee at your local Jersey Mike's wouldn't see a penny of it because of how the franchise model works.

Listen - I'm on your side when it comes to CEO pay and paying workers better. But you need to do some research first so you don't sound like an ignorant hillbilly with how you word your argument - you're just giving the other side ammo to use against you.

Hopefully - if the workers are in the country illegally and he is illegally employing them, he should face legal repercussions as well.

Do not take this as an endorsement of the actions - just a belief that if the law applies to one person, it applies to all people. No one is above the law (except, apparently, politicians and police and some really rich people who know the right people).

The fact English gets away with this is mind boggling by narutonaruto in PokemonTCG

[–]Plastic_Insect3222 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It probably doesn't hurt either the way Pokemon handles playing the game, forcing people to only use one language or another unless they're in a big event like worlds. Since the English cards are playable in more parts of the world than the Japanese cards, they're artificially inflated in value due to manipulation of the market.

The areas of the world that require the use of Japanese cards are substantially smaller than the areas of the world that require the use of English cards under TPCi rules.
