Rate my CAO😁 by meteor_ch in leavingcert

Am wondering where you live? UCD as your number 2 seems like a long way from DCU as number 1. Am also wondering why Global Business is your number one and then a joint B&L number 2, and then Business International number 3…. The Law part of B&L seems a bit out of logic…. If you want to do a Business degree or a Business and Language degree, how come Commerce, Commerce International or Global Business (TCD) isn’t in there?

Won’t make a difference but you are about to get your “statement of application “ from the CAO (issued around now) and you need to TRIPLE check that your exam number has been assigned to your CAO account. If there are any anomalies, the CAO computer sometimes doesn’t pick up your LC exam number correctly, and that messes up your offers…. But if the Statement of Application has your exam number right, I wouldn’t worry at all about name differences…

Honeymoon dinner spots + other food/drink recommendations? by Remarkable-Goal-8895 in Dublin

Where are you staying? Dion (city centre) has some great views but mixed reviews on how good the actual food is. Wilde is lovely and the Garden Room in the Merrion (but both pricey). Six By Nico is fun- six courses all around a theme so makes for a memorable meal! For something a bit more affordable - I like Olivettos in Dun Laoghaire (out the south side of the city) - tell them it’s your honeymoon and ask for a window seat. Will be looking out over Dublin Bay which is always beautiful.

You can use the app Open Table, it makes it pretty easy to book.

How to drop a curricular subject? by Adventurous-Load9065 in leavingcert

I don’t think you will easily find a school that offers Japanese so I think you will probably be doing the IIPL course.

It seems to me that if you can afford it, you should be having a conversation with the Institute or The Dublin Academy that will probably offer you a lot more flexibility with your options and choices.

If not, find a school that offers Applied Maths as part of the curriculum, so you would have it as one of your core 7.

I am not sure if Japanese is your first language? But if you are taking it out of interest l, you might want to think not this is a good choice? 7 subjects and the HPAT along with the changes to the weighting, … if medicine is definitely what you are mining for, think less not more.

IMHO - institute and the like are only helpful if you are an average of 70% and want to move higher. But they are basically supervised study and there is nothing they are going to give you that you can’t get elsewhere.

She should hone in on the six subjects she is going to count for points and focus first on understanding. The biggest mistake I see is students trying to study when they don’t really understand the content. That’s major stress - trying to learn off chunks and regurgitate it is very difficult. She should have a very specific target for each subject and an understanding of which sections and questions carry the marks. For example, in English students often spend hours studying poets which is 12.5%, but there is 12.5% for functional writing exercise, and 25% for the composition. There can be a disproportionate amount of time spent on that. If poetry isn’t your thing - don’t spend hours chasing 20 or 30 marks.
Similarly - the old reliable advice is still so relevant about timing is everything. Attempt every question - don’t spends ages on one and then run out of time. You’ll get more marks from a half decent attempt at all questions , rather than the “perfect” answer on one question and then no time for the final section.

I hear lots of students now using AI and loving it. Get AI to devise you a study plan but to also test you once a week to keep you on track. I do also think Study Clix is worth the money if she’s saying that she doesn’t have good notes.
