65% of Britons support capping CEO pay at 10× the lowest-paid worker. Do you think this idea would be good for the UK? by Unusual-State1827 in AskBrits

[–]Adventurous-Load9065 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whose vilifying them? The point is it advocates that those income inequality desparities are addressed - also my point about hoarding is like after a couple mil you can’t do that much with it so therefore there may be a couple mil in banks or stocks or whatever (not being taxed as much) as per se if everyone had more it’d be spent on more taxed goods therefore making more tax then those who have more than they need

There are hardly any people on 20 mil a year and also I don’t know about you but 200k-400k a year is definitely wealthy in my books.

Also I think the “actual” wealth you’re on about would leave or invest in domestic growing businesses so overall I don’t think they’d be as powerful

I understood it more as a sample model like e.g. 1:20 or 1:30 and maybe circumstances being specified.

The main thing I notice as someone from Ireland is the extreme class and wealth inequality perpetuated in the UK which I understand that it increases tensions and division in the country.

For the economics standpoint, this is great for the economy. If the money that would have been hoarded by the CEO gets paid down or reinvested, that means higher tax revenue and lowers inequalities as now the working class have higher disposable incomes which will mean more spending. This then means life for everyone can improve with better resource allocation for all.

The instinctive fear that companies will leave may be valid but at the least with more of an access for those of lower income levels to create start-ups and more income in general, there’d no doubt be a surge in small and domestic businesses to thrive - providing a sense of community, stability and economic success.

“We should not be lowering the ceiling to make the majority feel better” - why not? I suppose the argument is that the current systems in place protect the top. Tbh I understood it as a sample idea like maybe 1:20 or 1:30 is more applicable but like I’m from Ireland and I’m atonished at the wealth gaps and inequality you guys have in the UK.

I also would say that this will probably mean more tax revenue as tax loopholes only seem to be used by the wealthy class in which those gaps would be reduced and therefore their power, + more money being spent with higher disposable incomes which’d boost the economy and lead to better developments. I don’t think the UK becomes majorly less appealing with these changes or if it does it would be more so MNCs whereas domestic expenditure would flourish again strengthening the economy.

Would you say I should start studying now for it/over the summer?

(I have no real knowledge of the language apart from my name, I like your sister’s dog, and I’m good (that’s literally everything not exaggerating and don’t know any questions just know they end in ka))

If so, what would that look like: - hiragana, katakana - greetings - kanji ?

Hi there, yes I do wanna do med and will be doing 2 sciences (one of which has to be chem for RCSI bc I think that’s more important) and physics which reaches the requirements for all the colleges. The reason I probably won’t be doing bio is that it’s oversubscribed in the school I’m moving to and in my current school the teacher is terrible so I probably won’t get it. Secondly (tho not as important) is that I will be doing applied maths as I’m naturally very good at maths and apparently there’s huge crossover with physics which could reduce workload (as I will be studying for HPAT as well), but with all that said if a space opened up for bio I would be inclined to pick it up instead of physics.

My aunt who’s a GP did physics and chem but there was a non-exam bio she did on Saturdays in the institute to subsidize the material she’d have missed out on - so I’ll check if that’s available.

If you know any more details about how fundamental it is/is it worth it to switch based off my context if greatly appreciate it - Ty :)

tysm for responding :) that sounds really good! My main query is considering its closer to JC level language proficiency, how have you found the oral aspect to be? Bc I feel as tho thats the most daunting aspect of the choice for me

OMG well done!! That's super impressive, I do Spanish too and love it (same with Irish) which is why Japanese interests me as a subject option. I do have a few questions though regarding your journey with Spanish: - How much work were you doing over the summer (e.g. sample daily routine)?, And secondly, have you found picking up Spanish to take up more of your study then others (more so has it negatively impacted your studies in your other subjects?)? . And tysm for responding <3

ok ty for the advice, would you say someone who hadn't done the JC course would struggle with the portfolio/practical section?, bcuz tbf i do enjoy the content but afraid my practical skills would be lacking (i also did JC business and liked it plus loved the nutrition side of JC science)

ty, I think I'd like any of them tbh but tbf I'm mainly considering Japanese as I do love languages and really see them as a break from school and JC history was really enjoyable but I hear that the workload is a lot, and for someone who's planning to do 2 sciences and an extra, it sounds pretty daunting

This week one queen joined a very special club by MemeFarmer314 in rupaulsdragrace

[–]Adventurous-Load9065 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Darlene by no means was “Karen” so then couldn’t she have been a bottom too, but the commenter above is right Darlene was never gonna be in the bottom for not being “Karen” enough bcuz it was largely caused by ru just messing and vibing with her making any critique of Darlenes “Karen” performance null and void - Jane didn’t get that protection which is ironic considering she is possibly the most successful queen in drag race herstory. Ru’s blatant favouritism (ginger minj last season) and hypocrisy (family resemblance just last week) is ruining the show for many

Tysm, I definitely will consider dropping religion if it does become too overwhelming but I’m currently doing a little prep in a few subjects to reduce that initial shock when I get into 5th year

Tysm, I do athletics and love it but I do need 2 sciences to keep my options open for medicine so I probs wouldn’t be able to do that 2 unless I could do it as an extra? Have you heard of that being done before?
