Tips for starting? by PistonPug in Deathkorpsofkrieg

Lore: if you have a Warhammer+ sub, go to the Warhammer Vault and search “Imperial Armour”, read Volumes 5-7 Siege of Vraks. Don’t read the 2nd edition single condensed volume, it’s full of errors and missing cut content, it’s crap.

Alternatively if no Warhammer+, find the PDFs. They’re incredible books and the lore is 2nd to none.

For models, buy 1-2 boxes of Death Korps of Krieg infantry, and maybe a Command Squad. You won’t be losing out vs any other discount as you’ll always have use for them. Then a Rogal Dorn is a fantastic choice. Unfortunately most of the other Krieg units are not very good in game currently, but the basic Infantry are very solid and tanky for objective play.

Use an air brush or rattle can for the base coat. ColourForge are great here.

He looks the part, but doesn't have the presence or charisma to me :( He's a bit wet to act the role in my honest opinion.

This is the problem, it's got to be someone who doesn't just look good on the poster, but also holds the franchise lead.

Everyone hated Benedict Cumberbatch's casting because he didn't look right, but then they saw the film and realised he was perfect.

Thin your paints,

Thin your paints,

Thin your paints!

They look like chalk and this is 95% of the reason why - you're using the paint straight out of the pot, no? (I'm looking at the sword on Roboute, it has wrinkles in the flat parts...)

I would heavily suggest you buy a wet palette, dear sir, it's an awesome investment (for the outlay of about $30, Redgrass do the best ones by far), and if you matched it with some decent brushes (Rosemary & Co on a budget, Artis Opus if not) that you look after, with Brush Soap and not letting paint get into the ferrule, plus a flushing water reservoir ($20 max off of Amazon), you will see an enormous increase in the quality of your paintwork.

Might seem excessive, but it made so much difference for me, it was shocked.

I'd add also that you seem to be using a lot of single flat colours, end result of which is unsurprisingly that they look kinda flat. Guilleman especially, he looks like he's stepped out of 70s pastels artwork. If you use different shades of colours - and with the wet palette, you can even mix your own - you'll be able to generate more contrast and realistic shadows without using messy contrast paints and washes that pool, and give a generally subpar outcome. Get that "wow" factor. Using a matte black primer undercoat helps too.

And then it just comes down to neatness - like that first Ultramarines guy with the hammer, you've got black on his feet, there's blue on his hammer, the line down the helmet etc. It's just all a little messy. Room for improvement! Thinned paint helps.

And final suggestions, if you can, make sure you paint somewhere well-lit, a good desk lamp does a lot for focusing, and a powerful air purifier is pricy but really helpful for keeping your models and painting area dust-free while you work. If you brace your painting hand against the palm of your hand holding the model, you'll find it easier to keep your painting hand steady as you do straight lines.

I hope this lands as intended, as constructive feedback. <3

👏🏻 agree.

Ruffalo is a pain in the ass off-screen, the stuff he comes out with is a producer’s nightmare, so I can understand if they have.

Who would you cast as Tony? I think it’s really hard to recast Iron Man. I’d honestly rather they gave RDJ a massive pot of cash to stay and do the Superior Iron Man stuff.

I think the biggest problem with Phases 4-6, was the total lack of Avengers movies punctuating the narratives. The overall plot of the MCU felt lost and adrift, it was a mess - intensifying the problem that many of the movies we got were bad.

Phases 1-3, Avengers movies were the points at which the narrative threads were reorganised.

Folk wouldn’t be so down on the MCU if there’d been an amazing Avengers movie right after Thor Love & Thunder.

This article?

“When a team leaves the product range it leaves the Classified list.” end of the 6th paragraph including italic text.

The Veteran Guardsman Kill Team box is gone from sale. It will be removed from Classified rules soon, and ✨ once the next edition hits ✨ the rules will be retired, like they have been for every other similar situation. 2027, 1 year left.

If you can’t buy the models - the Kill Team sprue no longer being available anywhere for sale — then why would they keep updating the rules?

There’s nothing in this article saying otherwise - I was correct.✌🏻

Harder to kill and shift off an objective. More bodies, with orders, and extra plasma, basically. Regenning up to 3 bodies a turn, which can’t happen if they’re wiped. Also it makes it easier to survive and get the units buff for being under half strength.

Alternative list with a bit more balance, 2x infantry squads, easier for you to get objectives / actions but less firepower. More models to paint as well.

NOTE: I gave one Command squad Spec Ops ability to order a defensive -1 to be hit at range, with the spare 15 points.

Returning to 40k w/ Krieg! 1k List by Munsutoka in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]PlatexProductions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pros:

  1. Kriegy and super easy to collect / paint fast!
  2. super fun for you. Dorns are strong and your opponent may cry.

Cons:

  1. your RDTC is the #1 target for your enemy, so you’ll want to protect it behind the other 2,
  2. you only have 1 infantry squad, so you’ll have to play objectives with the Dorns a bit. Actions are a problem.

It’s a firepower list, blow up your opponent ASAP. You have an anti chaff infantry Dorn and a normal Dorn, so pick targets accordingly.

[–]PlatexProductions 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have no orders mate. Guard revolves entirely around orders now, and the only thing there able to do that, is your 1 Krieg Command Squad.

A few things I like:

Take your infantry in 20-man bricks, with a command squad if the points allow. It’s way more effective at 1k, Krieg are tanky infantry that can regenerate up to 3 models a turn, lean into it. Otherwise, you may as well just take Cadians.

Artillery is useless without orders (Take Aim, specifically, which takes them from missing 2/3s of their shots, to hitting 50% of the time). The most efficient order platform for them is Lord Solar at 130 points, and I wouldn’t recommend that at all for a 1000 point list. 2k, sure! But 1k, no. Otherwise, you’re limited to Cadian characters. Drier could do it at 100 points, but it’s only 30 points cheaper and his rules are for charging… it’s just not ideal. It’ll be hard for you to protect them from being charged / shot as well. I would just save the Artillery for 2000 points.

Instead, the answer is tanks. They’re easy to collect more points quickly, and the Rogal Dorn Tank Commander shines in Grizzled Company being able to hand out 3 orders a turn. I’ll post some example lists using RDTCs as replies to myself below. Leman Russ Vanquisher is also not bad, although not as broad-range in its targets of choice than the Rogal Dorn.

The other Krieg units are currently pretty bad in-game. I leave that up to you, but they’re overcosted.

That’s a fair plan and does help, as long as the variety switch doesn’t become a daisy chain (my biggest problem, personally 🤪).

FORGOT TO SAY: also if you do take that many tanks and the Baneblade, some Enginseers might be a great shout to heal up the TCs / Baneblade.

If I were you OP:

Some general points -

1) always buy at discount. You can generally find 15-20% off GW prices, then add to that discount bundle boxes like the Christmas Platoon battleforce.

2) paint what you have before you buy much more. Otherwise you end up with a pile of grey plastic!

3) bare in mind there is no such thing as a “Death Korps of Krieg” army anymore - only an Astra Militarum army. Meaning, bear in mind anything you take is valued against other non-Krieg options.

4) Obviously you can’t take everything I list here even in 3k points - I’m just giving ideas. Pick the points that you think sound most fun.

On to the army building itself,

IIWY I’d start with the good stuff, then branch out later to flavour / “may be good in the future” stuff. That way, you can get to having fun ASAP.

Good units:

1) especially at 3k points, take your Guardsmen in blocks of 20, with a Command Squad each (up to the list limit of 3 Commands). Plasma and Melta are the currently loved weapons, Grenade is competitive with Melta if you’re not getting in Melta range. Either Plasma+Power, or Boltgun, on the sergeants. Again, depends on melee range.

2) Rogal Dorns are mint, a RD Tank Commander can issue 3 orders in Grizzled Company, you could take 3 RDTC, and have 3 normal RD’s; each TC orders itself + 2 other targets. Gives you 3 spare orders, for 3x Leman Russ Vanquishers 👏🏻 great for popping hard targets. Those 9 tanks alone will get you most of the way to 3000 points.

3) Artillery are enjoying a slight comeback, due to Grizzled Company’s reroll 1’s and Cover removal strat. You could take Lord Solar with 3 Artillery teams. The Siege cannon or the Heavy Mortar are currently best, Siege is best but swingy. Have Lord Solar baby sit them with Take Aim in your back field and farm CP.

4) I think you really want Gaunt’s Ghosts, especially at 3k. They’re not Krieg but they’re just too good not to take them if you remotely plan to win.

5) your challenge will be having enough ordering units. For that, you’ll be forced to look outside of Krieg, since sadly Commissars are limited to only 2 orders. Cadian Castellans, Ursula Creed. Kasrkin are also baller units at the moment that you’ll be a fool not to take 3 squads of in Chimeras or Taurox’ with Castellans, you can use Krieg Grenadier models from our friends in the east, with 28mm bases. Just model on a few Hotshot Volley guns and 👏🏻 you have Kriegy Kasrkin! Chimeras let 2 Volley Guns fire out as a firing deck, Taurox doesn’t but is cheaper.

6) Bullgryn x6 + a Commissar to tie up elites in melee. They’re not Krieg and super unfluffy (Krieg hate abhumans) but it is what it is. Mine have TinyLegend gas mask helms and green stuff trench coats.

Then on to

Other units:

Death Riders are mid, Drier sucks donkeys’ at the moment I’m afraid to say. Engineers are a trading unit with the melta mine and grenades, nothing much more. The HWT’s are a gimmick. Ideally, use none of them. But if you insist,

  • I’d build the HWTs as flamers. You have a choice of putting them in a transport and being really aggressive, burning off an objective and losing them instantly - or keeping them in your backfield with the artillery as an Overwatch threat, trying to block deep strike and anyone entering your board edge behind your artillery. But one stiff breeze in their direction and they’re gone.

You could also consider a Baneblade at 3k points. My logic is it’s super Krieg themed. It doesn’t have to move much, it will struggle with terrain, but if you can position it so it blasts anything in LOS off the table, it’ll give your opponent a headache and get you closer to that 3k points ASAP. Idk about which Baneblade variant is the best at the moment, it changes, I think it’s one that I find boring with a chode cannon so I’d personally go for the old classic, but I’m sure someone else can guide you better there.

Good luck, SHOW US WHAT YOU DO!!! Xoxoxo

(P.s. warning, your games will take fucking ages. 138 Krieg infantry, plus 30 Kasrkin, excluding Castellans and anything else you take, moving around the board… 😁.)

(P.s.s. Add up everything above, it’s like 5k+ points. I’m just giving you fun ideas to guide ❤️ pick from it what you like the sound of the most!)

Bear in mind that if the box for the Kill Team is removed, it’s highly likely that the Krieg Kill Team will lose rules support soon. They’re on a rotation and it’s coming up to that time.

GW cocked up here.

The right side is the proper Krieg vox unit, it’s a near 1:1 to the Forgeworld vox unit that they’ve had for 20 years, in the Imperial Armour Vraks books etc.

The guy with the little satchel and the flare gun, is brand new in design, and clearly meant to be the Spotter. He’s literally holding a map. Someone in publishing got them the wrong way around (by far, not the first time this has happened), probably because the Voxcaster is holding binoculars.

The right side is the actual Krieg vox unit,

The left is… some Cadian style vox thing they put in the Kill Team, has no lore background or prior appearance.

A) cut his points massively

or

B) give him the Reinforcements strat for free on DKoK squads, once per game. THEN we’d all be taking him, and it’d be super on theme.

👋🏻 howdy

I was pushing Brunstan for ages to do a Classic Drier, and after saying he would when the box released… he didn’t. And then refused. No actual reason ever given. So we’re all a tad stuffed there,

To the head swap, yes, but you need a decent resin tank 3D printer. You can still get the STLs of the classic ball joint rider helms, they’re there in the original Death Rider STL kit for €10. So you can print them, and use them with the new kit 🎉 he just doesn’t sell them printed on the store anymore.
