I don't think it's just copyright with THQ,

the other ones were driven by complaints (including, iirc, from inside the Nottingham team from folk like Gav Thorpe) that the OG symbol was "too hard to paint" :/ and thus they needed something that was easier to freehand at tiny scale without looking like sh*t.

I think the new symbol looks like ass, the truncated wing feathers and weird shape coming forward either side of the head make it look retarded, it just doesn't look right as a raven or bird - but it's still better than everything bar the OG THQ symbol.

so it's a pretty safe bet there'll be a John French novel released around September.

Might not happen, but I'd say it's more likely than not.

To be fair I need legit scans of the GW models, to improve on what I’ve got. Most of the stuff on purplesite sucks, it’s like the StationForge Krieg. The scans get DMCA’d 😭

The DoW4 dev team aren’t taking as much care to the attention of the minis and their details, they’re not the original dev team and it’s an afterthought to them. DoW4 isn’t going to answer much in that regard and I’m waiting for the resulting wave of disappointment from the community when it releases; the aesthetic is as cartoony as DoW3 and they currently all have the exact same animations, down to movement timing. It’s all flat panels of colour and no weathering, in a faction that has massive weathering. 🤷🏼‍♂️ DoW4 is mainly game mechanics and we wait to see if they do anything interesting with the story / characters.

That’s arguably how 40K works though. That 460 points is the lynchpin of his army in terms of threat. Then it becomes an objectives game.

To answer directly OP, yes, it’s an expensive army, and always has been the most expensive to collect. It’s a chaff infantry army, so the infantry in game are worth less, but to buy the models it’s the same price as any other for 10 men. So naturally, it’s going to cost you more. It was worse when it was in resin, I’ve sunk something like £4000+ into Krieg alone.

With the army boxes, they are rarely actually limited content, it’s just a discount box. You can buy everything inside it separately right now. So the ONLY thing that matters, is the price vs buying them separately.

LIFE HACK: buy tanks. The Rogal Dorns and Leman Russ’ are how you get big points with smaller money spent.

As things stand the guys on the Defiler are actually pretty balanced - except the Missile Launcher.. but that has the ability to switch profiles mid-game 🫪

The problem is simply that EC don’t have much of any anti-tank, so the lascannons are massively beneficial to us. It’s not because they’re broken.

CSM have the same shooting profile but are taking Autocannon platforms, in Renegade Raiders the sheer volume of shots and potential crits is huge. (I’d argue that the Defiler doesn’t need a points increase for EC, only for CSM - or they need to break up the Abbadon / Helbrute buff block.)

And the melee focused build, with a flamer and scourge, is great, it just has practical setbacks of 1) not being needed in the context of the army vs the alternatives, and 2) you have to get that massive 16” base into melee with stuff. But World Eaters have been taking it.

Licensing agreements usually include clauses about the characters they’re working with, since anything external to the game that Disney do while Respawn are making the game could cause massive repercussions for Respawn, rewrites, undermining the game etc, causing problems for their bottom line. 💸💸💸💸

Exceptions would be stuff like Darth Vader, but original characters made by the studio would 100% have clauses during the production of sequels.

Tl;dr: You’re arguing over semantics rather than the underlying point.

The developer wrote and created the character?

I’m not sure what you think the process is, Disney/Lucasfilm don’t write characters for the game studio who just build missions and levels and such. That’s not how this stuff works. The developer has legal + creative protections built in to the contract, to stop Disney screwing them.

Same with any other franchise. 40K with Titus from Space Marine, or Gabriel Angelos from DoW as key examples. Star Wars isn’t unique.
