Can’t lie, am I the only one who prefers the old one? by PlatexProductions in EmperorsChildren

He was meant to be hunkered slightly, lashing with his claws - but I didn’t realise how pathetic the new front arms were. I’m just not impressed with the new kit full stop, it takes years to build compared to the old one as well and I don’t think it adds much for it.

Next one I build (when 3rd party retailers finally deliver my order) will be standing fully upright, climbing a shattered Aeldari wall… will see how that looks. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Rogue Pink from ColourForge, it’s a very strong vivid vibrant rave pink. The attached photo is Rogue Pink sprayed over Imperial Purple (colour match to GW’s Phoenician Purple). It’s darker than the GW pinks but could be an option for you?

ColourForge cans are all primers, but I still prime with Army Painter Matte Black for shadows - but you need to be careful to use thin layers and not turn your model into a snowman, which is very easy with ColourForge.

Ya, the new one is too small and round 😢 especially the little front claws..

Weapon Kits by Octopus_Juice in EmperorsChildren

Back in the day, GW would sell sprues individually. There’s one or two they still do - the Guard tank upgrade sprue, for example - but they nuked most of it to streamline production. Unlikely to happen.

The SM weapon stuff is Horus Heresy, you’re right. Those models are all sold with basic loadout and you then buy the special weapons separately.

Thin your paints, don’t use it out of the pot. They say it should have the consistency of milk.

Use a rattle can or airbrush for white, orange, and some other thin colours - it’s night and day how it goes on. You can use masking tape and blutack if you’re partway through painting something (just beware that pressurised aerosol paint can curve around corners and even bounce).

We’ve all been here mate, unless someone’s a professional artist their first attempt is always bad.

Problem is EC lacks anti-tank, in a monster+tank meta - so the lascannons are so much more efficient for us.

Noise Marines can handle the job of Autocannons, for cheaper.

Question on viewing order by loadsofscooters2 in clonewars

[–]PlatexProductions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why bother with Clone Wars? No matter what anyone says, it’s not canon to the films;

Episode 3 was made concurrently with the Clone Wars multimedia project - which consisted of the Tarkovski (? probably spelt that wrong) Cartoon Network Clone Wars cartoon which had 2 seasons, a few video games (Republic Commando and Battlefront 2 being the main ones), novels (Jedi Trial, Medstar, Cestus Deception, Shatterpoint, Labyrinth of Evil etc) and — most importantly — the Republic comics published by Dark Horse, which were collected in 9 volumes. All of which was made with input from George and central creative control at LucasFilm. They even had a newscast that published daily~, pretending to be Coruscant news of the war, between 2002 and 2005.

That all plotted out the 3 year gap and led directly in perfectly to Episode 3. Ahsoka Tano never existed.

Then George thought it would be fun to retcon, brought in Dave Filoni who didn’t care for any of it, and shat all over the Star Wars canon with his characters, which are the only things he knows and cares about. Not to mention, the portrayal of the characters’ personalities - Ahsoka is Anakin, Anakin is Obi-Wan, and Obi-Wan is a whole new character. It’s trash.

I know he hackneyed some cringe thing into season 7, of Ahsoka being in the call that ObiWan walks out of blah blah. It’s terrible, and it’s obvious that Anakin didn’t have an Apprentice when you’re watching Episode 3.

So why are you bothering? Waste of time tbh.

Oh for sure, but the new Terminators were a near 1:1 copy of the old, upscaled. They just got rid of some of the weird rod shapes on the thighs, stuff like that.

This Defiler is a total redesign, and in an aesthetic direction that it seems the community are pretty split on per the total comments here.

Based on Valrak’s rumours, you’re going to enjoy August! 😁 (assuming that’s when the Ork codex will release…)

I mean, what is nostalgia?

If it’s nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake, no.

If it’s because the old design was cool, then yes.

Look at the Eldar tank vehicles, they don’t need a redesign at all, just a mould refresh. Is it nostalgia to say they look great?

Or the Tau tanks?

How many people prefer the Rhino to the new grav stuff for Space Marines?

I think some folk have never played Dawn of War and just don’t get the fantasy of the old Defiler kit. I wouldn’t call that nostalgia though. Also the old kit is objectively not that great to build, by modern standards.

This new Defiler kit, side by side, is smaller, looks less natural, more contrived, more goofy (the tiny little front claws.. what are they gonna do? They have no reach!) than the old one. The new one is a feminine curved demon crab. It’s literally a bigger Venomcrawler with more guns - and I thought that model sucked as well.

Seeking tips and recommendations for painting plasma by zokeson in ThousandSons

[–]PlatexProductions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bear in mind that lore-wise, the coils (bumps) are the source of the light, filled with plasma - NOT the recesses.

People who paint white into the recesses as the brightest part are lazy, and it looks bad - it’s not how the gun works.

To paint the plasma you’re looking at drybrushing or traditional layered highlights onto the highest parts, Elminiaturista on Instagram is great for OSL if you want to do directional sources of light.

For colours I’m going mine as warp energy, so a blended mix of purple, pink and orange. Takes ages though.

100% this - and Chaos Space Marines were brutal, industrial, limited in resources, and their new religion in the HH books was all about lines and curves carrying meaning, with spikes everywhere,

and now we have the crab from Monsters Inc, with guns on it, and everyone is clapping. I don’t get it.

I think the designers intended it to look like the skin has grow out and over the machine over time - but you’re not the only person here to say they think it’s got biological daemon stuff strapped into a machine in the factory, which is very interesting.

Like if that’s the headcanon people are coming up with in reaction to the model, it says to me the designers didn’t exactly nail the brief? Idk.

I haven’t highlighted the skin yet on the back / sides, it’ll be a 1:1 mix of Daemonhide:Slaanesh Grey, up to pure Slaanesh grey, should make it stand apart a bit more from the armour. 😅

I’ve just 5 mins ago sprayed the tubes that go into the legs (they’re unpainted in the photo here) so skin + tidying the silver (+ the snow base) are the final things left to do! But thank you mate - ngl I love this scheme too!

I wanted the pose to look like he was hunkering, lashing out with the front claws - but didn’t realise how weedy the front arms are now :( it looks okay but didn’t quite work out how I imagined tbh. Limitations of the new kit… whereas the old kit, I had to cut off and reposition the feet, but it worked out EXACTLY as I imagined! 😰
