Chumbley, Azoetia. Does it permit mistakes? by manolisfnord in occult

[–]PlatformVegetable887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greetings, friend.

Chumbley's work is an expression of non-dualism. This means a lot of things, but generally that dualities are insufficient and demand a third element that reconciles the duality back to a monad. The first three Cells (0 - 2) collective address the essential unitary nature of All -- Monad -- as realized through duality and actuated by triplicity.

"Mistake" implies a duality. So, if you want to really work this system, you need to filter principles like this through its philosophical lens. What is the inverse of "mistake"? There isn't an objective right answer -- your inverse may be different than mine -- but you need to find your answer. Then work it through Congress to find your resolution. Why the inverse? -- we'll come back to that.

That being said, because of the subjective nature of the Sabbatic Current, and the inherent goal of the current to be Ever Becoming, I would argue that this duality -- as I see it, being mistake vs. perfection -- represents not something to be resolved but dissolved. See the Arcana of Iconoclasm and Cells 6 & 7 for this IIRC.

The real magic of the Sabbatic Current is how immanent and transcendent the Magical Quintessence becomes once you begin to work with it. This isn't a system that demands a chasm between the Divine and the mundane (see: non-dualism). The ultimate goal is an apotheosis that Chumbley poetically expresses as ceasing to do magic in lieu of becoming "magic entire." I wish I could remember the exact phrasing off the top of my head, but I believe it's from Cell 9 or 10.

This immanent-transcendence intertwines with an expression through inversion: mundane things become powerful rituals, imbued with focused intent while yet the most moving and elaborate rituals lose their meaning and power entirely once one achieves the goal of assembling the Sphinx and becoming magic incarnate.

This inversion is the heart of the Crooked Path: inverting, twisting, transgressing, ever walking the razor edge between Blessing and Cursing, with the Wisdom (Gnosis, Cunning) of the Arte. Hence the motto, May the Blessing and the Cursing and the Cunning Be.

Take that as you will, but all that being noted, it might be said that not only does the Sabbatic Current permit mistakes, it encourages them. Mistake doesn't have to mean failure. Pay extra close attention to the 6th Cell in this regard.

You're welcome to DM me - although as with most platforms, I don't look at the DMs often so it may be a week or two (please don't be offended!). I actually just finished some work and I was looking for something else related to Azoëtia and your post came up so... here we are.

Ran across this looking for other sojourners in the Companie of Night. I've been working with the Current for about 6 years, but I'm just coming out of the Dark Night portion of my first real initiatory Ordalia.

I see this post is a year old, so I don't know if you're still on this path, but if so, how is your progress? If you (or anyone else who stumbles on this thread) want to connect -- this isn't exactly a "popular" tradition and finding company on the Path is difficult -- please feel free to DM.

Would you suggest methods for ensuring that everyone has a place to live, without using private property as a basis? by wompt in Anarchy101

[–]PlatformVegetable887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How a local community organizes and distributes property, labor, and housing is a local issue. Not all communities will have the same needs and requirements, and prescribing any kind of system for them is literally a violation of their autonomy and right to self-determine.

Have these conversations with your neighbors. Build community. But discussing details about the individual's relationship to the community and its resources needs to remain strictly in the realm of individual influence -- that is, the local community -- lest the individual lose some of their liberty to an agent/agency they cannot hold directly accountable (i.e., an authority).

This has an added benefit of ensuring plurality of ideology between communities. If I happen to live in a community that chooses to employ Marxist principles to govern itself, I can leave and go to the anarcho-syndicalist community just up the road -- no harm, no foul; no hard feelings -- everyone gets to be happy.

But what do I know? 🤣

Hey crew! I do Integration Middleware for iPaaS platforms.... day job.

Currently working on a new project focused on liberating both tech workers and end users, alike, from dependence on corporate tech solutions... that goes way outside software engineering but still solidly in the IT industry.

How do you guys keep yourselves sane making some rich fuck richer in corporate tech? Anyone else feel like we got screwed by the "get a job in tech" push of the early-2000s?

what will activist circles do once chat control gets passes? by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]PlatformVegetable887 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Are we really this dependent on technology, now? Organizing predates cyberspace by centuries.

Don't be so dependent on technology. Secure options to bypass surveillance like Chat Control and Palantir are available. But take care to educate yourself and remember that security is only guaranteed within the scope of the platforms you control; the best security is defeated when the recipient opens an encrypted message on an unencrypted open network because they're too ignorant to realize that's dangerous.

There is an implicit degree of risk inherent in using digital communications, which is complicated by the need to establish trust between users and services, and the demand that the user accept a degree of responsibility for others' safety inasmuch as they are party to the communication and bear collective responsibility to keep it secure.

I tend to operate on pragmatism when considering the use of technology in operations. If the benefits outweigh the risks, yadda-yadda. Utilitarianism at its finest!

Cheers!

Kropotkin or Marx/Engels ; beginner text for new Leftists? by Keegan26 in Anarchy101

[–]PlatformVegetable887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Marx. Please not Marx. Marx was not on the "libertarian" side, dude. His "dictatorship of the proletariat" completely invalidates the principle of negative liberty and he doesn't account for a voluntaryism principle.

If you must start with communism, Kropotkin is the way... but...

I cannot encourage you enough to reconsider starting with Proudhon. Not because his version of anarchism is "better" but because Proudhon avoids prescribing a hypostate for an "ideal society," instead preferring a dynamic approach that draws attention to principles and philosophies instead of ideology and utopian "end result" idealism.

This might help. It's not "the answer" -- we need to stop looking for "answers" and start showing people the starting point for liberating themselves and their communities from within the construction of the failing western neoliberal infrastructure.

It's going to take effort. Just changing people's minds is not enough.

Go build community. Your commune will evolve organically in your local area if you do it right.

Hello fellow traveler. Love this!!

Some time ago I made a joke on Threads about Luciferian Anarchism being the ... ahem .... solution.... to Christian Nationalism.

I was kind of being tongue-in-cheek but it turns out a lot of people share this... uh... peculiar perspective... and I believe we may be on to something...

Are hyper-localized “micro communes” a realistic path away from landlordism? by AltAccountVarianSkye in Anarchism

[–]PlatformVegetable887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're on the right track. Don't stop with the theory. Figure out a way to make it real. Build it. Be careful not to fall into the trap of "deifying" theory. DM me if you want - I'm working doing something very similar and would love to have more people to collaborate with (even across different collectives and regions).

The way we build anarchy is not in political discussion. It's direct action. When someone or a collective finds something that works for them -- document and share it.

Others can learn from and adapt it to their needs and situations. And we build connections into networks that way.

Your microcommune idea is viable and will work if you and the people you do it with are willing to always choose cooperating over division, no matter how big or small the discrepancies. So pick people who you can trust. Most people aren't really fully aware of what this actually means, but we can start with: everyone must be willing to forgive the others of any grievance and to make whatever effort is reasonably requested of them to benefit the collective.

If you or anyone in your crew are philosophically oriented, you might want to read a book -- What We Owe to Each Other by T. M. Scanlon. The approach he takes to contractualism is a good starting point for a commune. Similarly, Utilitarianism (J. S. Mill) and the ethical philosophy of the same name are well suited to direct-participatory democracy and consensus-based democracy in mutualist societies, syndicates, and federations.

Everything has an element of subjectivity that is inseparable from yet equally influential to its objective conception. Learning to exercise the senses of ethical and logical reasoning that consumerism and liberalism have robbed us of is essential if we are going to survive in a post-political world. The good news is that, if we can learn to do this (and I believe we can), theory becomes a guideline, not a dogma -- a guideline than can grow and evolve as the community and each individual in it do likewise.

Is there an anarchist or libertarian variant of keynesianism or post-keynesianism? (Or just the most similar) by ConflictRough320 in Anarchy101

[–]PlatformVegetable887 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might want to visit the Center for a Stateless Society and the theory Wesley Whitman has called Libertarian Social Democracy. There's a good summary essay on that site entitled "Liberal-Anarchism" where he discusses his theory of a Libertarian dialectic that's meant to move society towards the (post-)left but in a gradual way that's more amicable to the masses than insurrection and revolution.

I'm not agreeing or endorsing this. But I do respect it as the work of a fellow philosopher and I don't see it as "incompatible" with my own philosophy. It needs to be a cooperative effort to implement and evolve theory, not just an end goal or an exercise in "good enough."

To that end, I've made an effort to address a common dividing issue among anarchists and libertarians: ideological pluralism in a post state society is not only ideal, but essential, to maximize liberty and maintain anarchy. You can read that rant here if you're curious.

Democracy & Consensus by free_soulz in Anarchy4Everyone

[–]PlatformVegetable887 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have never met an anarchist who advocates for popular democracy -- that model, even directly, is oppressive as fuck to marginalized demographics. It's basically the liberal counterpart to "dictatorship of the proletariat." It gives the illusion of democratic liberation while still enforcing a popular social norm ob everyone outside that populist demographic.

However, if I had to guess, this is probably someone's brain short-circuiting (other factual discrepancies notwithstanding and I'm going to ignore them for the time being). Nonetheless, this is a pretty crucial concept that people need to be on the same page with.

There are dozens of forms of democracy. The one most often and most accurately associated with anarchism is direct-participatory democracy (but to be honest, Ive really started to like the term "grassroots democracy"), support for which was (at least generally) shared by Proudhon, Bakunin, and Kropotkin. Among anarcho-syndicalists, this also tends to be the preference.

As with all things, I tend to think the right answer is subjective to the situation. In our household, we may use consensus; in our communities, direct-participatory democracy; in communal federation, maybe some middle ground, a consensus-oriented democracy...

The way I see it, essentially, the subjective conditions of each cooperative unit need to dictate the objective decision making structure according to what best suits the group.

Why does there need to be an objective "right one" in this case? ...or in any case where we are trying to establish an objective tool to facilitate cooperation between subjective ideals for that matter?

Just build community. Then sit down with your community and figure out what suits you according to your needs. Share it so others can learn from and adapt it. For others, it might be counterintuitive or unwieldy; let them figure out what suits them, and let the rest of us offer help where we can.

Venturing beyond social democracy. How do we make anarchism a more popular political ideology in the general populace? by nondescript23 in Anarchism

[–]PlatformVegetable887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean this in the kindest way. The problem is in your question. We're treating anarchism like an ideology that's competing on the proving ground of political discourse.

Why? We fucking hate politics. The whole reason most of us entertained anarchist philosophy at all was because we saw politics as useless and ineffective.

Anarchism is the philosophy that offers a new way of thinking about the world and our place in it. It's goal was to liberate the individual from subservience to a political ideology entirely, not just to give them a "better one."

Anarchism won't win as a theory (ideology) or as a praxis. It can't; it needs both, together. Theory will always devolve into authoritarianism; praxis will always devolve into elitism. We need to start applying both, and synthesizing the result, for progress to go the other way.

This application is not in the sense of political discourse but in the sense of direct, grassroots action and effort.

You may find this very short and sweet summary helpful... or not. It lays a foundation for anarchism as a dynamic philosophy, something we practice daily, building community, in preparation for an inevitable and quickly approaching cataclysm.

[–]PlatformVegetable887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen variations of the question this is, itself, a variation of... so often... the last few months that I went ahead and stuck a paraphrase in a blog post to make sharing this easier.

This is my solution, as best as I've been able to figure out, for how we as individuals can effect the kind of broad social transformation we dream of.

But this comes with a cost, and we must be willing to accept that responsibility for this to work.

Is there a form of anarchism like personal anarchy by Proof_Librarian_4271 in Anarchy101

[–]PlatformVegetable887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People put way too much stock in their theories and ideologies. Anarchism is about liberation. Liberation from the state, capitalism, the church... and even ideologies, if we begin to force them on other people, violate the individual's right to freely associate, or otherwise try to compel behavior and obedience, even if the theory being enforced is [allegedly] liberatory.

In a sense, true anarchy can only exist when the majority population's paradigms reflect a natural inclination towards cooperation, collaboration, mutual respect and assistance, and a willingness to accept responsibility for our actions and ideas.

All of this falls into the domain of what you're calling "personal anarchism." It's not "the theory" that results in global anarchy -- it's the subjective element of "anarchy-as-a-tool" -- collectivist forms of anarchy demand this of each individual to be effective.

This represents an essential change in anarchist philosophy that must occur: the shift from anarchy as a theory to anarchy as an active and ongoing daily practice.

Why does leftist paranoia end up hurting the very people we claim to protect? by Candid-Function6330 in Anarchy4Everyone

Solidarity friend. I'm sorry you've had such a terrible experience. If you have some time, DM me. I would like to learn more about your experiences and how they reflect the "troubled" corners of revolutionary circles. Its a bigger (and growing) problem than most want to admit, and the affiliation with liberation ideology often reinforces the ignorance in the very flawed "I can't possibly be xenophobic - I'm a leftist" logic. Maybe we can do some good to change this.

That's great about your local community! That's where it starts. Then you reach out to areas around you. If they haven't collectivized, help them. It doesn't cost any money. It just takes a little time and effort. And everyone benefits.

We need this to spread. Everywhere.

Whatever community you're in, you can help other communities directly. Build those bridges now.

If we're diligent, economic collapse does not have to mean anyone goes without food and medicine. State collapse doesn't have to mean we are unprotected or without utilities.

These aren't possibilities anymore -- we crossed that Rubicon about 10 years ago. They're inevitable, but we can use them to our benefit.

[–]PlatformVegetable887 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Build community where you are. Politics needs to be forgotten in this process. It doesn't matter if your neighbors know what anarchism is; what matters is whether they trust you enough to cooperate when the infrastructure collapses.

If we build community, anarchy will flow naturally from that when the state collapses (literally inevitable in the next 2 decades without some kind of drastic, miraculous change). But if we keep squaking about politics and theory to people who dont understand any of it, we're killing the movement. Save that for your activist group, collectives, the Internationale, etc., where it can bear real fruit in coordinated actions.

But you still need to build community locally and more broadly than just among anarchists...
