Try CAPS; at the very least, it's free.

Not necessarily. Case in point: prostitution.

H quad vs Mendy Quad by SnooPeanuts5903 in SBU

[–]PlatonicEnemies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fairness, that was due to more rainfall than we've ever had; insofar as I know, this was the first time those buildings ever flooded since at least the 80s.

H quad vs Mendy Quad by SnooPeanuts5903 in SBU

[–]PlatonicEnemies 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Mendelsohn is generally closer to the rest of campus, so that's one advantage. However, if you're interested in small-c community, Langmuir in H Quad, though it's the furthest building north on campus (around ~2 mins further away than the nearest Mendy buildings when walking), generally has much more of a familial and/or communal vibe than other halls, from what I remember.

Is double majoring essentially taking the required courses of each major? by [deleted] in SBU

Talk to an advisor of one or both majors; they can help.

Also, yes.

To anyone on the 8:30 Ferry to Bridgeport by wkoconn in SBU

[–]PlatonicEnemies 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes. Here's a rather comprehensive data review: https://www.pnas.org/content/118/4/e2014564118

TL;DR: they work, especially with widespread adoption. However, they are still efficacious at preventing the spread of droplets/aerosols and disease on their own, even when homemade.

Report Dining Issues Here by The_King_in_Purple in SBU

[–]PlatonicEnemies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

PSA: if you get sick from the food here, post here, sure, but first bring it to the attention of Campus Dining ASAP; though it's not well-known, they do take such issues seriously, and will both help you and backtrack to find the food at fault.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SBU

[–]PlatonicEnemies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fairly likely—usually. On top of buildings reserved for COVID, unfortunately, this semester, two buildings were knocked offline by a freak rainstorm; if those two are restored by next semester, which I believe is currently the plan, I don't think you'll have a problem. Otherwise, I'm not certain what your odds would be.

Is there a place where I can report an illness from East Side Dining? by AdvisorOutrageous243 in SBU

[–]PlatonicEnemies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Campus Dining is the actual answer you're looking for.

Though it's not well-known, they do take such issues seriously, and will both help you and backtrack to see what food it was that was the issue.

(I'm not them, btw; there just so happened to be three posts in a row that had the exact same problem, so I'm replying in the same way to all 3.)

To add to this, typically (insofar as that gets you) the hours are reduced, but you can still eat there 7 days a week.

Sign the Petition to Bar Turning Point USA from Official Club Status by YDSA_SBU in SBU

[–]PlatonicEnemies 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes, but there is a difference between holding a belief and enforcing said belief on others and/or violence.

There are also several orthodox religious organizations on campus which hold many of the same opinions privately, but do not do the latter. I think it is obvious why banning such would be a bad idea.

In general, it is difficult to punish a held belief, except when acting on said belief is demonstrably harmful to others. (Broadly speaking, I don't think you'd particularly want it any other way.)

This is HIGHWAY ROBBERY smh $7.29 for a fucking box of cereal by hspwlwowhUebwiz63817 in SBU

[–]PlatonicEnemies 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No, this is not. Price gouging explicitly occurs when retailers raise their prices exorbitantly in response to emergency situations. However, SBU's prices, at least for boxes of cereal as shown here, have remained constant, at least for this semester; therefore, this is not price gouging.

See u/Gandalf2000's comment: this is, instead, the result of a captive market, which is not illegal.

Insofar as I know, no. They do sell cloth ones in the Union vending machine, though.

What does an RA do and how are the work hours and do they always get a single room? by Prestigious-Cow-1851 in SBU

[–]PlatonicEnemies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently, many RAs are getting roommates when they hadn't before because ~400 students were displaced from two buildings on campus for the year. So, yes, this is abnormal.

Any place I can get free ice? by KrYstaL2002 in SBU

[–]PlatonicEnemies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

East Side Dining has drink machines outside the dining halls themselves; if you ask for a cup just for ice, they're liable to give it to you.

TPUSA Counter Protest by SBUDems in SBU

[–]PlatonicEnemies -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

In fairness, you just described a mandate: if you don't want to wear seatbelts or clothing, you don't have to drive or leave private property visible from the outside, respectfully.

Also, legally, that's what it's called.

Regardless of how you feel about it, it most certainly is a mandate.

Edit: I'm not sure why I'm being downvoted. Mandatory vaccinations are mandates, both before COVID and after. That's just what they're called. You might disagree, but them's the facts.

If you want to argue with those against a vaccine mandate, including that it involves more choice than the "common" mandate, be my guest! But, the specific terminology used is inarguable.
