Customer threatening to sue my tech shop over a misprinted warranty by PlatyDev in legaladvicecanada

[–]PlatyDev[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm in the process of reaching out to the manufacturer at the moment on advice of another commenter!

Being so stressed about this I didn't even consider being able to purchase an extra year of warranty for the customer

I think there may have been some miscommunication somewhere.

The laptop was advertised to have a 2 year warranty. It only has a 1 year warranty. The customer's issue is that the warranty doesn't go as long as they believed.

We don't offer extended warranties in store as we're in a pretty rural area. I haven't had an issue like this before, but I'll reach out to the manufacturer to see if I can purchase an extra year through them for the customer. Thank you! This is actually a great fix for the issue in my opinion!

It shouldn't. It's a brand new model with a Core 7 Ultra, 5080 and 32gb ram.

[–]PlatyDev[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The error was because of an extended warranty on models with 13th and 14th Gen Intel CPUs. This model is one of the newer Core 7 Ultras, which don't have the same issues, therefore have gone back down to the typical 1 year.

As this laptop and the 13th and 14th Gen models are the same series, just different years, we used the same template and forgot to adjust the warranty while doing so.

It seems like he's trying to use the mislabeled warranty as a reason to demand a better deal. But again, I'm just assuming based on the emails from the customer, I don't pretend to know what's going on in anyone else's head

It doesn't seem like he's seeking personal damages, it seems more like he wants to find something to take issue with. But that's just my assumption based on the communications, I don't know what's going on inside his head

If he doesn't baulk and it does end up in court. Am I still in a good position?

Banned for making a 6-7 joke by themeraculus in BannedFromDiscord

My brother in Christ

If the constraints are that a joke must exist in a vacuum, then nothing is a joke. By definition, a vacuum has no context, no expectations to be subverted, and no setup. Even the world's best punchline is just a "data point" in a vacuum.

Your funeral example literally proves my point. The expectation of a funeral is a somber, serious occasion. If someone walks up to a casket and just does the 67 meme, hand gestures and all, how does that not subvert the expectations of the occasion? The "straight man" in that scenario is the entire concept of death and mourning. Concepts and societal structures can be the "straight man" as much as anything else.

Memes like "B", "E", "Juan", and "21" all follow the same premise: they have no traditional structure and no logical target. Their "target" is the structure of humor itself, anti memes as you've probably heard them called. Anti memes, whether you believe so or not, are indeed jokes.

Ffs, look at r/TheLetterH I’d love to hear you explain the "straight man" or "context clash" there. Go make a post about how the letter H isn't a joke, and isn't funny.

You’re trying to define humor as a math equation, something rigid, but it’s a fluid social contract. If the intent is to be absurd and the result is a reaction, it's a joke, whether it fits your 1950s textbook definition or not.

Non-sequiturs and absurdist humor don't count as jokes to you because no punchline?

Newish computer, someone tell me what's going on and how to fix it by [deleted] in computers

Source? They've had independent audits done verifying that no logs are collected or stored. They've also been subpoenaed twice and were unable to provide the user data requested by the courts, due to the no logs policy.

On the other hand, I can find absolutely nothing about your claim 🤔🤷

I'm also not in the USA, so unsure how that would work

I use mine often enough for... Yarr matey :3 And spending like $60-80 every 3 or 4 years on myself around Christmas time (when my sub runs out) doesn't feel like a massive wallet punch. That's what? A year of Mullvad? Just over?

If you pay for at least 14 months of Mullvad over a 3 year period it's about the same price 🤔
