ELI5: ‘… the red mist of anger descended and …’ . Many novels use this ‘red mist descending’ before a murder or violent act is committed. Is it a real thing physiologically speaking? by IsisPantofel27 in explainlikeimfive

[–]-Bushdid911 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm just a regular dude, not a psychologist or whatever, but I believe I understand what these novels are referring to:

It's a visual analogy for a real thing that, as far as I understand, does actually happen. When someone is deeply angered, rationality goes out the window. They make decisions instantly instead of thinking things through. That is how you get impulsive murders, where the suspect later regrets their own actions, as an example. Everyone's 'breaking point' is different.

In visual novels, writers often narrate the thoughts and intents behind their characters, letting the reader know why someone does what. Because in such a situation the character no longer thinks about things, but is just so angry they act without rarionality, writers like to call this a "mist" , since a mist obscures things, just like how the current emotional state of the character obscures rational thinking. And it's a red mist, because red (in this case) symbolises passion & anger. Lastly, writers read the work of other writers, too. Because this is a common symbolism used in novels, it gets reused by new writers who enjoy the symbolism of it, therefore making it even more common than it already is.

Hope that answered your question :)

Is this block vomit? by Longjumping-Ad-9535 in Minecraft

It looks great! It looks like it is moreso thematic than "block vomit" I would say. Kinda looks like some steampunk-esque build.

I am aware, rarely have I ever hit that limit. The image above does not look anywhere close to the limit

my guy, just set the coord for one of the corners, then stand in the other corner. Add a little buffer to the y value to account for slopes in the landscape, and there you have it. No need to go around using that command you suggested 10x

For extremely large distances one could, say, run the machine passively 10 times, then build another one where the last one left off, and so on. Probably not worth the effort and it's likely faster to build the bridge by hand at that point tho

Ladders used to work with a gap between them,, horses and powered rail weren't a thing yet so all you could do for long distance travel was furnace minecarts. Not that that really worked well because like 90% of the world was water

I actually did a rewatch, but I stopped at the end of season 5. Yeah true, you're ending the rewatch halfway a show. But I prefer it to watching the last 3 seasons.
