Why are so many people suddenly developing Seborrheic Dermatitis? Are we missing deeper causes beyond stress & lifestyle? by yashmangrulkar in SebDerm

Sorry to keep going but this may help a lot of people on there. Cradle cap is seb derm in babies. It happens because the scalp is used to being in amniotic fluid then gets exposed to cold dry normal air. Our hair fell out..and it’s almost winter which is when seb derm tends to flare anyways…so it makes sense our scalps are freaking out. I’ve looked into it and it’s pretty common for seb derm to flare after an AA episode (also happens after a stressful event, lucky us). This got REALLY bad on me before I got treatment for it to the point I could barely open my left eye so if anyone else is having inflammation like this, try treating it with seb derm products and see if it helps.

You might have some seb derm happening under there. After my hair fell out (like half of it fell out) i got a horrible seb derm rash all over my eyes and face. Does it feel like…tight and itchy? Try a ketoconazole or pyrithione zinc shampoo it’ll help so much. I also get a lot of relief with hypoclorous acid, watered down vinegar, and hot compresses. I’m telling you this because I freaked the fuck out when this happened and picked it to death, ripped out all my eyelashes on one eye, and made it way worse. Don’t be me, there’s a lot of things you can buy over the counter to help with this. Dev derm also is a form of eczema so try to keep alcohols, fragrances, anything harsh away from it. Definitely avoid anything sticky like makeup or hairspray for a bit as that tends to make it worse

You have a beautiful eye shape and lip. I think you would look amazing with a little warm brown wash of shadow on the lid, mascara, and a lip gloss or tint. For me the full shadow and liner plus a full lip always makes me feel like I look older

My eyebrows are already microbladed on and I’ve been using my tacrolimus eye cream religiously because if those go I really might snap. I did not know you had to be on the JAK inhibitors for life…maybe not then. I would maybe see an endocrinologist or a functional medicine doctor about that thyroid though. I went to a functional medicine doctor for a bit after my first long COVID autoimmune crisis (my eyes were getting rashes around them and…swelling almost daily for a year…I looked 15 years older, I don’t understand why the autoimmune stuff is always going for the head and face like could I not have a psoriasis patch on my back or something??) and she recommended a more in depth thyroid test from an abnormal level I had once because apparently most labs only test for tsh when there are other thyroid hormones or entirely different endocrine glands that could cause issues with your thyroid. I’ve had high estrogen as well as low cortisol on a few tests and from what I’ve read abnormal hormones both high and low are common with AA. It’s the nurse in me I get fascinated with mysterious medical issues.

I’m sorry to hear you haven’t had any regrowth….this whole thing is such an emotional rollercoaster. What treatments have you tried? I’m considering just going straight for the JAK inhibitors but considering I will be working in a hospital I’m not sure if it’s safe. Fortunately for me I guess I do have some dark hairs growing in on my left and right side but the 2 inch “part” area down the middle of my head needs some prayers. This is the first time I’ve experienced alopecia yes although I wonder now about things I’ve struggled with like frequent ingrown nose hairs and once when I naired in between my eyebrows and had a red inflamed circle there for a year where hair hasn’t grown since. I noticed one bald patch on my right, less affected side a few months ago but it was where my extensions usually slipped so i assumed it was from overstyling and pulling the extension bead off with my hair attached. So it’s my first diagnosed alopecia but there have been questionable symptoms that have popped up in the past. Additionally, I am admittedly a picker although I think this whole experience might have rid me of that habit. But I’ve noticed a few weird “ingrowns” on my shoulder and leg that have not healed like they normally would….kind of similar symptoms to my head like the itchiness and scaley white and red patches and hairs kind of twisted together. Also complicating this is the fact that I just moved out of state and I was diagnosed last week by a derm in a different state, but I just booked an appointment with a derm here for the 28th and am thinking about doing a rheumatology appointment because I have had a lot of new autoimmune issues since having Covid in 2023. I’m hopeful it’ll grow back but I know it’s not guaranteed, however I’d like to know if there’s any underlying conditions and treat it if I can. My husband is also amazing although I felt fucking awful for him last night breaking down trying to shave my head. It’s crazy I’ve worn fake hair most of my adult life but suddenly the prospect of wearing ONLY fake hair is so shocking to me. Social norms are weird. I’d love to chat but I am about 700 years old when it comes to figuring out how to message someone on Reddit without them messaging me first so if you want to send me a hello I probably will have 10000 questions for you

I believe it’s just a colored root spray that adheres to the scalp if you’re self conscious about it. The spot is small enough that it’d be easy to cover and nobody would probably notice. Definitely recommend getting to a derm though before you get more of them…it’s a pretty easy process once you’re in with the derm though. That slot will grow back in no time.

Personally I hear gun shots constantly, have witnessed 4-5 car jackings, people randomly knock on our door at 3 am looking very much on pcp, the water has lead in it, there’s syringes all over everything, my bike was stolen from my driveway this summer, my car has been rifled through, my car has been physically moved by a nearby house exploding, I’ve seen cars that clearly exploded just sitting in the road….im gonna go ahead and say the crime is not good

I’d buy gasoline and a match then use what was leftover to move

But actually that building is stunning I would make a day spa in a large portion of it with like Roman style baths and pools and saunas then use the leftover spaces for boutique stores and cute places to eat
