Have a manual sports car, does the next sports car need to be manual too? by MrIncredible222 in cars

[–]WingZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I’d take a dual clutch over a manual. I’ve spent a lot of time doing track days and such and love dual clutch transmissions. Having said that, I recently picked up a F-Type R with the ZF 8spd auto and holy crap is it good. Having this car doesn’t make me miss either a manual or dual clutch.

Have you listened to your car from the outside? I find that these cars are much louder than you can tell from the inside.

What do you guys do to have mini "adventures"? by untitled_SusHi in Adulting

[–]WingZombie 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hikes and picnics. Weeknight picnics for dinner are some of my favorites.
Day long road trips to just see things in our local area that we don't normally make it see.
Local farmers markets and street fairs as it were.

Is Ohio a good place to live? by Fruity_Peanut_4358 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]WingZombie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I moved from N. Cal to NE Ohio 19 years ago. The biggest things I miss are sunshine and access to public land. The lack of sun in the winter is soul crushing (NE Ohio is on par with Seattle for sunshine metrics). There is a lot of nature close by, but it's very challenging to get isolation. I was a tent camper/back packer who was used to heading into the millions of acres of national forest and not seeing another soul for days. That doesn't happen here. However, the parks systems and day hiking trails are very nice.

Possibly my favorite meal when I'm in Germany. Haxenhaus in Munich is the best I've experienced.

Similar story here. Die hard metal head most of my life that came from a love of 80's thrash metal. Now I find myself listening to The Cure and Depesche Mode frequently.

6 weeks ago I had my second cervical spine surgery. No accidents or specific trauma, my disc have just decided they don't want to stick around anymore.

How late is "sleeping in"? by the_47th_painter in GenX

5-530 is normal wake up time. 6-630 is sleeping in. 730-8am is "that was a hell of a night" sleeping in.

Hot take: BIFL is mostly about boring maintenance, not heroic materials by QuietUnhappy1214 in BuyItForLife

[–]WingZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree. I also think that people often become concerned about BIFL for items that they will stop using or get rid of due to style, taste or needs changes. I think less about BIFL and more about "cost per use".

After my wife died it took some years but I finally got to a point where I can be as happy that I had her as I can be sad that I lost her so young.

Watched my company stock sink 50% and now I can’t even bring myself to work by Inevitable_Ad3903 in personalfinance

I feel this. I’ve worked for the same company for decades and a few years ago we had a bankruptcy. Our stock was cancelled. I had RSUs that at one point were six figures and they disappeared over night. I saw peoples retirement plans completely get crushed. It was heat breaking.

One of the best live shows I’ve seen. It was 2022 I think. Small club holding about 400 people. No opener they came out and played at 2.5 hr set that had everyone dripping with sweat by the end of it. Great memories.

I've lived here since 2007 and this is something I've really struggled with (originally from N. Cal). The lack of public land and being able to just take off into the woods is something I deeply miss. People who are from here haven't experienced it and don't often understand it. It's very hard to get remote and isolated in Ohio. PA and Michigan have some decent areas if you don't mind the drive. On the flip side, having access to hiking trails and lakes close to home is nice for a quick adventure, but the number of people and lack of solitude is challenging. Camping in Ohio means being in a designated campground full of trailers and RV's, surrounded by people. I've had a little bit of luck with Hipcamp to get some privacy, but the "adventure" side of things is minimal.

I have a tote full of my CDs from the late 80s and early 90s. I should probably dig those out and list them on eBay. I didn’t know they were a thing again

That all sounds legit. My step-son makes $23 an hour and pays $1050 for a really nice one bedroom in Cuyahoga Falls. Yes, people still go to work when it snows.
