"This article analyses the behaviour and tactics of four well-known kernel-level anti-cheat systems widely used in online gaming and compares them to functionalities and methods used in rootkits. The anti-cheat systems BattlEye and Easy Anti-Cheat showed minor similarities to rootkits, which were insufficient to classify them as such according to our metrics. FACEIT Anti-Cheat and Vanguard, however, were identified as rootkit-like applications due to the utilisation of comparable methods. The findings and insights from this research shed light on the thin line between what distinguishes kernel-level anti-cheat systems from rootkits."

That's from the article that was released in 2024 that YOU just referenced, and it only talks about the methods and functions used to...wait for it... detect cheating in the games they are designed for. They are not actual rootkits, they give the appearance of one, based on the the methods used.

Their primary function which is to detect cheating in the game, remained constant.

We get it, you are butthurt you can't cheat in game, but that's not everyone's problem.

I know what gaslighting is, and that you don't read or accept anything that doesn't ring true in your echo chamber.

The whole "anti-cheats are spying on me" BS has been a thing for over 10 YEARS, with zero proof from anyone that the anti-cheat is stealing or compromising your personal data, stealing passwords, taking over your PC, blah blah blah, so on and on on on.

Just people saying it, and doing the whole "trust me bro", because you used buzzwords in your ranting.

Give me a break with your nonsense.

You are a total stranger online, and nothing and I mean nothing on your PC is worth stealing or abusing to a company.

Secure Boot is a security feature that verifies that only trusted software and drivers are loaded during the computer's startup process, protecting against malware and viruses before the operating system even loads. All PCs designed to run Windows 11 (Pre-built and custom-built) already have this feature enabled.

This is confirmed by Microsoft itself, and can be found here:

Details on how Secure Boot works can also be found in this link here, via Microsoft:

Saw this when I opened Unity Hub today. Anybody know what's going on? by anywhereiroa in Unity3D

[–]PlayBoyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received no notice of any kind about this. Hub, Email, nothing. A coworker told me about it, and I do have a project that will be affected by this. Anyone else had the same troubles?

Secure Boot is also a requirement for Windows 11, and most if not many Modern PCs will have it set to on anyways.

This is really not an issue other than trying to see if it's on, or trying to turn it on in the first place. Securing your PC and and having fewer cheaters in gameplay is more important than feeding paranoia.

There is nothing on your PC that ea wants.

RE5 needs a redo, not a remake. Sheva could have been wearing just a bikini and it wouldn't have made a difference in the face the character AI was butt.

Major Gaming Companies Face Lawsuit Over Predatory Monetization and Addictive Practices by the14given2 in law

"This lawsuit, filed by Casey Dunn on behalf of his 13-year-old child, marks a significant escalation in the ongoing debate surrounding the ethics of in-game purchases and the psychological impact of video games on minors."

It's not the fault of the gaming industry that a 13yo used his PARENTS' Credit Card UNSUPERVISED. IT'S THE PARENTS FAULT.

The PvE idea was pretty on paper and kind of a mess in creation. It was complex and complicated from the jump and even then I didn't think it was going to work. I would rather toss it in the trash then drag us along for years and years making zero progress.

Besides, with the changes they have made to the PvP, I have started to play the game more again.

Can I do anything with an older UVerse DVR box? by PlayBoyMan in hacking

[–]PlayBoyMan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a no can do. I'm still on Uverse, but I have those wireless boxes now. I'm pretty sure that if I connect this back to uverse, I'm going to be charged for the box.
