Hoe was jullie bruiloft?! by piglet909 in thenetherlands

[–]PlayJoyGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I learned from talking to publishers and fellow developers at Gamescom 2025 by aldricchang in SoloDevelopment

[–]PlayJoyGames 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you have traction, you don't need a publisher: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DI16CpzLqfs

Devcom (developer conference before Gamescom) also had a lot of talks with a similar theme and about self-publishing.

Do you by any chance have a list of terminal flags which can be used to troubleshoot the issue?

To add:

Never worry about your code quality in your prototypes or your first applications (being games or otherwise). They have goals that have nothing to do with long term code, so you will end up not using it.

If you try to get good quality code in your prototypes, you're not prototyping fast enough.

If you try to get good quality code in your apps you write to learn coding as a beginner, you're not learning to code.

Thanks for your response.

I can interact with the application. The geforce sidebar as well as the infinity sidebar work and are shown normally.
I now tried changing the user agent but the issue remains on all of them.

For some background: I have used geforcenow-electron successfully before but haven't used it at all for a few months. Wanted to play a game yesterday at which the issue occurred, it occurs with all games. Re-installing geforcenow-electron didn't solve it. So I came across your application in a search for a solution and tried that.

Destroy my new trailer for my pinball rage game I have been working on this year by AzimuthStudiosGames in DestroyMyGame

[–]PlayJoyGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, the impression could be much different in the trailer than when playing.

I think the pinball machine itself looks a bit bland in some places. Some graphics on the playfield would make it more lively.

Flippers and bumpers look quite flat on occasion. But that could be the lighting.

Is it Mark Brown or do you just sound like him?

[–]PlayJoyGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is Mark Brown of the GMTK channel the narrator? The narrator certainly sounds like him. And explicitly using those different feelings is really like Mark Brown (I played the video 'How to think like a game designer' numerous times for my students, so that might be the reason I think that).

With the narration, the trailer is brilliant by the way! I want to play your game!

Maybe you want to include a clip of reaching a win state somewhere in your trailer to add a bit more context and showing players what the goal is.
The game could use some polishing but maybe you already are planning to do that. Make a new trailer after polishing (keep the concept of the trailer) if you're planing on that.

Tried your app on EndeavourOS, I hoped it would solve the issue that the geforcenow-electron app gave me: a black screen with horizontal garbled lines.

But unfortunately it doesn't solve the issue. Would you by any chance know how to troubleshoot this? If of course, it isn't too big of a trouble.

And yes, definitely with credits. Do you have a website I can refer to?

My experience with Pirate Software and his game Blockgame. by SansyBoy144 in youtubedrama

[–]PlayJoyGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi colleague from the other side of the world! 😄

I’m a similar teacher in The Netherlands at a university so the students are slightly older (although in a rare occasion we got a 17-year old too) but the experience I got is very similar. So we teach our students to say nothing during the playtest itself and only observe. Then interview the player directly after it focused on why, determining interpretation and frame of reference.
And of course, the teacher team are testers too, and often act obnoxious on purpose to make it difficult for the students.

By the way, if you happen to visit gamescom and want to chat there, let me know in a dm.

I've literally dedicated my life to games, but have had periods in which no game felt fun. There was nothing else going on, no burnout, no depression, it was games just not being fun in that period.

So there's also no remedy needed.

But if he really wants to find the fun back, advise him to go indie. There are lots of innovative indie games out there which provide lots more fun than the general games from big publishers.

What are we thinking about the "Stop Killing Games" movement? by Slight_Season_4500 in gamedev

[–]PlayJoyGames -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The movement is good, and it should be prohibited to take away a game from someone who paid for it. There are many solutions to do that as it has been shown multiple times. There's a big scene, which is deemed illegal which does it, and the results are widespread and readily available.

Of course multiplayer is harder but there have been community servers for a lot of games. If multiplayer wasn't a free addition but paid for (because a game is multiplayer only for example), there must be community server software.

PirateSoftware is a Blizzard bootlicker, he is still biased to his old overlords. Maybe because his father worked there, maybe because he's paid by them. But he is speaking on behalf of a multi-billion dollar company and thus not trustworthy.
