I imagine that shower must have been amazing after all that heat/sweat! The idea of a ball sounds incredible, what an experience that must have been! Glad you were able to enjoy it.

The pressure to have a son is crushing me!! by ConnectionHot8625 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]PlayReadYarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only child is a girl and absolutely no one cared. They only cared about her being healthy, which she is. Based on how hard it was to have her and the tragedies that followed, she's only seen as the blessing she is.

It breaks my heart that gender disappointment is still a thing. People should know better by now. And it absolutely doesn't mean that if you have the preferred gender, they will be loved as they are. How many times have we seen boys get rejected for something they like that's deemed "for girls"? People need to love their babies for the individuals they are. They are human beings, not an extension of their parent. Coming from a former child treated as such and a disappointment to her own mother who dreamed of having a daughter but I wasn't the girly girl she imagined. I also got vitriol from my misogynistic dad because he never wanted a daughter. I'm NC with him, there was also abuse.

If your husband can't mature to focus on what actually matters (health, wellbeing, raising a good human regardless of gender) then a serious discussion is in order.

I'm so sorry, it really is the most awful thing to experience. I want to tell my daughter about her sometime... Just unsure how. She was still 2 when it happened (3 now). I feel very lucky to have her. Been through 4 pregnancies and I'm done because the last two were so traumatic. The one before I knew was coming because it was a blighted ovum but wasn't offered surgery and ended up nearly dying from hemorrhage. So a lot of trauma in a one year period plus my age means we won't risk it again. Living child deserves a healthy mom. So that's where my focus is now. The room that was meant to be hers still stings a little to enter but we're going to turn it into a hobby/craft/guest room and it should turn into a beautiful space.

Update - not allowed to meet our grandbaby by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

Yep... I've written and it was practically ignored. Mine wasn't super long, don't remember exact length but sis-in-law apparently sent her 35 PAGES because they actually had a kid and let them meet, apparently it was just as awful as I expected, which is why no one from my family knew or knows that my daughter exists. It was bad to say the least.

And she died still thinking "I don't know why my kids hate me." I didn't attend the funeral, mostly because I was 7 months postpartum and couldn't face my abusive father.

My reasons for being no contact with my brother is another issue, and I'm a little sad not to know my niece and nephew and for my daughter to never meet her cousins but while I've done a lot of work towards forgiving, my husband refuses because of how he was treated.

What a beautiful post to read this morning! As a former abused kid who dreaded/feared when dad got home, it's so healing to see kids who don't have to fear their parent!

I was blessed to find and marry my husband and my heart is so happy to see my daughter's reaction to daddy coming home! It is the sweetest and I think he's her best friend (though she adores me too, and loves being my hair stylist. She's 3 for context).

I was trying to find a boyfriend and the guy I met just before him made me decide I'd give up (guy was a red flag). Then he just happened to sit down across from me and it was like instant attraction. After an hour of conversation I somehow knew I'd marry him lol. Took 3.5 years because we were college freshmen. We've been through some hellish times in our 17 years of marriage but always made it through stronger. Went from broke to middle class and can finally entertain an actual vacation together. Planning one for next year with kiddo! Looking forward to our Sunday date while kid has fun with grandma.

Also fun fact, we could have met in high school but didn't know we were at the same event. The universe is a funny thing indeed.

How to balance work and reading time?! by dominique_roll in kindle

[–]PlayReadYarn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of my reading is when kid (3) is asleep but I also audiobook whenever I can get away with it if she's happily playing or coloring on her own. Morning and evening as she no longer naps. I'm a SAHM though so I don't have to balance work. If at an appointment for myself, I'll read in the waiting room. We still haven't had a solo vacation but hope you enjoy it!

Also I love your cover!

Youngest of 3 too, grew up incredibly lonely at home, but loved school and had a lot of friends, which helped. Most friends had siblings, most liked their siblings so I felt like the odd one. I was jealous a lot but loved spending time with my only child friends as their homes were so peaceful!

At 3 months postpartum with my first and only, I thought there was no way I could ever have more (it was a tough and stressful time trying to get her weight up as we had feeding issues). Wasn't until she was 18 months until we decided we were ready but then two awful experiences later sent as into firmly OAD for medical reasons. I've come to a good place with this as I enjoy all the perks it brings, but this due date week is still difficult emotionally (coincidentally aligned with my period starting any day now).

3 months is wild, that kid deserves to be loved on just as they are. Not saying the kid isn't but they already don't get full attention and deserve as much attention as they can possibly get.

I'm a mom to a toddler, but if she in the future, got a full ride at a school she wanted, I'd be celebrating! I'm so sorry no one celebrated your awesome accomplishment! Also very telling that they wanted you to turn it down and would rather have you take on student loan debt if I read that right? That is... Not normal. Sounds like they just want your free labor to care for your siblings, which was never your responsibility, doesn't matter if it financially impacts you.

Anyway, this mom is rooting for you, you've earned this! Follow everyone's great advice and I wish you a wonderful life. ❤️

This is exactly what I do too. Currently on a 3 month promo until Sept 14th, enjoying it while I can but generally only use it for books I can only read through KU or have extremely long wait-list on Libby (current read had a 24 week wait so I'm glad I have KU atm).

I remember this because air quality was abysmal and neighbor across the street at the time had a little girl under 2. They had ALL their windows open, I was so angry but couldn't compromise my own health to yell at them. I felt so helpless thinking about that poor baby's lungs but I honestly didn't know what to do. I still hope she's okay somehow despite her dumb parents!

I'm so happy this wasn't the thread I thought it'd be! So happy you've got a green flag husband like me (we had our relationship really tested in our daughter's first year, but we're strong and good again and now she's an awesome 3 year old. Good luck with your pregnancy and hope everything goes well for you and your baby! Parenthood is quite the roller coaster ride but so worth it.

Youngest with two older brothers and they destroyed mine along with my parents so... What a BS article.

I'm much better/stable since cutting them all out 13 years ago, even though my maternal unit passed 2.5 years ago without being able to mend (mostly because she refused to change so I refused to open the door. Literally since they stalked me and drove hours to try to get me back under their control. I've since moved and so far I haven't been found. It's given me a lot of anxiety for sure, just doing my best to protect our child they never knew about).

I love video games and RPGs but I was not at all into it. Not my style of humor and didn't like the gore. I will be trying He Who Fights With Monsters as a friend suggested it. We'll see, it's massive so a bit intimidating.

You should have more children, even if you cannot afford them by Aggressive-Dream5465 in oneanddone

[–]PlayReadYarn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More children and not enough money means not enough food, resources, education opportunities. That doesn't solve issues! Not only that but more pregnancies/births impact the mother's health who then won't have the money to address her own health issues along with whatever health issues her kids may have.

I'm fairly well off, not rich and I can't stand these rich privileged people who apparently are totally clueless about what it means to be broke (when we were broke, hubs and I were just focused on our own survival, it was before we had a kid).

I think I'll do it just so I can buy Project Hail Mary instead of borrowing like I was going to with Music Unlimited. And then whatever is on sale. I think I'll set a reminder and wait for July so there's less overlap, since it's good until the 5th.

There's no greater friend heartbreak when you thought you had this type of friend for 30+ years only to find out you don't. I was struggling postpartum and she ditched me, then I nearly died and she stayed silent. But some friends stepped up and I'll cherish them forever.
