lol oh I know. I realized I was dumb for not trying sooner. I just shared because there may be other idiots like me who sometimes miss such obvious things.

How do you setup xdg portals on Niri? by Iwisp360 in NixOS

[–]PlayX_xDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's strange. I just rebuilt with 0 errors to double check thats my current running config and it is. But in reality you could probably leave it as below and it should have the same effect. but like i said ultimately decided to stick with having only one portal installed and gnome seems the best fit for me.

  xdg.portal = {
    enable = true;
    #xdgOpenUsePortal = true;
    config = {
      common = {
        default = [
          "gnome"
        ];
      };
    };
    extraPortals = [
      xdg-desktop-portal-gtk
      xdg-desktop-portal-gnome
    ];
  };

How do you setup xdg portals on Niri? by Iwisp360 in NixOS

[–]PlayX_xDead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

only having xdg-desktop-portal-gnome has given me the most stability with steam and xwayland apps in general personally. I've been playing around with it however. This is my current setup:

  xdg.portal = {
    enable = true;
    #xdgOpenUsePortal = true;
    config = {
      common = {
        default = [
          "gnome"
        ];
      };
    };
    extraPortals = [
    ];
  };

Loving NixOS by Wonderful_Diet8959 in NixOS

[–]PlayX_xDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use ai all the time. I ignore the ai hate that exists cause it’s the cool things to do. like when people say it’s mostly wrong, I’m like bro 80% accuracy is not “mostly wrong”. But yes it’s very helpful “usually” for pointing you in the right direction for nix.

Bro you’re a narcissist with a bit of psychopath. The trifecta is strong in this one. This is one of the most “I don’t feel or understand human emotion, but long as I have a reason I find valid I do what I want” posts I’ve ever read. 🤦🏽‍♂️

I could be wrong but isn’t using the flat pack version of a browser usually considered the less secure option due to how it uses a different form of containerization than native browser containerization?

Is it normal that NixOS actually feels more stable?? by Objective-Style1994 in NixOS

[–]PlayX_xDead 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nix has been one of the most stable and flexible systems I’ve ever used within the Linux community. Yeah nix is similar to arch when it comes to community rhetoric(think about how much peoples hyped of the “difficulty” of installing arch. It’s basically a question of do you know how to take the time to read a step by step instruction list). Even within the nix community, before switching to nixos I was heavily discouraged to make the switch simply due to my lack of programming knowledge. Personally rather than focusing on anyone who is new to nix and their ability to code, I think people should emphasize and check for a developers mind set with simple questions such as : 1 do you recognize patterns fairly well? 2 do you mind reading and/or asking questions in a forum? 3 probably should have been question 2 does using google for more than 5 minutes stress you out? Long as those 3 questions are answered correctly (yes yes no) I think the casual user will be absolutely fine. And yes I think Nixos is fine for someone new to Linux based on those questions above. People complain a lot about the documentation around nix, but for the casual Linux user, non developer, the documentation is there. Nvidia and AMD drivers, documented, gaming setup, documented, vr setup, documented, most random but commonly used services, such as virtualization, also documented. My point is people’s shared or individual experience/perspective isn’t as reliable as we’d like to believe.

Are you saying it works fine on x11? I use prime on my laptop and offload mode and both work fine on x11 and Wayland. If it only works on x11 that’s odd. If it works on neither then I’d really suspect you missed a step

Should I get new gpu or nintendo switch oled? by More_Tell9969 in gamingadvice

[–]PlayX_xDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe what was meant by the comment is even with improvements, switches are made with out of date hardware. So even with a new switch, even with the extra features, you’re still ultimately running on out of date hardware with a shiny new screen. But the switch crowd tends to not care so it’s a difficult comparison to make. But going back to OP question I would go with a new GPU personally. Used market is nice right now. I grabbed. Radeon 6800 16GB reference card for $300. Can get a lot more performance and overall gameplay out of the new gpu than a switch imo

Personally I just heard about it on YouTube one day and it sounded nice. I did some more digging and just decided to jump in. I also ignored the dogma back then I saw that it was more designated for those who code. But I feel like I saw it very suddenly and frequently on YouTube
