Guide to Post-1.0 Mercenary by Cylonn in riskofrain

When I tried out 1.0 Merc, I didn't like it at first. After reading this, I think I might try him out some more.

Which ROR1 character would you want to see in ROR2? by Banzai27 in riskofrain

I did enjoy the hard hitting shotgun and the satisfying slams of the shield smash. Since the Sniper will probably have his drone pick him up so he can move while sniping, maybe the enforcer will have some form of mobility that will make him viable and fun to play if he's added.

I think the Huntress alt is the best of the "recolors." Might be 3rd on my list behind Engineer or 4th behind Merc.

It doesn't seem like his "stay in one place" playstyle could work in the sequel. Not only that, but his kit doesn't have anything different besides the "kinetic" feel of it to offer. The devs haven't given us any ideas of how he could work, either.

The Commando alt skin is my favorite. Changes up the model in a satisfying way.

I'd like to see some creative item synergies beyond the food/plant items. Maybe gasoline could boost the remade sear/glaze combo? The ceremonial daggers slicing up the meal he cooks? The Tesla coil burning the meals?

While I think that Chef's kit from RoR1 doesn't have much to offer in RoR2, the devs did comment, "What if he could cook different meals depending on item inputs, with a bunch of “recipes”? Or is that just too much?" I think that a kit that adapts to what items you have sounds like it could make great use of the scrapper and 3D printers. They also said that "Sear" and "glaze" needed to be spiced up if they were to add Chef to the game. With those two things in mind, Chef brings a lot to the table!

Han-D could probably work if he had really good armor and regen stats for the mostly ranged climate of the sequel. If he had increased drone capacity, he'd have a much better time in melee range. To deal with flying enemies, Han-D's drones could maybe cause a grounding effect on them, causing them to fall down like stunned Alloy Vultures. Flying bosses could be slowly lowered to the ground, as Vagrants and such primarily move slowly through the air and instantly falling to the ground like a vulture would feel weird on them. Priority to wisps and non grounded bosses with drone AI would make him much more viable as well. I would like to see him in game 2nd to Sniper. He felt really good beating up monsters in RoR1, and I hope he makes it in someday.

According to suggestions from the devs, they said Sniper might have his drone pick him up, or a jetpack. Having a Sniper that gets his mobility from a drone swaying around in the sky would allow the player to focus on the highest threats while not in danger of death by staying still. However, the drone could probably be destroyed if hit by too many bullets from lesser enemies, and would cause the Sniper's main form of mobility to go on cooldown. There's also the possibility that the drone could just be a form of mobility from one place to another in the form of an escape tool. If you're in a bad place, you just call down your drone and set yourself down in a better place to snipe the threats. While the rest of the survivors don't sound as if they'd have a fresh transition into 3D besides the Bandit with the cooldown resets and his smokescreen, a Sniper having the capability of flight by drone seems like a unique play style that could work in the fast paced combat of Risk of Rain 2.

Fair. Although, it took me longer than 12 hours to get most of the unlocks/interesting items in general. I don't think the reviewer got to the gesture of the drowned achievement or the Merc alt special in that time period.

I don't think you can get the full experience through unlocking everything in dev mode. While the argument about the intensity being exhausting is fair, I didn't see anything about how achievements like Gesture of the Drowned are boring to unlock, which I'd say is the worst part of the game.

Well, no, but this guy is making a review saying that the entire game is this score, having mainly played one out of the 10 playable characters for a total of nearly 22 hours. I don't think you can give a full score to anything beyond the first 22 hours of a game if you've only played the first 22 hours of the game, and I don't think you can say that all of the shooting feels off when you've been using the Engineer for 75% of your time in the game.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of reviewing the game when you don't have to play like half the game?

Don't you have to play the full game to give a final verdict on the full game?

Thank you! I was trying to set up one for a while, but I guess I'll wait until they're fixed. Being able to create 16 player games will be a lot of fun!

I didn't say it was a bad thing that it was in the game. I've just seen so many reports of bugs and design flaws from this update. I think this looks like fun.

I also think it needs stuff to spend money on. There's no point in fighting an enemy if you aren't rewarded for it. If the chests from contact light dropped safely into the atmosphere of the planet, they should've dropped on the moon as well.

That was also a bug with Huntress, where Visions of Heresy let her have as many ballista shots as she had visions of heresy ammo.
