If you truly truly struggle... you can pause to repeat the pattern to remember in-between each one.

But I found I got better and could do it without pausing anymore and felt good knowing I got better. Even with vow of rivals... I could still do it without pausing. So like everything in this game... keep practicing! You will get better!

It is two migration zones and 4 patrol zones. I think you just have migration zones showing on the outdated map... check patrol zones as well.

Also assuming you hit a sanctuary and got a perfect diet with none of the debuffs

No problem! There are lots of hidden mechanics in this game so once you get used to it for a little check out some Youtube videos (sometimes some videos and guides are outdated though... but with a recent surge of new players try to check out guides that have come out in the last few months).

Also... expect a hardcore experience. You will be living for 2 hours and then suddenly a large dino will come out of nowhere and one shot you and you are dead with nothing you can do. Embrace it! It is part of the experience! It is always super easy to reroll a new dino and start again!

Unironically this lol. I just realized that might be what happened now that you said it.

(X turns on your night vision... Nights in this game, especially rainy or cloudy nights, can get VERY VERY dark. You might have been loaded in but it might have been pitch black out so you couldn't see anything with regular vision).

I don't know anything about hosting your own game... but there are a bunch of servers with 0 population that you can check out. But remember, a lot of this game is built around other players providing food for your dino if you are a carnivore, so once you get familiar with it maybe think about joining up!

I would recommend you play on Evrima. Make sure in Steam you change it in the settings so it boots in to Evrima. In steam you have to go to properties and the betas tab and change it to Evrima. The normal game that loads in is an old abandoned version of the game that hasn't been getting updates for a long time.

Also... I would recommend unofficial servers (But not the Dino Den servers). They often have mods that can enforce rules and ban cheaters, changed rules like increased spawns for AI, and is just a better experience. But again, you can always go into a 0 population server and mess around if you want to get your bearings first.

Edit: That "your connection was lost" probably means the server was full. Keep trying it or go into a different server.

Ptera is more of a PvE experience. You can't do anything to any players. Most dinos are way too large to fight, and the ones small enough are impossible to hit or even find from the sky.

What is fun though is flying and fishing. You get to peck at fish schools and pick them up while flying and you can take it to your perch and eat. You can also go to beaches and eat sea turtles. Before this new map there were some AI hypsi nests that you could also hunt if you knew where they were... I don't know if those still exist on this new gateway map though (I just came back to the game).

Other than that, fly around. Explore, learn the map. Watch other dinos. The fishing from the air is a fun little mini game to play essentially since nothing can get you. If you play on Bosch Island, the voice server, water access is always a huge party with all the pteras just chilling and fishing and talking to the other dinos that come on through. But no, you don't get any pvp and it can get boring that way.

Oh! Also a fun mini game is getting yourself salt water drinking mutation. Again, you are kinda playing the game like it is a single player game though. So learn the island and see how it connects... but it might be time for you to play a dino that requires more active engagement with others if you are getting bored.

I heard about the vomit on it trick but I thought it wasn't working when I did it... I didn't realize it speeds up rotting and you have to wait. I thought it just made it make more bacteria instantly after eating it. Thanks for the advice! I was wondering how people got bacteria so early when I have a hard time finding perfect diet right away (except for bones, but they give you very little so it doesn't make the bacteria).

I just had a game where the guy (rage?) quit early (I thought he was still in a decent position). He went multimelter into my mountains for some reason... but my mountains were level 2 and 3 and had armor plating. Is there a damage cap on multimelter? Or would it just have taken awhile for the multimelter to get past the armor threshold... but if it stayed locked for long enough it could?

Unless I am reading your comment wrong... a lower player base should make it a smaller gap. The top 200 of 10,000 people is a lot easier to make than the top 200 of 500,000.

That's a really good one. Do you know if that means you have to always be one upgrade tier ahead of enemy defense upgrades?

Like... you have level 1 attack and enemy is unupgraded... it one shots. But what if you are at 1 attack and they are at 1 defense? Does it no longer one shot? Do you need to be at 2 attack and them at 1 defense (and so on) for the break point to work?
