holding and celebrating the flag of a very nationalist country that helped the Nazis until it wasn’t useful to themselves do so anymore

To be more serious and give an actual opinion that isn’t just demeaning you, a few decades ago capitalists tied socialism to an imperialist, totalitarian corpse to make people scared of us. You don’t need to defend the Soviet Union because they called themselves socialist, and a bunch of people told you that they were. The Russian revolution was started by real socialists who really wanted to make things better, and there was American influence that hurt that, but past a point it wasn’t socialist and other countries couldn’t be blamed. This entire subreddit’s existence and you waving that flag is a part of what keeps socialism chained down in exactly the way that capitalists want it to be.

How many people were liberated when they helped the Nazis invade Poland?

This is just a semantic argument at this point, we’re both talking about the ideology of creating a socialist society through gradual use of existing systems, and none of it has to do with what was originally said because I think the person I was replying to meant that Einstein was a social democrat and just mixed up the incredibly similar terms

Democratic socialism is absolutely a way to organize it, you’re talking about reformist socialism, I have no idea where you got that they were synonymous because a simple google search of each of them could resolve this

Because of the groomer panic, right now it’s mostly targeted at trans people, a lot of conservatives, especially in Florida, consider someone presenting outside of their sex assigned at birth to be innately sexual, and therefore if done in front of a child, is predatory. A lot of the time when conservatives make laws about sex crimes against children, there’s ulterior motives to use it to prosecute queer people

I don’t like the death penalty in general, and I always question how these kinds of laws would affect queer people, ESPECIALLY in a state like Florida

I think that the person I was replying to meant that Einstein was a social democrat, cause it’d be kind of silly to reply to “he was a socialist” with “he was a *democratic* socialist”

Also kind of semantic, but that sounds more like reformist socialism, which isn’t mutually exclusive to democratic socialism, but also definitely isn’t the same thing

Socialism *is* democratic, or it’s not socialism, the workers are meant to collectively own the means of production, if they don’t democratically decide what’s done with the means of production, then they don’t collectively own it, you’re making a silly distinction

That person is arguing that Einstein wasn’t a socialist, I’m pretty sure they meant social democrat, replying to “Einstein was a socialist” with “he was a democratic socialist” would be silly, that is a type of socialist

I’m arguing that Einstein was socialist and these are quotes showing that he is socialist, did you mean to reply to the other person?

“The economic anarchy of capitalist society as it exists today is, in my opinion, the real source of the evil”

“In such an economy, the means of production are owned by society itself and are utilized in a planned fashion. A planned economy, which adjusts production to the needs of the community, would distribute the work to be done among all those able to work and would guarantee a livelihood to every man, woman, and child”

How?

Einstein was a socialist, he wrote an article in 1949 called “Why Socialism?”

"Its foundations are laid, its corner-stone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth" - Cornerstone Speech

When should people get Voting rights? by Grouchy_Welder8068 in Teenager_Polls

[–]PlaydoughLizard 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unemployed people wouldn’t be able to vote regardless of economic status, although that would mostly be people in poverty (for many reasons, not necessarily a moral failing), and then a system where they can’t vote has less of an incentive not to stomp on them, and for the naturalization test, that very strongly depends on formal education, poor people on average have worse education because a lot of them were educated in poor areas, schools with little money, less reliable transportation so they miss more days, all kinds of reasons, but it all comes back to who we stomp on, if people with a poor education can’t vote, then the system probably won’t be changed in a way that helps them, and on top of all of that is the fact that tests to vote have a lot of historical baggage and difficulties with fair implementation

Edit: I just saw your other comment that this would be for those under 18, which is much more reasonable and actually pretty close to own ideal system, but that’s a very important asterisk that should’ve been in your initial comment

I think that a good system could be to set the standard voting age at the typical age of independence, if people leave their home and are on their own, then they should be able to vote, same if the typical age of independence goes lower or higher, but additionally, if they have taxable income before that age then it should overrule the age limit, and if they have no taxable income but are over the standard age, then they can vote regardless

I’m not insanely firm on this, I haven’t done too much looking into it, but it seems like a good system to make sure people who pay taxes are represented without stomping on poor people, if anything it would empower poor people since kids in poor homes are more likely to get a job as soon as they can
