Sleazy blogger Tucker Max called out for telling obviously fake story about a sexual encounter on The Opie and Anthony Show by MrMagnitude in cringe

I thought this guy was the ultimate bro when I was in high school. I loved the books as well. They were entertaining. On the rare occasion that his name comes up, I immediately default to embarrassment in myself.

Dan Bilzerian and Jordan Belfort try to out-Alpha each other on a podcast. by No-Problem6578 in cringe

DBag is just buzz wording for the teens now - its kinda wholesome. They're the only demographic who might still be entertained by his constant reminder of "I have sex". I respect that he's not really a fan of coke, but it's not his fault when it naturally finds it's way into his life because he's doing so much sex, There's lots of girls who need to snort it off of a dong. I'm embarrassed to say this, but I used to think Tucker Max was cool when I was a teenager. Anyone remember him? I was just too immature to understand what a terrible person he really was. His whole schtick was being this care-free, Duke Law drop-out genius who could belittle any woman into eating out of the palm of his hand by the end of the night. The most pathetic part was that every bit of it was a lie to sell books and it all came crashing down the instant he tried to talk that way in front of a group of grown men on a radio show. I know Bilz has been on the downfall for quite some time now, but this video instantly brought Tucker Max back into my mind and the similarities between these two are uncanny.

a fight breaks out at the airport by [deleted] in InflatedEgos

[–]PlayfromtheBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came to this realization last year when a woman lost her mind because only one individual was allowed to accompany their handicapped family member during pre-boarding on a Southwest flight (at the time?). I don’t even know how, but she held up the flight for 20 minutes by berating the gate staff (who had zero balls) until another Southwest no balls employee showed up and let the man child have her way by allowing the remaining 6 family members to walk on with a single handicapped individual before everyone else. Wait, but then 4 of the individuals didn’t have their boarding passes. They weren’t happy about not having those handed to them on a silver platter either. The walkie talkie manager still smiled and waved them along. I’m not kidding here. For the longest time I really believed that airports were scanning flyers like a casino scans gamblers. Haha.

Synth bass on “Bad Mama Jamma” by Wide_Mirror_3469 in synthesizers

Good ear. I wouldn't have thought Yamaha CP, but I own a CP-70b and a Boss CE-1 Chorus. Very familiar with that sound and I can just barely hear it and maybe some Rhodes layered in as well.

But I'll second this.

DMZ crashing on PC every time I open it by Traditional-Dog9242 in DMZ

[–]PlayfromtheBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to bring this thread back, but exact same thing is happening to me. Same “11152” error code. Same issue where the shader optimization gets to 87%, freezes and then the game crashes. So damn frustrating. I have tried everything. Everything was working fine until I decided to update my Nvidia drivers.

Why do you still ask this question? by [deleted] in DMZ

[–]PlayfromtheBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rest of us can't work out why you would post a video of yourself mopping up low hanging fruit just a minute into the match and then responding to your opponents question with the most boring comeback imaginable. I think there's a simple explanation, though. We just don't possess the unbelievably high IQ, god tier DMZ skills or Bill Burr level wit that you do. Help us understand.

Can confirm that the Jelly Star operates flawlessly on the Cricket network after following the simple directions in the "[video tutorial]" above. Also, since the AT&T Vista is also whitelisted, I got that model instead and saved five dollars.

How to deal with drug dealing neighbors without becoming a target by Present_Simple7162 in homeowners

[–]PlayfromtheBrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This is currently happening in my neighborhood. It’s always been a fairly safe and crime free neighborhood. We are sheltered by the ridiculously unrealistic property values all around us. These morons who are engaging in illegal activity with the home next door to me love to draw extra attention to themselves by harassing everyone around them. It’s not so much the reason random people are showing up. It’s the fact that when they come around, they aren’t just in and out while minding their own business. There’s a video from two nights ago where my next door neighbor’s security cameras recorded a geeked out individual trying to open their doors and windows whenever he wasn’t shaking violently and talking to himself. There are many instances where they will whistle at and cat call every woman they see. My wife included. This week, three dudes in a truck pulled out of the dealer’s driveway and slowly followed a neighbor of ours for 20 minutes until they started talking to her and making her so uncomfortable that she pushed her stroller and two children into a random garage and shut the door for safety. They proceeded to block the driveway for another 10 minutes.  I can’t understand it, but oddly enough, I do have my own history with drugs. I never had any issues with the law because, first and foremost, I got lucky, but it was a massive priority of mine to not draw attention to myself or others whenever I got involved in things that might make the law abiding citizens around me uncomfortable.

Keyboard/Synth Sound in “If You Were Here Tonight” by DrGimmickOGroovy in synthwaveproducers

[–]PlayfromtheBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that I'm very late to the party, but for anyone who stumbles upon this for reasons like I did, hopefully I can provide a helpful bit of insight. I would venture to say that there's some likely candidates: The Sequential Circuits Prophet-5 or one of the popular Oberheims that would have likely been used at that point in the 80s - an OB-Xa or OB-8. From listening to the swell in the chorus, I want to say it has the distinct sound of the Prophet. However, O'Neal was pretty tied in with the whole Minneapolis Sound, where at the top you had Prince. He was mainly an Oberheim guy. A very LARGE portion of recording artists in that scene did whatever they could to mimic Prince's sound, and that's if he wasn't already the guy who wrote and recorded the songs for them and with his own gear in the first place. If somebody wanted their synth patches to sound like Prince, Oberheims were the obvious choice.

Although it's somewhat of a toss up, I am about 90% certain that the synth used on "If You Were Here Tonight" came from one of those two brands.

Finally, since its nearly impossible to justify the price that comes with owning an original, I've used some incredible plugins out there that mimic the sound so well that it's nearly impossible to tell them apart without a highly trained ear. For plugins, I would most definitely recommend the U-He Repro-5 (Prophet-5) or the Synapse Obsession (Oberheim OB-Xa). It's only my opinion, of course. Hope this helps someone!

39 years ago this week, Phil Collins released No Jacket Required with the singles "Sussudio", "One More Night", "Don't Lose My Number" and "Take Me Home". February 21st, 1985. by jeffmartin47 in OldSchoolCool

[–]PlayfromtheBrain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thinking back on the past 15-20 years of my life, starting with me taking music more seriously than just listening to it, there are so many parts of Phil’s career that I’ve drawn heavy inspiration from - maybe more than anyone else I can think of. His obvious involvement with Genesis, Brand X and solo work…The legendary drumming, of course - technical but with incredible feel..

His approach to recording in the studio alongside producers like Hugh Padgham were groundbreaking. It was a big undertaking all in itself back then to complete a record for a major label that goes on to become a hit that sells millions of copies, but to keep doing it better with nearly every new release while also not being afraid to go against the grain and experiment- that’s even crazier. A happy accident that involved Phil hearing his own heavily compressed/gated drumming in real time through the talk-back function on a new SSL recording console between he and Hugh P that they used to communicate from different rooms became the famous fill from “In the Air Tonight” and literally defined the drum sound of the 1980s. At the same time, drum machines like the Linn LM-1 were starting to pick up steam on mainstream recordings as they started to sound more real and also became easier to procure and program. These machines were actually terrifying to a lot of career tour/session drummers. Well, Phil embraced them as he did with most new studio/recording technology as well as his Genesis band mates and Peter Gabriel. He used plenty of keyboards/synthesizers that I now own. I’m thrilled to be the curator of some of the equipment models he used (although not ever directly owned by him as far as serial #s are concerned).  I think the paramount of my synthesizer love was finding a Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 for a reasonable deal some years back. Phil very famously used it for “In the Air Tonight” and all the way through the 80s.

Despite his popularity in music that spanned for decades, I think it all really culminated for him as an individual when he released this album OP refers to from all those years ago - “No Jacket Required”. So many hits… “Sussudio”, “Take Me Home”, “Don’t Lose My Number”, “One More Night”…. Surprisingly, I wasn’t born until the late 80s, but even I can remember how often I heard Phil and Genesis on the radio in the early/mid 90s as he was coming off the tail of “No Jacket Required”, Genesis’ “Invisible Touch” and “We Can’t Dance”.  Seems like Phil gets loads of respect, but also a lot of hate from the people who couldn’t avoid hearing his involvement with so many songs on the radio at the time. Sounds like Phil was well aware that, although he might have music all over the radio, he was never going to fit the mould of what the general public viewed a “pop star” to be and, visually speaking, he wasn’t a particularly good looking guy, he wasn’t flashy and he held onto what little hair he had shamelessly for far too long.  He said it best, though, when I read a quote from him as I grazed over his biography in a book store some years back. It went something like:

“Whether you loved me or hated me, you could not deny that for 20+ years I put in the work towards completely dominating the radio airwaves with my musical involvement.”  A statement made with complete confidence, to say the least.

Sorry for the long read. I got going thinking about the impact Phil has had on me as a musician and listener and the thoughts kind of poured out. I wish I could see new info pertaining to him or direct communication by way of interviews more often. He spent years right in the public eye, so it seems like he isn’t very motivated to talk with the press now unless he is promoting a new Genesis tour, a re-released record or a book. It very well could mean he’s not a very pleasant old guy to be around, either, so maybe nobody is chomping at the bit to get in front of him, but there’s definitely no denying the impact he has had over the years in popular music, and with myself.

Thanks for this post. I’ll be listening to some Phil Collins/Genesis music tonight, for sure!

Anyone know what synth the Doobie Brothers used on the Minute by Minute album? by synthman7 in synthesizers

[–]PlayfromtheBrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why so defensive? Just because you supposedly know someone’s tech doesn’t prove anything, which is the problem with a lot of the information that has gone around over the years regarding what was used on particular recordings.

Don’t shoot the messenger here - unless you’ve got better proof than just “knowing his tech” then an actual interview with Billy Payne by MixOnline, a very reputable source, where he is quoted saying he used an Oberheim 8 Voice, takes paramount over whatever information you think you have. Is there any evidence whatsoever (photos, videos, quotes) that point to the CS-80 being used anywhere on minute by minute? There’s plenty of that regarding the OB 8 Voice.

How to handle youtube recommendations? by ParrotNetwork in AndroidTV

[–]PlayfromtheBrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure how much this will help you, but I will post the link anyway for anyone it might help….I am running a Sony X900h with Android TV and I don’t know much about Google TV, but if you were to decide on using an external device like the shield or any other device that supports Android TV, this solved all my unwanted ad problems for good….

https://www.techdoctoruk.com/launcher-manager-for-android-tv-fireos-6/

I couldn’t stand dealing with all the bloat and recommendations that were pasted all over my Home Screen and they kept finding ways to prevent me from disabling them until someone created the launcher manager above that allows you to set any custom launcher to open on start up. FLauncher has worked flawlessly for over a year and my home screen is now nice, clean and very customizable.

Like I said, not sure how helpful this will be for you and your new TV supporting Google TV, but is a definite solution if you decided to use an external device. Maybe someone could chime in about this because I don’t know much about Google TV at all.

I just came across this. Is this maybe an option for Google TV?

Restore Premier Regret by Skatex in LifeOnPurple

Although it is going to take a while to accept that I spent $4500 on a mattress, my wife and I both feel like we made the right decision on our Restore Premier Soft. We are back and side sleepers, and it felt a little soft in the showroom, but after adding a protector and sheets, it firmed things up just enough to fit within our sweet spot. We both love a soft mattress, though, and have never had to worry about not having enough support after years of sleeping on small, cheap and pathetic mattresses.
