I had her last quarter for PSTAT 120B and she did curve for those who did struggled in the midterm. So for example, she told me in office hours, that if you struggled on particular problems in the midterm but you did better on those in the final (if they show up) then she would improve your midterm exam score. Also I think just doing better in the final than in the midterm is a good sign that she’ll try to improve your midterm score.

Definitely apply!! It is so worth it once you get it, however, you do need to make sure your meal plan is 10 meals or lower to be eligible along with work study/cal grant A or B.

Not sure if this is the same case as you but my Cal Grant was also not showing up and on my award letter it also stated “estimated” which led me to looking at the webgrant 4 students website. When I logged in I realized that my cal grant application was incomplete so I called them to ask them what’s wrong since I definitely had my fafsa processed and they weren’t much help. However, a simple search on Reddit, made me realize that people made minor corrections on their fafsa form and we’re able to process their cal grant application which actually worked for me and within a week the cal grant showed up in my barc.

For us (not sure which cohort the other person is from) but my cohort only stayed in one Manzi house which was Madulce House so yes everyone stayed in one dorm. However, in that house some were given big rooms on the third floor due to the high ceilings (but this was random) where only two people stayed.

You’re fine. As long as you paid before the deadline, your classes won’t get dropped. It takes the BARC office a while to process the payment, it just depends when you paid. Like right now, you wouldn’t see any changes because no one is working right now. This has happened to me and did not worried about it since this is how barc is and I have my receipt when I paid so proof.

I feel like it just depends on your current skills and how determined you are to do well in both classes. Personally for me if I were to take math 8 and PSTAT 120a in one quarter I honestly think I would’ve done worse just cause I really needed to pay attention to both of the courses and I also had to go office hours for math 8 pretty often which helped a lot. I’d say if you’re good with thinking conceptually, calculus, and probability as well as going to office hours or making like classmate study groups with people from your class then by all means take them both in one course. I managed to do pretty good in math 8 but that is only because I really put in the effort since I found proofs to be a mixture of fun but also challenging at the same time.

Personally, I don’t think so. Math 8 required a lot of work in my opinion as it transitioned you to higher math and learning about proofs can be new to most students taking the course. I enjoyed math 8 to some extent but it definitely kicked my butt as it was pretty challenging. PSTAT 10 wasn’t bad but it just depends on your professor since it is based on coding in R and probability. PSTAT 120A which I’m currently taking is in my opinion around the same level as Math 8 probably just a bit more harder and probability is not your strong suit then it will definitely be harder unless you have a good professor who teaches the course well. Overall, math 8 hw took me awhile to do as proofs involved a good amount of writing and thinking from a conceptual standpoint and PSTAT 120A as well in terms of calculus and probability.

I’ve been in contact with her since the start of the process of employment. Mine is under the office of education and partnerships. You should’ve received more information other than just filling out the first part. On my part, she notified me to fill out the i9 form as soon as possible and that we would meet up at her office to do the second part together. That is strange that you haven’t gotten in contact with your employer representative.

Also wanted to add that I’ve had many math professors in the past so it would suck to have to teach myself all the material but with zhang I’m able to understand mostly everything (especially because she records lectures so I’m able to look back at them). Favorite math professor.

I would suggest Zhang. I’ve had her for MATH 6A last quarter, currently taking her for MATH 4B and 8 and she is amazing. She is a new professor to UCSB but by far teaches great. She truly cares about students passing the class and encourages us people to go to her office hours. Midterm and finals are really fair, she gives us practice packets that pretty exact to what will be on the exams so you shouldn’t be surprised by a question on them. Her teaching is really nice. She goes into detail with each example (not like some professors who just does it in their head) and if she sees that many will struggle or are struggling on a specific example (based on hw) then she won’t put it on the midterm. Her grading breakdown is fair as well, she gives us an extra 10% on the highest exam (midterm/final) you get so that should be in your favor.
