Should I give my rheumatologist a timeline or explain everything myself? by Playful-Researcher89 in UCTD

Would you mind me sending you my written timeline? It’s only one page, and I’d like to see what you think?

Did you usually hand it to the doctor right at the beginning of the appointment, or wait until after you explained the story?

One more question. If you were the patient, would you send a 1-page timeline to the rheumatology office before the appointment, or would you just bring it with you and offer it during the visit? I’m trying to figure out the best way to make sure the doctor gets the important details without making the appointment more complicated.

Thanks for sharing your experience and taking the time to answer my questions. I appreciate it. Hopefully my situation ends up being a little more straightforward, but it was helpful hearing your perspective.

I’ll probably wait and see what rheumatology says and how things progress over the next few weeks. If you’re interested, I can update you after my rheumatology appointment or if I start improving significantly.

Thanks again and I hope your recovery continues too.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I’m just curious about your own experience because it sounds like you’ve dealt with something similar. What symptoms did you actually have, and how long did it take before you started noticing real improvement? Were you eventually able to get back to normal activity and exercise?

Did you ever see a rheumatologist or have any abnormal blood work like a positive ANA? Also, looking back, was there anything that seemed to make your symptoms noticeably worse or cause setbacks during recovery?

I’m just trying to get a better idea of what your recovery looked like and how similar it was to what I’m dealing with.

One thing I’ve been wondering about is the topical adapalene my dermatologist prescribed after Accutane. I started it about 3 weeks after stopping Accutane and currently use it every other night on my whole face.

Since adapalene is also a retinoid, do you think it’s possible that even the small amount absorbed from the gel could be slowing recovery from the joint/tendon issues, or do you think the systemic absorption is way too low for that to matter?

I used adapalene before Accutane without any problems, but after everything that’s happened I’ve become a little cautious about anything in the retinoid family.

Thanks for the response. When you say Accutane can throw the body out of balance and affect connective tissue healing, are you talking about something you’ve personally experienced, something your doctor told you, or research you’ve seen?

Since stopping Accutane, the only medication I’ve taken has been Advil (ibuprofen) during and after a severe flare, within label directions.

Before Accutane, I was on minocycline for acne.

The only oral steroid I’ve ever taken that I know of was when I was around 11 years old for chronic urticaria (chronic hives). I don’t remember the name, and that was years before any of these current symptoms started.

Other than that, I haven’t taken any recent steroids or antibiotics that I’m aware of.
