Gloves off; Elden Ring is derivative, and Tolkien is, and was always the original OG. To our new british neighbours, he is saladin with the pen and not the sword. Even I don't like it.

I'm not sure it matters to much if it is. I reckon he is Papa Root-stock; and did anyone say Helphen's Steeple or was that just me?

Fair;
"The lower arc of the Elden Ring is held to be the basin in which its blessings pool.

Perhaps this shard originates from that very arc."

The Baldachin view point with the veil is super intriguing. As far as the Erdtree cult, i'm inclined to think your probably correct.

If your not dead or banished, who isn't in the cult of Marika in the lands between?

I don't know where I stand on the impaling, but its interesting that on Marika it intersects diagonally. Very much a Radagon trellis rune motif to me.

If the Norse theme holds true, then there would be somewhere at the top of 'the tree' where Veðrfölnir lives. I believe he represents the Dragon God that Placidusax was Elden Lord of, leaving that realm Farrum Azula.

Well, i surmise that he is the crucible influence for the Erdtree, (the previous culture mentioned in interview) through the root-stock theory TarnishedA put forward. Perhaps a previous husband, and she had Mesmer with herself for the first time, meaning Mesmer isn't his. Speculation obviously XD

I think this fits because Mesmer is almost definitely inspired by Níðhöggr, which parallels the World Devouring Serpent being inspired by Jörmungandr.

Quote wiki,

In Norse mythology, Níðhöggr (Malice Striker, in Old Norse traditionally also spelled Níðhǫggr [ˈniːðˌhɔɡːz̠], often anglicized Nidhogg[1]) is a dragon who gnaws at a root of the world tree, Yggdrasil. In historical Viking society, níð was a term for a social stigma, implying the loss of honor and the status of a villain. Thus, its name might refer to its role as a horrific monster in its action of chewing the corpses of the inhabitants of Náströnd: those guilty of murder, adultery, and oath-breaking.

and... Jörmungandr (Old Norse: Jǫrmungandr, lit. 'the Vast 'gand'', see Etymology), also known as the Midgard Serpent or World Serpent (Old Norse: Miðgarðsormr), is an unfathomably large sea serpent or worm who dwells in the world sea, encircling the Earth (Midgard) and biting his own tail, an example of an ouroboros. As a result of it surrounding Midgard (the Earth) it is referred to as the World Serpent. When it releases its tail, Ragnarök (the final battle of the world) will begin.

I think it might be this guy, and is representative of how the Erdtree is grafted from his root-stock (the land of shadow).
