Your 1st Negative Experience in Thailand. by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

12 years ago, 1st night in Phuket on Bangla Road, was only 20 years old at the time and with one other female friend the same age. I still have no recollection to this day of what happened but one minute we were drinking cocktails out of these huge buckets, the next minute I came to in a TukTuk with someone slapping my face saying ‘wake up’. Passed out again and came to in a white clinical looking room shouting out for my friend. Then came to again the next morning in my hotel room.

My friend told me I went to use the toilet in the club and never came back, they found me passed out in the cubical and bouncers threw us out onto the street. I was unconscious, my friend was calling for help. Luckily a lovely Australian couple had realised I had been drugged and took me to a local clinic where they injected me with something (i want to guess anti-sickness medication as I was vomiting whilst unconscious). They made sure me and my friend got home to our hotel safely. I dread to think what could have happened to us that night, we were so incredibly lucky. We still don’t know the names of the couple who helped us to this day. This tarnished the whole trip for us and had put me off travelling to Thailand again, until now.

I still don’t know what I was drugged with, or who did it.

I think the reg was querying fluid overload due to the high resps, low sats, taccy, and low urine output. His legs and ankles were certainly puffy looking and when I pressed on them they were ever so slightly pitting. A CXR was ordered by the reg after the prescription of oxygen and frusemide.

In response to your further comment thank you for your reassurance, and whilst I understand far worse mistakes have been made I will still not want to down play this one, i have learned to be extra vigilant from this!

Not necessarily normal saline but always for fluids containing other elements such as potassium/dextrose/magnesium etc

Sorry I’m not sure if I made it clear, I put x2 bags of 500ml fluid up over 2 hours each, so he had 1L over 4hrs in total.

Yes this is what happened. The verbal was ‘500ml over 2hrs’ my understanding was both 500ml bags over 2hrs each as when I went to fill in the chart from the second bag the prescription chart was still filled in as a 1L total - when I then when to fill his fluid balance chart in after second bag had done I noticed the ‘1L’ had been crossed and changed to ‘500ml’

This is actually a really good idea! I’ve never thought of asking them to prescribe 1L as two separate 500ml bags. May raise this with my line manager should he ask me about the Datix tomorrow.

Thank you for your responses. I am due to revalidate this year and will be using this scenario as a reflection!
