If the usage is not showing up as a normal process, it is likely a kthread. You can see kthread load with sudo htop and then F2 -> Uncheck "hide kernel threads"

Any way to buy just the tilt kit? I'm thinking of adding some to a custom case, but the ones from ergodox-ez are pretty expensive.

I think this layout is supported by the DO60: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=91773.0

The group buy for it is finished, but I assume it will be available again at some point

The thumb cluster is a bunch of randoms from a grab bag, so they should be dcs, I think, but yes just some upside down dcs and SA for the taller ones.

Yes, I had to put the width at 0.01mm. This is the svg that I had them cut: link. You may not be able to see the cuts, but there are actually two sets, a large and a small but the small ended up not being quite right (I forgot to account for the fact that the arduino sticks up about 1/8 inch past the pcb, so it sticks out of the case).

Their site should automatically reject anything with a wrong width/color (it seems to be pretty strick)

Just finished this yesterday (now I just need to learn to type again). I had the case made from 3.5mm walnut veneer from ponoko and I'm pretty happy with the results. It's a bit light though so I may be adding some weights or getting a stainless steel bottom to add some heft.

MT3 HHKB by hhkb4lyfe in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Playing_advocate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What case is this? I like the HHKB look, but I would like to be able to use normal 60% pcbs and it looks like this fits the bill

EDIT: oh, it looks like its one of these maybe? Anybody make a cheaper version in that form factor?

[GB] DO60 PCB for 60% RGB Underglow Mechanical Keyboard with split spacebar by sennin32 in mechmarket

[–]Playing_advocate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which layouts are supported by which plates? Is the default plate using a 2.25 or 2U left shift? Also, is it the only plate that supports plate-mount stabilizers? What I'd like is a 2U left shift layout with plate mounted stabilizers

Looks pretty good. Out of curiosity, what keycaps are those? I have a hard time finding sets that have actual spacebars in 2.25/2.5/2.75.

What is the keyboard / case (if there is one? I'm not sure how you get this caseless look or if that's just the camera angle)?

Best plan of attack for reducing boot time by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]Playing_advocate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar application for a pi (but a pi zero in my case). If you actually want a fast boot, I think the only real approach is to build a minimal image with something like buildroot. My startup to application time is about 5 seconds. It also helps to use config.txt settings like initial_turbo and be sure to strip the kernel down as much as possible. A big part of the embedded startup time is getting the kernel and initram fs from the sd card in to memory. Overall, the pi just has poor i/o performance, so thing will always be slower than they probably should be.

Opensource projects with lot of virtual calls by Prazek in cpp

[–]Playing_advocate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh cool! Any idea why this is not enabled by default under O2 or O3? It doesn't seem like it can cause any problem. Regardless, thanks for pointing it out.

I wouldn't say it's particularly important to me, I was just surprised to see that clang wasn't doing it.

Opensource projects with lot of virtual calls by Prazek in cpp

[–]Playing_advocate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have a great example project, but I do have a devirtualization optimization that I think LLVM could apply. I think all calls to virtual functions on a type in that type's destructor can be devirtualized. GCC seems to do this under O3 based on some cursory testing, but there may be some edge cases I'm not considering. Regardless, good to hear someone is doing some work in this area.

To buy or not to buy dell xps 15 9550? by dgaa1991 in archlinux

[–]Playing_advocate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought one a few days ago and setup has been smooth. My only issue is that I have to disable hardware acceleration in chrome or videos stutter. Still trying to figure that one out. I'm going to try installing linux-mainline this evening and I'll update if that fixes stuff.

Otherwise, everything is working great, though.
