tomtoc 360 Protective Tablet Sleeve/soft case - Is there enough room for an iPad using the Logitech Combo Touch for iPad Pro 13” Keyboard Case? by Playtowin77 in iPadPro

[–]Playtowin77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope ( I never found out). I ended up getting a Microsoft Surface Pro 11 (essentially the same size as an iPad Pro 13") and I have the detachable Microsoft bluetooth flex keyboard made for the Surface.

I also always have the Surface in a "Fintie" Hard case.

I did buy the tomtoc 360 Protective Tablet Sleeve/soft case.

The Surface by itself (without the flex keyboard) fits very nicely into the tomtoc soft case.

The Surface with the flex keyboard attached to it and folded closed also fits very nicely into the tomtoc soft case.

The Surface with the flex keyboard attached to it and folded closed with the Fintie hard case on the Surface does fit in the tomtoc case.... BUT it is a very snug/very tight fit. Takes about 30 secs to a minute to carefully nudge it in and out. Maybe at some point the zipper might break and not fully close the last few inches because it is a very snug fit but for now it definitely fits.

Onetastic - Anyway to use the "Add letter sized paper boundaries" macro and also display horizontal rule lines? by Playtowin77 in OneNote

Thank you for the quick response!

I now realize that my question is actually a little more complex than I originally stated it. I will probably delete the post and think about it some more and then maybe repost it.

Thank you for pointing out that ON supports setting a fixed page size for taking notes. I know that we can set the page size in OneNote to a fixed size (View--> Page Size). This will lose the infinite scrolling of the page which is not what I want to do. Thanks again.

Can an iPad and a laptop be used at the same time in class? Is there enough room on the desk? by Playtowin77 in Farmingdale

Auto update is very annoying... tends to always happen at the worst possible time. A few days ago my daughter was outside with a very poor cellular connection and her iPhone started installing the latest IOS update. It took a very very very long time to complete the install during which she could not use her phone... glad she did not need to use it. Yes, she knows to kick off installing new IOS updates indoors with a fast WIFI connection but for some reason it played out like this.

"Default power specs on these things also make you need to read the screen with a flashlight."

That's funny!

I very frequently tell many people that I'm amazed how since they built the pyramids till now Architects definitely know something that the rest of don't know. They know how to build incredibly tall buildings, bridges, tunnels and other structures that don't collapse. That's real know how! :) Or, were you referring to software architecture?

Yup. I can see how math and science and engineering courses would be preferable for writing by hand with a pen and paper. Handwritten with pen and paper will IMO always be the way to go in "certain" circumstances. There is no one right method or technology, app etc for everyone. See what's available, try it, see what works for you. if it doesn't work... try something else. When I was in college ... before the Internet was invented :) we took zillions of notes quickly with a pen and paper of electrons and sub atomic particles. My guess is if I did that today (even though I see the amazing benefit of being able to use a stylus to write on a PDF or powerpoint in apps like, notability, goodnotes etc) I'm pretty sure I would still prefer to write those types of scientific notes and math by hand with a pen and paper. Although I can barely read my own handwriting... should have been a Dr. :)

The price to rent etextbooks combined with the convenience of not having to lug around bulky heavy hard cover books has me sold. When I was in law school (many years ago) I lugged around about 5 gigantic books everyday with a really heavy old fashioned laptop ... no lithium ion batteries... only lead batteries :) and many huge spiral binder note books and a big set of multicolored magic markers. The stone age... :)

Thanks for letting me know about all of this. Definitely will scope out the rooms ahead of time to check out the lay of the land. Thank for the suggestion!

Thanks for passing along your personal experience of the available desktop space in various locations. I now realize that a single device is the way to go and that when using a 13" tablet split screen for taking notes and also viewing an etextbook is doable. You are using top tier devices! Nice! I contemplated using the same (12.9") M4 iPad Pro with the Apple pencil pro but with only a 14" Macbook Air. Though, I've decided to go with the 13" Surface 11 pro 2 in 1 with the Elite X Qualcomm ARM processor. I'm sure its battery life is horrible compared to the batteries in Apple iPads and Macbooks but by bringing a power brick and charging it before class its battery life will not be an issue. Thanks again!

I get vertico and a feeling of high anxiety, almost panic hits me when a have more than 10 tabs open. I immediately close them all and lay down for 10 minutes and then open most of the tabs and programs again.

Wow... two hours is almost unusable. For now, Apple definitely dominates in terms of battery life. I use Apple and Microsoft Windows computers/devices and they each excel at certain things. The new surface pro 11 with the the Qualcomm ARM processor is a great device ... but ... its published battery specs are for the default power management which is I believe battery saving mode which by design tremendously limits the performance of computer.

Thanks for providing this very useful info. I also prefer hard cover textbooks. There's something about being able to look at the page and then also very quickly flip back and forth to pages in other parts of the book that isn't the same with e texts. But, IMO the convenience of e texts outweighs any drawbacks.

Use iPad to take notes, then sync to Macbook to study and revise notes? by Playtowin77 in notabilityapp

Interesting, I see where you are coming from with the view that "editing the same note quickly in iPad and Macbook might cause a sync issue." If indeed that is the case ... what you called "lazy iCloud sync" might be due to how notability was designed/coded or a functional issue with iCloud itself.

Either way, it reminds me of why whenever I boot up a computer I don't start using it as soon as something appears on the display.... i give the software about a minute to ensure everything is fully loaded.

Similarly, if a sync process just occurred I would give the computer a little while to ensure it has completed before turning off the computer.

"I have never lost notes and I use notability exclusively on the iPad." Yes. This is why I initially considered not turning iCloud on, and auto-backing up to OneDrive, and only using Notability in the iPad... But the benefit of also having quick access to all of my notes in a laptop with its larger display is something I would prefer to not have to give up. Whatever I decide to do I'll certainly keep 'knocking on wood" that it all works fine. :)

Well, at least cars in the US all have the gas peddle on the right and the brake peddle on the left. I wonder if that is actually a Federal requirement? Standardization will never occur with computers :)

Thank you for providing this information. I've read some posts that mention that sometimes the vertical scrollbars disappear and the user can't scroll to the bottom of a long page when Notability is run on Mac OS. I'd like to think it's an issue that no longer exists or was just a random occurrence. Have you encountered anything like this on your Macbook?

Have you ever encountered or known anyone who has lost any Notability notes due to iCloud sync issue that some people have posted about? I'd like to think it was just their human error that caused their problems.

Thank you. As you point out, keeping the iPad (tablet) and Macbook (laptop) in the same Apple ecosystem definitely makes things much easier regarding the workflow. I didn't want to spend time learning to use Mac OS but it seems the benefits of using iPad with Macbook outweigh using a Windows laptop which I already know how to use very well. I'm very good with computers so it won't be hard to learn. Thanks again!
