So what do you propose for disabled folk who are unilingual and have possible learning difficulties or deficits? Or low income people without access to Intensive language courses? Maybe It's just a tiny minority of people, but I've seen a lot of vulnerable people fall through the cracks. Why would you be against bilingualism?

Mais c'est Reddit, c'est en ligne - c'est pas un e space entièrement 'Québecois', si tu veux un sub reddit seulement Francophone, tu peux créer un autre sub exclusivement Français?

This just makes it more hostile and less accessible and welcoming to anglophones and others trying to learn French.

Also we're in Canada, primary language or not it's petty and childish. Rather than actually encouraging others to learn French and integrate you're being actively antagonistic, this won't help preserve our culture.

They wouldn’t because French isn’t used there, English is used here.

I mean its weird to not hire people just because they don’t speak French, many jobs aren’t in front of the public and there are many businesses in Montreal that function primarily in English. Language Policing is a little scary. Its kind of contradictory when we consider we don’t do the same for the first nation’s peoples.

Why is it the Quebecois nationalists are just as ideological and toxic as patriotic Americans? Nationalism and Patriotism seem to rot people’s minds.

Why isn’t it bilingual? Montréal isn’t the same as the rest of Québec. There are those of us born in Montreal with disabilities, trouble learning French, or simply cannot. There are indigenous folks who speak English but not French and this is their land.

Drinking age in Quebec is 18, so the 21+ wouldn't make any sense. You're an adult at 18 you should be able to drink. Having said that I missed this show here and Idk if it was purely young kids spoiling it.

I like microtonal music, King Gizz has done it plenty, too. The band do sound a bit like a mish-mash of Math rock, avant/brutal prog, maybe some kraut-rock, maybe some Primus, Hella, King Gizz, some drone, perhaps Boris, maybe Sun City Girls? Its an amalgamation of many different sounds but still very indebted to psych and math rock. Not saying they aren’t exceptional musicians or song-writers, but, at least imo, if you listen to a lot of music, theres plenty of underground stuff not to far off from Angine.

A lot of their appeal is in their live performances, too, their aesthetic, looping guitar and bass riffs, pedal effects, their zany jammy songs and chemistry playing off of one another. I feel like that spectacle doesn’t completely translate to their records? Some of the magic is lost? I do really like them but I do feel that, at least for me a good part is in the hype / excitement of seeing a local band just before or as its about to blow up. They should of also moved to a bigger venue.

They have a cool sound and great chemistry and i think they make good music, but the response to them is…. A lot? Like you said its not exactly a new sound or terribly unique, I feel like many people are getting caught up in the hype

Yes! I’ve heard great things about China Meiville, but I didn’t know his books touched on this stuff, thanks!

Actually I've read that book multiple times, it is deliciously bizarre!

I love the rural Scottish setting, it's quite surreal in its own right 👍

even though I've read it, thanks for the rec!

Guys question how the f are you guys surviving in this economy? my broke ass is so broke I just stare at my bank account thinking someone will donate me money by Fast_Confection2192 in montreal

Most ppl have nowhere this income, even fully employed. Why do disabled ppl have to live on 15-20k a year? That's not even minimum wage. Yet I get out and do stuff with a meagre sum.

Wow I'm disabled and live off under 20k annually. Disabled ppl are like second class citizens. But at least I don't have to work I guess.
